Catherine McClements ready to Tangle

Catherine McClements stars in the
upcoming drama series, Tangle.

After playing a no-fuss sergeant in TEN's much-lauded new drama, Rush, Catherine McClements is filming the upcoming new drama Tangle for the Showcase Channel.

Tangle is a contemporary drama dealing with the interwoven lives of parents and their teenagers. Produced by the same team as Love My Way and Secret Life of Us, it also features Justine Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, Matt Day and Kat Stewart.

McClements plays Christine, the wife of a cabinet minister Tim (Joel Toebeck) who had an illicit affair with a drug-loving wild child Nat (Kat Stewart), which spawned a child eventually raised by Christine and Tim. But Nat walks back into their lives 15 years later, wreaking havoc on everyone's emotional landscape.

The role in Tangle gives McClements new territory to forge than that of her tough-talking character in Rush, Kerry Vincent.

"In a funny sort of way I find Kerry Vincent the most vulnerable creature you could get and that's why she's got such a thick skin. She's got this crush on Rodger Corser's character (Lawson) which she can't express. And why would he be interested in her, 'she's nothing'. It's that sort of vulnerability that she has.

"She has got this unhappy and lonely world inside that she puts on all this armour. It's an inability to cope.

"Whereas (Tangle's) Christine is a stronger character in a funny sort of way. Because she's able to reveal her vulnerability and let it out on the table, and say 'oh my god, I'm feeling this'."

Tangle will screen in 2009 as will a second season of Rush on TEN.

"A second series of something is always really good, that's when things start to fire. People feel more confident, they understand their characters. The writers have seen the show they know what they're working with."
