CBS Renews Four More Shows, Including Code Black and The Odd Couple

Although the rest of the broadcast networks have firmed up their renewals and cancellations for next season, CBS is still dragging things out for at least one of its shows. On Monday, the network made the decision to renew freshman series Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Code Black, the sophomore comedy The Odd Couple, and the reality series Undercover Boss, according to TV Line. Meanwhile, the fate of fan favorite Limitless, based on the film of the same name, still hangs in the balance because CBS loves playing with our emotions.

The Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders renewal comes on the heels of CBS killing one of its other long-running franchises with last week's cancellation of CSI: Cyber. Beyond Borders stars Gary Sinise and follows the FBI abroad as a team investigates international abductions and murders of Americans. Criminal Minds original flavor was previously renewed for Season 12. Meanwhile, all three versions of NCIS have already been renewed for the fall.

CSI Cyber was mindblowingly dull. Patricia Arquette is expressionless. CSI Beyond Borders cast (sans Senise and
Alana De La Garza) seems very amateurish.

I adore Marcia gay harden and I am glad about code black. on the other hand I'm not so sure about beyond boarders . I have been watching it but it just seems too unrealistic to me. As far as undercover boss let's be honest, how do the employees not know their on this show

Surprised by Code Black. I hope next year they iron a few things out like the cast. It was sort of interesting actually watching them cast people and then let them go after two or three episodes - Kevin Dunn, Cress Williams (glad he went though), Christina Vidal (did not know Lisa had an acting sister). They then bring in Jeff Hephner fresh from that Sharon Stone spy thing, Tommy Dewey who I realized is from Hulu's Casual series, and Meagan Good from Minority Report with a whole new hairstyle. Shiri Appleby appeared in two or so episodes too as this female doctor's partner. Spoiler - she did not survive either.

It's was not a bad show - maybe does too much to pull at your emotions at times, but it's decent enough and currently seems the opposite of Grey's Anatomy and Heartbeat type medical shows. I've not seen the Chicago Med one.

I figure Limitless is dead if they're taking their damn time to make an announcement.

This observation probably comes a year late but what an Earth were they thinking casting Gary Sinise in another one of their procedural franchises? Every time I see an ad for Beyond Borders I wonder why the hell the CSI: NY team are travelling to France. Surely this also confuses all of CBS's older viewers as well.

What I mean is - like Forever Limitless is a great show that deserves more that 1 season but gets cancelled and much, much worse shows "must" go on... And yes - Forever WAS better.

yes it is i agree of the new shows it is. however i am thrilled that code black got renewed for a show that started out pretty shitty it slowly got better with each episode.but i'm praying limitless is going to be renewed as well. that's another show that did start out well but it was a kind of slow start and the 2nd half of the season was brilliant. it just took awhile to get there

POI stopped being the best show around about the time Carter left... when they brought in cheesy unrealistic villains after cheesy unrealistic villains, femme fatales (read: unrealistic SJW BS), referring to the machine as "she" instead of "it" (more SJW BS), and a whole lot of downplaying Reese's Delta/CIA training by having the new female regulars constantly outstage him.

Two women (Groves and Shaw) of which one has no military training yet able to go all John Woo action hero style on everyone, and the other, recruited out of the marines... THE MARINES!!! Sure, it's no easy feat to join the marines, but come on... Delta Tier-1 Operator vs Marine... Delta... Marine... Huge difference.

It seems all Reese's character's good for now is getting knocked out by some street thugs or organized criminals or waiting on someone else in the team to come to the rescue. His bad-assery is dead, much like my fondness of this show.

They announced Supergirl last week. It's renewed for season 2, but it's moving to CW, thank God, where instead of using the show to try and suck in a younger audience the younger audience is already there, meaning the show will be properly supported. Also it will officially be part of the so called "Arrow-verse" which means endless crossovers ahead, which will be awesome, and will also mean Supergirl is gonna get Eiffel towered by Barry and Oliver! ;-)

My guess is we're waiting to hear one of two possible scenarios for Limitless: 1) Sold to Netflix or another platform; or 2) cancelled. CBS is currently shopping it, which is why the haven't gotten their sh*t together with an announcement. Them shopping it at all doesn't bode well for its future on CBS - the real question is whether or not someone else will give it a chance. I loved this show, and will be very disappointed/angry if it doesn't come back in some form.

