CBS puts Skeet Ulrich on its Back

Skeet Ulrich

Attention Jericho fans: at least your lead actor is back on television. Skeet Ulrich has been signed to a CBS drama pilot says The Hollywood Reporter, reuniting the actor with the network that canceled (and uncanceled and re-canceled) his cult show.

Ulrich will play the lead in Back, a story about a man who returns home after being reported missing eight years prior as a casualty of the 9/11 attacks. The drama will revolve around him reconnecting with his family and how things back home moved on without him.

Jericho grabbed headlines when CBS canceled it and the show's fans rallied to get it brought back onto air by sending tons (yes, literally) of peanuts to CBS headquarters as a nod to the show's final episode of its first season. CBS eventually acquiesced and granted a shortened second season, but ultimately the show was canceled for good.

In other casting news, Tyler Labine--who plays the lovable Sock on the CW's Reaper--has been cast as the lead in the Fox pilot Sons of Tucson, say Variety. The comedy revolves around a man (Labine) who is hired to act as a father figure to a group of boys while their father is in prison.

Great for Labine… but what about Reaper?

Skeet is a fantastic actor. Just watch the season finale of season 1 of Jericho, or when he and Kenchy debate about continuing to operate on April, or the end of Heart of Winter when he is crying to his father (McRaney). Amazing performances. The character of Jake was very one-dimensional and so he only had brief opportunities to showcase his skills. Hope 'BACK' is successful, but audiences are very single-minded and superficial now. All they want are medical/legal/crime melodramas and unique scripts like Jericho etc can't compete with the mundane, predictability people want.

He's bothering with them because he's human and he wants work. So he can earn money, to you know, buy things.

I agree with Xavier. Why is Skeet bothering with these networks run by jagoffs. He's better than that.

I don't trust CBS. I'm happy that Skeet has an opportunity to be on tv again, but much like being dumped at the alter twice, I wouldn't want to be wedded to CBS, or NBC, as they are ones who easily and readily dump new shows and drop in reality shows as a bandaid for a lack of vision and legacy. As for Tyler, I wish him well and hope this doesn't hurt Reaper, since I really like Reaper and hope it continues.

"BACK" seemes interesting but all TV shows look "Interesting" then, when they start, there can be a deception or a good impression "wait and see"

    XO XO

I really hope Tyler Labine can do both shows somehow. He MAKES Reaper for me. Although I think he is funny enough to carry a show on its own. Sons of Tucson sounds good....at least worth a look right?

Back sounds good, but Sons of Tuscon sounds horrible. I guess this means Reaper won't be coming back for a 3rd season.

Jericho was a great tv show, but Skeet Ulrich has to be one of the worst actors I have ever seen. His acting is as wooden as pinocchio's privates. But am glad to hear Tyler Labine is appearing as the lead in his own show.....as he rocks as Sock in Reaper.

Does that mean Reaper might not be on after season 2?

This is all good news, but what does it mean for REAPER?

Hopefully Labine has something in his contract so that if Reaper gets renewed that he would stay with the show.
