Cartoon Network Renews 11 Shows, Announces a Powerpuff Girls Reboot

A whole new generation of kids will soon be lucky enough to grow up with The Powerpuff Girls: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are about to return to Cartoon Network.

On Thursday, the network announced its agenda for the 2015–2016 TV season, revealing plans for a 2016 reboot of the Emmy-winning series about three young superheroes. The show originally ran from 1998 to 2005.

Cartoon Network also renewed 11 shows from its current lineup: Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Clarence, Regular Show, Teen Titans GO!, Uncle Grandpa, Steven Universe, Mixels, LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu, Pokémon the Series: XY, and Sonic Boom. Additionally, Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa will stage a special crossover episode, Regular Show will produce a movie-length special involving time travel and an evil volleyball coach, and Adventure Time will air a special multi-part miniseries.

Sadly, the network didn't say a word about the potential for a Samurai Jack reboot. But we can't win 'em all.

I honestly don't mind the reboot, for real, but what still bothers me was that Craig McCracken quit Cartoon Network because of CN Real (which finally ended). Genndy Tartakovsky also quit Cartoon Network because they left "Samurai Jack" and "Sym-Bionic Titan" completely unfinished. A reboot of "Samurai Jack" would've also been nice. I feel bad for these two animators because after 15 or 17 years of working for that channel, they suddenly quit for good reasons. But anyways, I cannot wait to see the reboot of one of the shows that made my childhood.

Surprised that Cartoon Network still exists, seeing that the ever popular Adult Swim has completely taken over prime time. I can't shake the feeling that one this might come true.

What are you talking about? Cartoon Network is more popular then ever, and is definitely more popular than Adult Swim. AS will never overshadow CN.

"AS will never overshadow CN"

Except apparently in the all important prime time hours.... CN is far from it's 90s heyday when it was all about classic Hanna Barbera toons and a few originals. Adult Swim brings in the audience and money now.

I don't mind the idea, as long as CN doesn't frak it up let alone drop the ball as they did with DC Nation, I still don't forgive them for it.

But I really love the fact that Steven Universe is getting another season, that show has been so good so far and due to it's evolving storyline I really feel there is a lot of potential for it to go further. Mainly I'm hoping we'll see a slightly darker direction and Steven finally getting to kick some butt, use his shield more like Captain America.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls, but Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction.... CHEMICAL X!! Thus, The Powerpuff Girls were born. Using their ultra superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, have dedicated their lives to fighting crime, and the forces... OF EVIL!! -epic drums here-

Are they going with that new animation style they teased us with a couple months ago? I'm not sure I was a fan of that.

I like the classic style; simple but fun.

And yet, they couldn't convince the idiots at Warner/DC to continue Young Justice. This gives me a huge sad.

As much as it pains me to say it, I have to say "Good"

Cartoon Network for some reason keeps screwing around with the DC cartoons; vanishing them from the schedule, airing the new episodes at 3AM, etc.

As much as I loved Young Justice and Green Lantern, it's probably for the best that Cartoon Network just stop it.

I liked Powerpuff Girls way back when, but I don't like how shows these days get changed stylistically like Teen Titans was good, but I hate the way TT Go looks.. so I don't think I'll bother watching any reboots.. which won't be hard because I don't watch anything on CN anyway lol

I hope the Powerpuff Girls reboot goes better than the lame reboot of Xiolin Showdown, renamed Xiolin Chronicles on Disney XD. It basically threw out everything that was good about Showdown, renamed everything, unnecessarily added Ping, completely misunderstood everyone's personalities and motivations and added very lame CGI showdowns. What made all of this even worse was Chronicles was created by the same person who created Showdown. It was like watching the Star Wars Episodes 1-3 after revering episodes 4-6 all the while wondering what happened to George Lucus.

Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand I am delighted as I loved the Powerpuff girls and am excited at the thought of more new episodes. On the other hand - 'reboot' suggests changes and the person who did the voices died recently....

Not sure what you mean by that. All three voice actresses for the Puffs are still alive.

I think they confused EG Daily (Tommy Pickles, Buttercup) with Christine Cavanaugh (Chuckie Finster, Dexter) who did recently pass.

Oops my bad. I thought Christine did some of the voices on the Powerpuff girls as well.