So I am both surprised and delighted that CM:BB, Code Black, and The Odd Couple have been renewed. I'm delighted because I like each very much, but surprised because my personal score sheet had all three of them down as goners, nevertheless I am happy to have been wrong in this case. As for CSI: Cyber, I am crushed over its cancellation, but I cannot say I am even the least bit surprised.

However, what truly concerns me is Limitless! I have fallen hard for this show and I can sincerely and honestly say that I don't just love it, but that I am in fact truly, madly and deeply in love with it! CBS has me quite literally biting my nails completely off! I can truthfully say that if they don't renew it I will either: One, die from Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, which is colloquially known as Broken Heart Syndrome; Or two, will not be able to emotionally cope with it and will kill myself.

Who the hell is watching The Odd Couple with Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon? Seriously, this isn't even "guilty pleasure" territory, it's just bland, generic, dated material with a name your grandpa recognizes.

I don't over analyze shows as respectfully some here do. I enjoy (feel good, relax, laugh) while watching it. It keeps my attention (departure from regular life stresses). Scripts are good. Acting by Oscar is great. It has some good hot babe eye candy. It's my favorite current comedy. I also like ANGIE TRIBECA. I miss WELCOME TO SWEDEN. My favorite all time comedy is I DREAM OF JEANNIE. That's my tastes, & I respect that you & others have different likes/dislikes/favorites/reasons etc.

Bye Limitless. It was a procedural that had the guts to deviate from the beaten path and as a reward it's probably canceled. And if i'm honest not enough people were watching it in the end.

Forever, also a non traditional procedural got axed last year.
See the pattern?

Code Black renewed? I think i'm having a stroke. It was predictable and bland. Same is true for Beyond Borders. It's beyond comprehension. Mediocrity rules the airwaves. It's so sad.

But what's another year without a painful cancellation or two? Last year we had Forever, Hindsight and Hannibal. This year The Grinder, Person of Interest and Agent Carter.

*** starts to cry uncontrollably ***

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders is just another "Crossing Borders" as far as I'm concerned, and Crossing Borders was a much better version of it. I'd much rather see CSI: Cyber renewed. I found that much more interesting.

So happy for Code Black :) I don't watch any of the other renewed shows, I might watch CM: BB sometime in the summer (I love Criminal minds). I don't understand obsession with Limitless. I stopped watching after 6 episodes. It went in a different way than expected, it became stupid and not even funny with his puppets and direct addressing of viewers. Still I expect a renewal. And if they don't some other network will.

CBS makes their official announcement Wednesday, but the actual lineups seem to be coming out a day early this year, so we'll probably know by tomorrow the fate of Limitless. I suspect it could wind up a mid-season replacement. But I'd rather see it cancelled than treated as this season's PoI.

I wonder if the execs at CBS are reluctant to renew Limitless because it falls outside their understanding of by-the-numbers procedurals. They probably greenlit POI because of the Nolan name and they were doubly lucky to get Cooper's Limitless. If they give Limitless the axe, you can be sure high profile names will give Netflix/Amazon/HBO/AMC a look first. If CBS decides to pass, I hope one of the aforementioned pick it up.

CBS isn't the serial killer ABC is. It keeps stupid show until they die of old age while ABC murders shows while they are young and leave a pretty corpse.

Serious CBS - you renew The (awful) Odd Couple - but cancel Person of Interest? I know CBS owns this site and all but seriously CBS - you suck - your programming decisions are the worst! Go order another generic cop or fireman show and stick the word Criminal or CIS in front of it already like you usually do. Ugh. Network tv needs to just die already (other than shockingly The CW which actually has good shows now).

I'm glad ODD COUPLE was renewed. I mainly like dramas/scifi, & this is one of only two current comedies I like. The other is ANGIE TRIBECA (TBS). Recent comedy I had liked the most was WELCOME TO SWEDEN (no longer on). Best comedy ever was I DREAM OF JEANNIE!

What really pisses me off about The Odd Couple getting a third series, is that I like the last three Matt Perry vehicles before The Odd Couple and they all got cancelled after one season. But The Odd Couple is the turd you just can't flush away.
