CBS Announces Its Fall 2013 Premiere Dates, Crams 'Em All In to One Week (Almost)

The official start of summer is less than a week away, but CBS is already over it! The network became the first major broadcaster to announce its fall premiere dates today, unsurprisingly choosing the third week of September to launch the bulk of its shows. In fact, all of CBS's fall shows, with the exception of Survivor, will launch almost within a week of each other starting on Monday, September 23. New series We Are Men wraps up CBS's premiere-week-and-a-day on Monday, September 30.

This is counter to what other networks have done in recent years. In 2012, NBC, Fox, ABC, and The CW all let their premieres trickle well into October, probably to avoid the condensed mad rush of new shows and returning favorites. As the market leader, CBS (which led all networks in ratings and total viewers in the 2012-2013 season) apparently feels brave enough to stick to tradition and let the other networks scramble up their schedules.

The only shows getting special premiere treatment are Survivor, which launches a week early (on September 18) with a 90-minute episode, and How I Met Your Mother, which kicks off its final season with a one-hour episode. The hour-long HIMYM debut is what's bumping the premiere of We Are Men back a week. Everything else is as straightforward as can be. And just for the heck of it, CBS has announced that midseason series Intelligence will debut on February 24 after Hostages ends its run.

The third week of September does tend to be when the new season starts so it's not much of a surprise. One could pretty much guess the start dates.

I wish Person of Interest's season premier was a week earlier. Grand Theft Auto 5 + Person of Interest on the same day? That would be the best day ever!

But either way, I can't wait for more PoI!

It's spelled "premiere."

That's probably my bad. I've been known to spell it that way and HH may have subconsciously picked up on it. But anyway, spelling Nazi much?

I wish they would have a "shoot in kneecap" option on GTA 5. I'd have a whole damn city limping.

Maybe they could have a John Reese DLC. :P

That would be so awesome! But they need to include a Belgian Shepherd Dog in the download!

Yeah, I did see it, and I have to agree. It looks like a very good take on the whole open-world GTA style game, and I really like the strategic stealth elements they showed off. The open world aspects look very nicely done as well.

I'm not exactly sure when I'll get the game (maybe for Christmas), but I'm very excited to play it. GTA style games can be great, but so many many of them tend to be copycat games with just a slightly different take on the genre. Watch dogs looks like a whole different beast all together from what I've seen, adding in its own innovations, which is a big part of why I'm so excited for it.

It makes me so sad that this will most likely never happen. We need to get into the gaming business, HH!

(P.S. Watch Dogs looks like the greatest game ever created. Did you see the recent gameplay video for it at E3? I have never in my life seen such an intricate open world.)

Or better yet, have Rockstar release a PoI game. It can use a similar 3 character idea as GTA5 (Reese, Shaw, and... Fusco? Carter? Either one would do). Of course, like you said, they'd have to include Bear in it somehow, preferably as a partner in certain missions.

If that were to happen, I'd be like "Watch Dogs who?" Even though I am very interested in that game as well.

I really hate when the fall season has started and my favorite shows may not come on sometimes until November, Kudos to CBS I want my Elementary, Person of Intersest and Big Bang Theory ASAP

This is a great idea, I feel like CBS just pimps slapped all the other stations and then gave them the finger!!!!

CBS is clearly waiting until one of the new sitcoms eats it before putting Mike & Molly into its place, and that's likely "We Are Men" or "The Millers". Anyway, it's not a bad idea to make an event out of your new programming, I suppose.

THE ONLY DATE I CARE ABOUT: Tuesday, Sept. 24, 10-11pm.

I think airing on Tuesdays with a later showtime will suit POI well. As we all know, Tuesday is the most dramatic and thrilling day of the week (always trying to one-up Wednesday), and the later showtime can only mean a darker turn for Bear and the gang (yes, I consider Bear to be the leader of the group), 'cause, you know, it's literally darker outside, so naturally the storytelling will be darker, too. That's like TV 101.

Betting lines:
- I put the over/under on Reese's kneecapping for this season at 100.
- Samantha Shaw becoming a full-fledged member of Bear's team is at 1/3.
- The Machine killing everyone Skynet-style is at 1/100. (Not a smart bet IMHO.)
- Root being sexy as hell at some point - Guaran-freaking-teed.

Oh, and can we all agree here and now that The Machine makes NSA's Prism look like a toaster oven?

Are you considering changing your name to POIFanatic, because this show somehow got a whole lot more interesting, and it was already great...

FringeFanatic 'til I die, man. But if any other show deserved a Fanatic, it's POI.

For me Fringe is the best thing that ever happened to TV, EVER! I'm on season three of my second run through and it's so much better the second time because I see things so much more clearly. POI is so awesome that it's in the same class and It's so nice to have it to look forward to for years to come. When I saw the empty warehouse I knew immediately that the machine moved itself and it was incredible to behold--my mind raced through how it was accomplished and I just smiled. The overall plot is so intricate and perfect, and so is the cast. Fringe will always be Fringe, but POI is just as good--even better now because it's not done yet...

PoI definitely eases the pain from Fringe being off the air (as much as I'd love to still have both). Great, complex mythology, surprisingly good (most of the time) stand-alone stories, fun characters with plenty of depth that you can't help get drawn to, and just a whole lot of fun. I dread the day we'll inevitably have to say goodbye to the show (hopefully not for a while), and hope that we'll be as lucky to have a great replacement for it as we are now that PoI has replaced Fringe.
