Cast updates: Starbuck to Nip/Tuck

One of the more in-demand television actresses in Hollywood is Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, who plays the tomboyish Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the Sci Fi Channel hit. The future seems pretty bright for Sackhoff, and she should have her pick of roles when she's wrapped Battlestar.

Before moving on to her next major gig (the whole Bionic Woman thing didn't work out too well, did it?), Sackhoff will do a short run on the sixth season of Nip/Tuck as a guest star, says The Hollywood Reporter. Sackhoff will play Dr. Teddy Love, who goes head-to-head with Dr. Sean McNamara.

Former Melrose Place resident and Women's Murder Club member Rob Estes is moving on up. He'll play 90210's father figure Harry Mills when the show premieres this fall on the CW.

There's another exodus from Smallville, but this one seems to be on the producers and not the actor. Kara, better known as Supergirl, will be flying out of the action during next season, says TVGuide.com.

"[The CW] announced the cast... and I'm not a part of it," Vandervoort told the Web site. "We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular, but I'm sure I'll be back for one or two [episodes]!"

Somewhat lost among the busy week of upfronts last week was a couple of big names joining television shows. Movie veteran Eric Stoltz has signed on to join Caprica as Dr. Daniel Graystone, one of the pivotal characters in the show. Michael Rapaport, a recurring character in My Name is Earl, is headed to prison. The actor will join Fox's Prison Break as a government agent.

It's about time--CSI's cast is getting bigger. After losing a few regulars, the forensics show will be adding Lauren Lee Smith to its list of actors. Smith, who previously starred in The L Word and the pilot Can Openers, is expected to replace the departure of Jorja Fox.

Finally, in pilot news, Kelly Preston has been cast in HBO's Suburban Shootout, Adam Goldberg will be in ABC's The Unusuals, and Michael Landes is joining Fox's Courtroom K, says The Hollywood Reporter. And for all you Human Giant fans, funnyman Aziz Ansari (read our Q&A with him) is taking up residency on Scrubs, along with Betsy Beutler and Eliza Coupe. The trio will play recurring interns.

And that's a wrap. Any of these casting decisions look good to you? Sackhoff on Nip/Tuck certainly is surprising, but Stoltz on Caprica as Graystone versus Esai Morales' Adama sounds like the winner here.

My anesthised skull is awaiting the results of Nip Tuck's eerie climax in last season What will happen to whacko Colleen? Where did Christian
and the nurse go to? Everything went completely
silent while Sean was talking to Liz then BAM!!!
did he ever get hit... and laying there like
that, choking on his blood while daughter Annie
was under the gas Did Colleen attack the other
two It leaves me with that "Psycho" feeling
and Norman Bates dual facade Sharon Gless did
a top job on that role and so at the other
end of her spectrum Hats off to her for putting
a jolt into an already grabbing situation drama

What about the possessive Eden and her deathly
deeds Will they go unpunished? I hope both
of those offbeat characters return That last
scene sure left me thinking...and thinking

Nip/Tuck is such an amazing and well written drama and now that Katee Sackhoff will be on it, I'm even more excited for the upcoming season!!! Also, since Sean McNamara is my favorite character it's going to be an added bonus that it seems they will be in many scenes together and possibly have a love thing going on?!?!?

Although people bemoan the fact a BG regular is joining a style-over-content show it does need to be pointed out Nip/Tuck is a highly rated style-over-content show. Trash TV, however tasteless, will always have its place as the well of viewers who demand viewable excretia will never dry up. What Nip/Tuck attempts over shows such as Gossip Girl and on par with Disperate Fishwives is attempt irony to fool us into thinking we are watching something worthwhile. Which of course we aren't but most can kid themselves otherwise.

I have to say Katee is one of the most energetic young women on TV - destined for bigger and better things. A wonderful actress, no doubt about it! HEr first character role in movies should really open the field up for her... Good luck!

I'll watch Katee Sackhoff in almost anything because she's awesome, but I do hope she gets her own show soon... she can do better than Nip/Tuck, not that I won't enjoy watching her on it. ;) It's unfortunate that Vandervoort's Smallville character was not integrated properly into the show in season 7... there was a lot of potential for something great there, but Kara spent most of her time off screen so what was the fraking point!?

Lauren Smith!! I loved her on Mutant X and The L Word. She should be a great addition to the cast. They have been in desperate need of fresh talent. Is Women's Murder Club dead?

Wow. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole no Supergirl/Laura Vandervoort thing on Smallville. On the one hand, she was one of the things that sucked the least this season, and on the other hand, about half way through the season, I think the writing staff just gave up on her character and couldn't figure out what they were doing with her. I mean, next season WOULD be better with her, but not if they don't have a decent storyline.
As for Eric Stoltz and Michael Rapaport on Caprica and Prison Break, I'm very excited. And finally, after the exit of Gary Dourdan on CSI, I had decided I was done watching that show, but now with Lauren Lee Smith... I'm at least gonna give it another shot.

I like Laura Vandervoort (being HOT helped :P), but she took a lot of attention away from Clark (the star of the show). I look forward to seeing Michael Rapaport on Prison Break, I loved him on The War At Home and his recurring role on Friends.

why does it say she didnt work out in the bionic woman? did she leave BSG thinking it would be a better gig for her?

Good to see Starbuck with nice career oportunities. My best wishes after her role on BSG. Also good to hear news now and then about Caprica and its development. Sad to see Laura Vandervoort of Smallville but if you think about it it makes sense. In the Superman storyline she didnt appear till years later than the big blue and red superhero took the mantle. He will rescue her someday from the phantom zone.

I enjoyed the first two seasons of Nip/Tuck. It was my guilty pleasure. The show went down during the third season and I HATED the fourth season. The fifth season was okay I guess. I like Katee so this is a plus.
