Castle's Fate Is Up in the Air; Do You Want the Show to Be Renewed for Season 8?

Forget about murder—there's a much bigger mystery to be solved on Castle. Although the long-running ABC procedural still has legions of fans, the series has yet to be renewed for an eighth season, due at least in part to the fact that its stars, Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, haven't signed new contracts to continue.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the decision may come down to the wire. "It's been weird. The last five months have been limbo," says cast member Seamus Dever, whose contract is also up. "I don't know [what's] going to happen, and, to be honest, no one has talked to me ... about next season. I'd like to have some answers because my family wants to know if I'm going to be employed. But right now it's really up in the air."

Naturally, that uncertainty makes planning the remainder of the season a bit tricky for the show's writers. Even so, executive producer David Amann says he's trying to avoid the distraction. "We're hopeful that everything gets resolved," he says. "We have thought about a bunch of different scenarios, but our main obligation is just to our audience and [to deliver] great shows. We're just building the best end of the season that we can."

Perhaps surprisingly, considering the situation, it sounds like the end of Castle's current season will involve some uncertainty rather than all-out closure. "I think we are headed toward to some sort of cliffhanger. We go back into the Beckett mythology and that might play strongly in the end," Dever teases, noting that the choice has left him hopeful that the show will live to see Season 8. "From what I'm hearing, [the delayed renewal] is not from lack of want at the network level. They're very happy with the success of our show; it's just about getting everybody back to the table."

Do you want another season of Castle?

Absolutely! Beckett and Castle have to come back and absolutely all the original people! Please don't ruin this show like they did NCIS ,when ZIVA LEFT!! I absolutely love this show and want to see Beckett and Castle babies. And Esposito and Laney, Ryan and his family need a brother for Sarah Grace....Come on FOLKS!

Of course I want it back, but not withoutall the actors involved. Without the boys, Beckett or Castle I'd rather it end.

I used to be obsessed with Castle, but since Caskette got married the show has lost a lot of tension. We see less of the Charming Martha and adorable Alexis which is a shame really love the whole family (ex-Wives not included). In terms of story, they've encountered all manner of weird, wacky, wonderful, close-calls, conspiracies, creeps etc... They've also wrapped up numerous loose threads and so the show is now well positioned to take a graceful bow. Hope it gets the conclusion that the fans deserve.

Yes indeed, I really want Castle to continue for as many seasons as possible, there are still many different story lines they could try writing for the series.

For me, 7th season has not been that entertaining (comparing with the previous ones). I loved the 4th and the 5th seasons, rest were also good. I don't mind another season as long as they get that charm back. I miss those Castle - Alexis , Castle - Martha moments at the end after the case is solved.

Sometimes the family interactions indirectly led to Castle solving the crime. Love Martha and Alexis.

Shows with much lower ratings has run for seasons after seasons with ratings lower than this. How I Met Your Mother for instance had less than Castle for 2.5 seasons. Family Guy. The Simpsons only had 38% of the viewers castle have had the latest episodes. I think the time Castle airs makes a huge impact on the number of viewers.
And to be fair. For instance Once Upon A Time also has less ratings than Castle and that means they should cancel that too(Not saying I think they should but it just makes sense).

Yes, yes, and yes. Though I do not watch very much TV, Castle is one of the few that I do watch faithfully. Please, Please Please, whoever is holding this up, be it Stana or Nathan, PLEASE, come back for season 8.

yes yes and yes again not renewing Castle would be unjustified and a huge tragic loss to the world of tv and my world. I love Castle and watch it with my fiancée every week. We even have Castle day. Only been a fan since last year as was a huge Bones fan instead. How valuable a lesson I have been taught since finding Castle. The best show on any network. Season 8 is a must, seasons 9 and 10 are my aim.

Can seriously go on for 3 more seasons in my book! I count maybe 1-2 so so episodes i didn't fully enjoy in 6 years (7 seasons), that's saying a lot!

I do wish Castle was a PI a little bit longer, those epis were so refreshing!

Yes! I love these guys. I enjoyed the most recent episode where they gave Seamus Dever, who plays Kevin Ryan, whom I had to just now look up, because I only know him as Ryan and I had no idea of his real name, omg sorry about that Seamus. Anyway, he was very good with a bigger role in that episode. They should branch it out a bit more and let the other characters have more story. But I still love the show.

I used to love this show. It was sharp and quick witted and didn't take itself too seriously. The show jumped the shark with Castle's wedding day kidnapping and the non- resolution they couldn't even be bothered to write. It has been weak for a while but that was the final bullet for me. Finish with a good finale for fans and move on.

I really liked Castle the first couple of years. The writing was so clever and in many ways original. The writing "talent" has "left the building." Last night's show was painful to watch. I would prefer they put an end to it.

I'd imagine the show is as important to the network as grandma's diabetes medication but its handlers (read Fillion and Katic) aren't happy with the same old cat food and want more. It's always the same, the network doesn't want to pay more and expects to keep the actors in the same old role ad infinitum. Actors tire, get more money and then are rejuvenated and keen to restart!

While if they make an 8 I will keep watching, if they end 7 on a good note, no cliffhanger, I will be okay with that. They just need to decide.

