CBS Anchor Walter Cronkite Dies at 92

And that's the way it is.

Walter Cronkite, beloved broadcaster and anchor of the CBS Evening News, died of cerebrovascular disease on Friday, July 17. He was 92.

Known for his steady delivery and iconic sign-off -- "That's the way it is" -- Cronkite transformed broadcasting during one of the most volatile periods of civil unrest in American history.

He reported for CBS for 19 years, from 1962 to 1981. In that time, he helped redefine television journalism. During his tenure, Cronkite covered the Vietnam War, broke the news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination, and reported on President Richard Nixon's impeachment.

CBS News has posted an extensive obituary on Cronkite's life and career, noting: As Cronkite said on March 6, 1981, concluding his final broadcast as anchorman: "Old anchormen, you see, don't fade away, they just keep coming back for more. And that's the way it is."

Cronkite will always be remembered as a legendary TV journalist. And that's the way it is.

He was the one man that the majority of the nation trusted to tell us the truth in his eyes. He has been missed since retirement and will be missed as long as those of us, who for so long depended on his reporting, remember that "that's the way it was."

He was a left wing radical and lied to the country when he said the tet offensive failed. We had the vc beat but he wanted to promote his left wing agenda.

When he retired, that was a sad day, now it's even a sadder day. I remember when he reported on Pres.Kennedy's death he could hardly speak, but he carried on. He was truly a trusted man when he talked everyone listened. My condolences to his family. He will always be remembered.RIP Mr. Cronkite

From Murrow to Kuralt, Cronkite had em' all beat!! Thanks for all that you did to impact the world of honest non-opinionated reporting. Should be referred to as "OG Walter Cronkite" for those to young to appreciate his selfless efforts to cover the news in all its form. After him there the never be another.

He was the greatest and most honorable journalist from a time when journalism was a serious business. His kind will not be seen again. Instead of Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow and Peter Jennings, we're now stuck with the self-serving ramblings of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta van Susteren.

I must say that Walter Cronkite was a gentleman. Most Journalists today should adhere to his principals. Not the "blatent jerks" that they have on TV today. He saw things in truth. He never biased himself. He will be sorely missed amongst the "jerks" we now have adhering to the "moment". The man spoke his mind. He was trusted in his outlook towards Politics, War, and the BS that is happening in our Government today. He will be sorely missed. I grew up during the "Vietnam Conflict" where the Democrats made alot of money off that so called "Conflict". I really wonder what he would think about what's happening now with the nonsense that's happening within our government.
