Here's a winning strategy: make a procedural cop show, give it an acronym title, and brand the heck out of it! That certainly worked for CBS' CSI, and the network is thinking about doing the same thing to NCIS.
According to EW.com, CBS is "quietly" working on a spin-off of NCIS with the hopes that there is still room for yet another crime procedural on the network. Why NCIS? The show, currently in its sixth season, has been kicking some serious tail in the ratings department this year, recently pulling in more than 18 million viewers.
According to a chatty source, NCIS will add some more Navy internal-affairs-type people to an upcoming episode, and then set them off to start their own show, possibly next fall. Everything else dealing with the show is still up in the air.
CBS was previously reported to be developing a spin-off of Criminal Minds, but no further news has come to light about that possible move.
NCIS, CSI, CBS...WTF?

i think gibbs is really hot for hes age i think he is really sexyy i love them ...NCIS...
i think that having another NCIS is just great. as long as they still make the origional NCIS. then im just fine. ncis is my FAVORITE show. and leroy jethro gibbs is my hero. haha. but mark harmon is AMAZING! and the cast just blends together amazingly. hahahaha.
YOU CAN NOT HAVE ANOTHER NCIS. IF YOU DO THEN YOU RUIN THE FIRST ONE. MOVE IT TO A BETTER TIME SLOT AND GIVE ONE ON THE MAJOR CHANNELS A CHANCE WITH IT. BUT THE THING THAT MAKES IT THE BEST ARE YOUR CHARACTERS. DO NOT GIVE ANY AWAY FOR ANOTHER STORY, YOU WOULD REALLY MISS UP A GOOD THING. THE ENTER ACTION AMONG THE ENTIRE CAST IS WHAT MAKES THE STORIES SO GOOD, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. I RATE IT A PERFECT 10 CAROL SPEIZMAN
I like this show very much, but why, oh why does the background music have to be so loud? I can understand artistic licence, but noise, it can't be called music, when the dialogue plot is being voiced?
Absolutely NOT. This show is perfect as it is. No changes necessary. Absolutely no change in cast or movement in cast. An extremely bad idea. The network should thrilled with the success of NCIS, keep backing it and focus on other shows it may want to start. But let NCIS bask in its glow.
The beginning of the end... ;)) And like someone already said, funny thing spinning off a spin off ;)) This show is literally perfect as it is, hope they at least don't disrupt it in any way.
Please keep the original cast intact. It won't be NCIS without Gibbs DiNozzo Ziva Abby McGee and Ducky. I'm fairly new to the show and I love it just the way it is. I am officially addicted to it, don't change it!
Not a very good idea - great things usually come once, and people should accept that. No one can really pull off the charm this group of people in NCIS created years back, so why ruin the effect? People LOVE this show because it's definitely one of a kind, very unique. Duplicating would reduce interest in both shows... so please, whatever you do, make sure you think at least a 100 times before doing it!
A really bad idea. The reason why I love NCIS so much is that there's no other show that's quite like it. Sure you have your crime procedural shows but where will you find one just like NCIS?? And its not fair on the spin-off as it will be forever compared and maybe found lacking to the original. Look at what happened with CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY. And then you have STARGATE SG1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS. And GREYS ANATOMY and the other show that hardly gets talked about. Yeah, not a good idea.
That could be a good thing as long as they didn't mess with the dynamics that the show has on this one. I love this show, I would watch it's sister show. These characters are great together. I would like to think they would not do that.
If they really need to do anything, I think they should do more crossovers between shows or at least characters if the show is no longer on (like JAG). I was surprised that they didn't have any crossovers from JAG to NCIS.
Don't mess with the Sensational Six! As long as they leave Gibbs, Tony, Ziva, McGee, Abby and Ducky on the original NCIS it wouldn't bother me if they started a spin-off. But if even one of them left, I think it would ruin the awesome dynamic they have going now!
NO, Don't do it. NCIS is a great great show, but not because of the concept. Its the great actors and their great chemistry and characters that make the show. No other show has what NCIS has, its a random occurrence of the stars aligning, and good producers who let the actors colaberate. Just branding a show NCIS and having it take place in the same universe will not make a show great.
Arrrrrggh! They're all the same freaking show!
we will have to see how they do it
Quit with the spin offs! Few spin offs are good with the exception of CSI NY and Lavern & Shirly.
Good as long as they don't take away any of the regulars from NCIS
Yeah I agree, not really necessary. But, we'll see what they come up with
To be honest I don't think this really neccessary, I mean I tune in to NCIS for the characters and their own individual quirks not so much the general forula of the show. So if you aren't going to move familiar characters to the spin off I don't really see the point. That's not to say I wouldn't give it a look if the rumors are true.