I think a shortened Final Season to close out the 3XK storyline unless the last episode resolves that one is the way i would like it to end out

Here's the problem, the show lost any sense of freshness a few years ago, and a wedding didn't save it along with a number of soap opera gimmicks. There have been a couple twists and experiments - a time traveler, a dimension hopping - which suggest there's still something to be tried here, but by and large it's the same rhythms week after week. With heavier paychecks comes less resources for storytelling, so if season 7 goes out without a cliffhanger I say it's ok to walk away.

I just want them to end it on their own terms, writing-wise. This is one show that hasn't dropped a bunch in quality with time, but of course it happens to every show at some point. Always better to go out on a high note. I think one more season, that they know from the beginning will be the last, would be my favorite option.

Castle is one of my favourite shows to watch. It's still funny and there just aren't many shows that are fun. I just love the banter the cast have with each other, even now. Although I understand that many of the actors would probably want to do something new soon, please give us one more season to wrap things up and I will be happy. However, if this is the last season, I would like to say, "Good luck to Nathan Fillion and all who have worked on the show. It has been great fun!"

I've always loved Fillion, but I came to love the ensemble cast of this show as well; however, saying that, I feel like there isn't much life left in the show.

It doesn't help matters when each season only touches upon the over-arching storyline for like 2-3, out of 20-whatever, episodes. That gets frustrating... even if the case-of-the-week episodes are somewhat enjoyable.

I don't think I'm breaking new ground if I say that the show is still going strong but that it's past its prime.

So while I would keep watching an 8th season, I wouldn't brokenhearted if it ended here. I'll go one step further and say that unresolved plot lines don't bother me either.

It would free Nathan Fillion for other projects (and I've been dying to see what else he will do!) but I'm not so optimistic about the rest of the cast...

The thing is, what other projects are there for him, he's not getting any younger (but he is getting fatter ^^). What other project were there before? Apart from Firefly, I have never heard of him being anywhere before Castle came along. He should be thanking his lucky stars that he has a steady job

He can still be funny, no matter his size/age. I just want to see him to a bunch more ridiculous projects with Joss Whedon. :)

Hahaha! he is getting fatter, isn't he? Still, I am interested to see what will follow. He has become something of a cult actor (thank Whedon), he's able to pull off both comedic and dramatic roles and from what I read he gets many voice roles. I'm not holding my breath for an Oscar, but I don't think he'll go hungry. Again, I'm not so sure about the rest of Castle's cast. Cheers.

The only other things I have seen him to is his role in the second Percy Jackson movie and his cameo in a Big Bang Theory episode as himself. And I think he had a voice acting role in Guardians of the Galaxy but I might have misheard

I love Castle. It's light and romantic and funny and has great action and a great cast. But as long as they wrap it up, I'm ok if this is the last season. Not that I don't want more Castle. Hey, keep it coming if you can. But if they can't, then I'm ok with that, knowing that this show has had a good run

If we can have both Agent 33 on Agents of SHIELD and Tory on Castle, then I'm OK with another season to wrap things up. :-)

Seriously, the case-of-the-week is still entertaining and draws in the viewers. The couple/spouse aspect is even still fun. The writers did mess up with the whole abduction and wedding thing, but overall the series still works. I don't want it to drag on forever, though.

Nathan might be good also in Arrow and mean that if he would get physique back to where it was before starting to chubby up during Castle. Thanks to all that lazy writer role casting that includes ham, wine and more ham i guess :P Y he's 10x y older than in Serenity, but he can dooo it and get back to Malcolm Reynolds shape :P

I vote for Castle to go on for at least 10 seasons. He and Beckett have a unique chemistry and the rest of the cast are wonderful! The directors need to have some new story lines, maybe some from "his" books, maybe some from true life mystery murders. Quit going to the farout stuff that other networks are going into - they're so unrealistic.

If their going to have a season 8, I'd want it to be the last season. Don't get me wrong I do love the show but just as Castle knew it was high time to put an end to his Derek Storm series, it's the same case with this show. And if their going to have a final episode, they better make it count.

Lets just hope that Castle and co get a renewal because we still haven't seen all of Beckett's past and we haven't even scratched the surface of were Castle has been for the past 2 months. I reckon it has something to do with his childhood and the event he witnessed that made him into the mystery writer he is today.

I'll like the show a lot but all good things must come to an end as the prophet said to Néo :).
I watch to much TV and it is already season 7 so if it's end properly I won't be upset, a bit sad I'll miss it but will be OK.
Of course if a season 8 follows I'll watch it with pleasure as long as it stay good. But I'm afraid that they will miss good idea, they will go in a routine, and it is better to quit as they are on their best.
But they still have the disappearance of Castle to solve and need a proper ending so it will be short to do that with the episode remaining.

Agree zsandmann for Dr.Horrible 2 and espesially for Space Piracy =) Though for Space Piracy continuation he needs to improve physical appearance and espesially if going to be same amazing badass Malcolm Reynolds. Y he's 13y older or lets say 10x since Serenity came out and he was in good shape when that happened.

He's tall and has mass, but just to get that body to more fit and Malcolm is back =) Malcolm's outfit that he had in one Halloween episode did still look good on him :P Nathan has that kickstarter comedy show on the works with great Alan Tudyk & i'm supporting it :) Hopefully Netflix for ex.revives Firefly =)
