It's pilot season for networks, and CBS certainly wasn't slacking late last week. The network gave pilot orders for five projects on Friday--three dramas and two comedies. And in an unexpected turn for CBS, not one of the shows is a police procedural or has an acronym for a name.
Jerry Bruckheimer is reteaming with the network once again for the medical drama Miami Trauma, according to Variety. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what it's about: a team of trauma doctors in the Miami area helping the badly injured get back on their feet.
CBS is attacking the medical genre--a genre that has eluded the network--hard with a second entry in the field, Three Rivers. The drama follows organ transplants from the perspective of all those involved, the donor, the doctor, and the recipient. Former Jericho showrunner Carol Barbee will write and executive produce. No word on whether it is based in Pittsburgh, as the name suggests.
The final drama set forth to pilot-ville is The Good Wife, about a politician's wife who forges her own identity by becoming a defense attorney.
On the lighter side, Waiting to Die is described as a buddy comedy about a pair of totally chillaxed friends. Arrested Development's Mitch Hurwitz will produce, marking the trillionth (or thereabouts) pilot he has going into production this season.
Finally, Accidentally on Purpose is based on San Francisco movie critic Mary F. Pols' autobiography about her experience of having a fling with a younger man and accidentally getting pregnant.
These all sound pretty 'meh' to me... your thoughts?

Looks like I'll have a lot of free time this fall. No "appointment" shows, here.
Sounds like they will all SUCK
Just what the airwaves need, more medical shows. In all actuality, none of these shows appeal to me.
Will people please let Jericho go. The show didn't do well in ratings and they're not going to keep a show on the air for six fans. It's stupid. Anyway, none of these are smart moves imo. Jerry has had a lot of success with CBS and his dramas, I have a feeling this medical drama is going to be his first downfall with them.
None of these sound intresting.
Jerrys shows are all hits
I won't be watching any of those!
This shows don't sound as good as Jericho. I don't think I'll watch any of them.
Another doctor drama? Please! CBS can do whatever they want as soon as they don't cancel Eleventh Hour. CSI is still strong and those are the only shows I watch from this network.
They bring these shows on, but they still cancelled Jericho?
Nothing sounds interesting from CBS these days.
nothing sounds interesting really :/
so you're saying no NCIS spin-off?
Sounds like the same old.
Do we really need any more hospital shows. I know ER is finishing but even so there are so many out there. The comedies don't sound great either. CBS already has a good comedy line up, maybe they should put a bit more into what they have already got.
All sounds boring. I want an action/supernatural/sc-fi show!
The Good Wife sounds like the pilot with the most promise (and that's contingent on the execution), but none of these pilots sound particularly interesting.
Miami Trauma sounds OK, despite no doubt being a way to replace ER. The Good Wife is also sounding good. Maybe Accidentally on Purpose also? The other two are meh.
meh
Jericho was terrible, let it go.
It feels like freaking Groundhog Day reading about these pilots. Would it kill CBS to have an original idea? Oh yeah, they did - Jericho - then killed it off.
While a couple of them sound like it might be something to watch, I think that I am going to wait to hear more about them before I actually decide.
Blah. I can honestly say there isnt a single thing here that made me say "huh, thats kinda interesting, perhaps we have a look-see?".Maybe Im wrong, but to me, they all just sound like a variation of things that have been done before.Fail!Soz CBS, the thinking caps need to go back on. Rapido.