Great! Can't wait. Although it won't, can't really be a spin-off in the terms that CSI: NY and Miami are spin-offs from CSI. The driving force behind NCIS is Gibbs. You might be a Abby, Tony, Ducky or McGee fan but you can't deny that Gibbs is the driving force. Without him NCIS wouldn't be NCIS. Now a spin-off would feature a second Gibbs style dude and that will get booted pretty fast. No they will have to come up with an complete new concept otherwise it won't get much air time...
Yawn.
Uh oh. Now CBS is going Disney Channel on us. They are doing the same thing Disney always does, take a successful show and try to duplicate it in hopes of having double success, and that rarely works...
sounds good at first... but then again, it cant get any better... can it?
Idea only an idea please
Let's hope this idea stays exactly that... an idea.
I got to say Ncis kind of lost it for while when they killed off Agent Todd and is starting to get good again why mess with it when it is working. The spin off could work but most spin offs usually take someone from the show that is working and send that person to the other show. Like I said it could work but most likely you will just end up with a Mr. Roper spin off. JUNK!
Spin-off of a spin-off? Riiiiiiiight.
When something's this good, why try to push it even further???
Sweet lord this is getting stupid now.
If TPTB read this thread and they're smart enough, they will surely quit this stupid spinn-off idea. It's a failure even before it stared.
Okay, but the lead actor has to be David Morse, that way you have that ST. ELSEWHERE connection with Mark Harmon. Okay, maybe Howie Mandel?
Whilst NCIS was a spin off of JAG, it didn't depend too much on JAG to help it out in the ratings; JAG just helped launch it, but for majority of time the two are different. Mac and Harm haven't even appeared in an ep of NCIS. (it was Gibbs and the team who appeared in an ep of JAG) Still, Why a spin off? just keep the show going at least as long as JAG. Yeah shows get a bit expensive to produce after year 7, but that hasn't stopped JAG or Stargate SG1. NCIS, with the writing and actors it currently has, is sure to small all records if it keeps going. and NO spin offs! That'll only spoil the good name of the show! I'm sick of all the CSI spin offs out there, don't make the same thing with NCIS. Come up with other original ideas, instead of spinning shows off.moreless
I'm doubtful that it will work. The thing that makes NCIS successful and enjoyable to watch are its characters. I thinkk it would be really hard to replicate that.
Focus on the awesome show of NCIS and don't worry about any other show which in no way could do as good as NCIS.
Will anyone come up with an online petition against this spin-off please. SAY NO TO NCIS SPIN-OFFS!!THERE IS ONLY ONE TEAM GIBBS!
There's a saying ' If it's not broke then don't try to fix it ' Leave NCIS alone, just keep churning out exciting seasons and they wont be any problems.
A spin off is a double edged sword, so let's hope CBS knows which end is the dullest and which is the sharpest.
NCIS was a spin off of JAG! I dont think that a spin-of of this show would work ! But I may be wrong.....
Wasn't NCIS a spin off of JAG?
Just don't break up the team! They can have Lee. :)
Noo!! Boooo!! Worst idea EVER! Keep all those wonderful ideas to NCIS alone! Theres no way they can create another Gibbs.
You should see what the penguins get up to, while no-one#s watchin'!! %op
Up next NCIS: Chicago, followed by NCIS: Boston, finally NCIS: Arctic Circle (and you thought polar bears didn't commit crimes...)
Well at least they aren't talking about another reality show they want to push on us.
NO!!! THEN WHAT WILL I SAY WHEN PEOPLE ASK WHICH CSI I WATCH!!! My usual response is: NONE OF THEM - NCIS IS IT'S OWN SHOW!!
Okay, I'm open to the idea... in maybe four years time! if they do make a spinoff, PLEASE GOD don't call it NCIS: New York
Call it something else. I will however leave with a very loud, on my knees begging sort of: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I agree that's what makes this show so unique, NO SPINOFF! I got my hubby hooked on it two years ago so he's playing major catch up. He loves it so do our two sons. Number Three in the ratings last week. After Dancing with Stars, CSI and voila! NCIS.
PLEASE: NO!!!! Leave it as it is. Don't turn it into another CSI. The program works as it is, due to the team & the fact there the only team in that field (Military). If you start spinning off shows it will detract from the original. The reason the formula works is as it's the ONLY show. Let's keep it (great) that way.
Just leave it be and concentrate all the energy on NCIS.
