CBS details new schedule, Jericho return

tv_StrikeSource2.jpg

As the Writers Guild of America strike continues, networks are preparing for a long winter of television without the usual flow of new programming. The latest to release an updated schedule for the early portion of 2008 is CBS, and it will see an influx of game shows and its stable of well-received reality shows, as well as the return of a favorite.

First, the big news for Jericho fans: The drama will return to the air on Tuesdays beginning February 12 at 10 p.m. The show's first season ran on Wednesdays, and after its famous, storybook lifesaving was partially rerun on Fridays. Now on Tuesdays, Jericho will follow one of three (yes, three) weekly installments of the domestic experiment Big Brother.

After several seasons of being made during the hot summer nights, the reality show will make its first winter showing in mid-February. The show will also air on Wednesdays and Sundays. Fellow reality hit Survivor will premiere its 16th edition on Thursday, February 7 at 8 p.m. Details on the upcoming season have not yet been announced.

More unscripted fare will be coming with the return of Power of 10 on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. beginning January 2. The game show is hosted by Drew Carey and asks contestants to correctly predict trends among Americans.

But it isn't all reality for CBS. In addition to Jericho, CBS will also debut the new season of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' The New Adventures of Old Christine (Mondays beginning January 28 at 9:30 p.m.) and the series premiere of The Captain (8:30 p.m. that same night). The new comedy stars Fran Kranz, Chris Klein, Jeffrey Tambor, and Raquel Welch as a group of people who live in the same apartment building in Hollywood.

In addition to these changes, CBS will be stacked with reruns of some of its staples, such as Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, and its trio of CSI shows. CBS did also say it would also continue to air its Friday slate of Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight, and Numb3rs but did not include Friday in its latest chart (hence they're not on the chart below...it's assumed that they will remain as is).

Another new game show called Do You Trust Me? has also completed production but has not yet been scheduled.

The following is CBS' revamped schedule for January and February 2008:

I don't know what you're talking about, Criminal Minds returns on Wednesday Jan. 9th!! I can't wait that long, and i'm so glad jericho is coming back, i've waited too long for the second season with the cancellation, and then the protest of cancelling it. I wish the writer strike ends soon!!

I'm glad Jericho is back, but I'll miss Gerald McRaney's character. It's back because it is less expensive to produce than other shows. Keep in mind, it'll have to make viewers change channels away from whatever Fox has on AFTER AMERICAN IDOL... (sound of ominous musical note..)

I am happy for all the Jericho fans getting their show back. I am also kind of put out about there not being any Friday on the schedule that is posted above. I can only hope that they are satisfied with how Friday is, as stated above.

I'm standing among those who commented before me about Moonlight. I will not be fully satisfied until I know I'm getting a full season.

Hope they don't rebuild the town too well. I like Jake when he's dirty...

wheeeee Jericho. It's been so quiet I was a little afraid they were only mollifying us saying it would be back and then not doing it.

But I'm with Togano.......I'm still pi**ed with CBS and that won't stop until I know for sure that they are committed to Moonlight!

I cannot believe they almost canceled Jericho, especially with such an intense ending for season 1. Finally we'll get to see how it all turns out, thank you CBS for giving this show another chance! February won't get here soon enough now.

I guess there are not many good things about the writers strike, lots of reality shows and poor quality series... which surely will make Jericho stand up among all them, practically guaranteeing a third season.

So there's at least one good news.

I wonder what Jericho's new time slot will be against. If CBS's schedule for January and February is an indicator of what the other networks will be showing, Jericho will be top dog!

GOO JERICHO!

I only care about CSI and Moonlight. until I hear CBS has ordered a full season of Moonlight, I'm going to remain pissed at them.

I think the Big Bang is coming back. It ran out of episodes and I think it might just be a half season show. Not sure about that.

Looking good.
I guess the Big Bang Theory didn't make a Big Bang.
Has it been canceled or just in mid season slumber?

Stop complaining about the slot! It would be way worse if they did put it in it's old slot. There is a reason it got average ratings. It was competing with Idol and a few other hit shows that weren't just starting out. I'm glad that it's in this time slot it will barely be competing with good shows

One thing I'm really excited about: Jericho returns.

One thing I don't mind: the time slot for Jericho.

One thing I don't even care about: "the strike".

Glad to see Jericho back.... sucks that we are subjected to so much 'reality tv' with the writers strike. Even more reason to not watch tv

Glad to see Jericho back. A little late time wise but I can stay up for it :)

The time SUCKS! Why not put the Power of 10 there and Jericho back in it's rightful position!!!!

Although I'm incredibly glad to have Jericho coming back, what a terrible time!!! We have to be up at 4 so we're usually in bed by 9. Our VCR is going to be busy (we're old-fashioned).
