Former Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus will play the title role in Old Christine, a new comedy series at CBS. The network has picked up 13 episodes of the show for a midseason run.
Old Christine is about a newly divorced woman adjusting to her new role as a single mom. Her ex-husband, played by Clark Gregg, has moved on with his life: by dating a woman who's also named Christine.
Louis-Dreyfus received seven Emmy nominations during Seinfeld's nine-year run for playing Elaine Benes, and in 1996 she took home the award for best supporting actress in a comedy. She also starred in and was the executive producer on NBC's Watching Ellie, a sitcom that was canceled in 2003 after just 19 episodes.
Louis-Dreyfus is not the only Seinfeld star to fail in an attempt to bring a little magic from the popular show to other projects. Jason Alexander ("George Constanza") and Michael Richards ("Cosmo Kramer") met similar fates, sparking discussion of a Seinfeld curse.
