CBS Renews Most of Its Primetime Schedule, Including Person of Interest, The Good Wife, and Elementary; Can You Spot the Missing Shows?

This is Reese's "excited" face.

It's a good day to be a CBS series: Just like last year, the network has issued a mass renewal encompassing most of its schedule, ordering new seasons of 14 of its primetime series. Let's do this the easy way, shall we?

Renewed today:
2 Broke Girls
48 Hours
60 Minutes
The Amazing Race
Blue Bloods

Elementary
The Good Wife
Hawaii Five-0
The Mentalist
Mike & Molly
NCIS: Los Angeles
Person of Interest
Survivor

Undercover Boss

Renewed previously:
The Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
CSI
NCIS

No word yet:
Criminal Minds
Golden Boy
Two and a Half Men
CSI:NY
Vegas

Obviously, this news means most of CBS's roster will remain intact going into the 2013-2014 season. Most of today's renewals were givens; of the shows that are still awaiting verdicts, Two and a Half Men will almost certainly return—the network is currently in talks to bring it back, so it's a sure bet once all the necessary contracts are signed. CSI:NY is a long shot, as is the moving-to-Fridays Vegas. I'm also not liking Golden Boy's odds. Finally, Criminal Minds is on pretty solid ground; like Two and a Half Men, paperwork is probably the only reason it wasn't included in today's announcement.

Which renewal are you most excited about? Which non-renewal are you most concerned about?

The Amazing Race, much like other shows of its ilk, has surely lived its life? Shows like Criminal Minds have surely not. I'm glad I know that it HAS been renewed, because, well, I would have to be really angry enough to write a letter rather than a comment here. CBS is THE network for drama -- I'm not much into 1/2 hour comedy, and the only other shows I watch on a regular basis are mostly on BBCA -- or Fox. Hum. Or ABC. I only watch the local news on NBC, so sue me. Anyway, When oh when will we get rid of these stupid "survivor" type shows and get really interesting shows, such as the ones already renewed, on again. Surely they cannot be cheaper to produce?

I really hope they keep Vegas, I think it's a brilliant show but then again I also thought that about "No Ordinary Family" (also starring Michael Chiklis) and "Alcatraz" (also starring Sarah Jones) and they got cancelled!! ;'( It's also great to see Aimee Garcia getting a bit more airtime than she did in Dexter.

Person of Interest is the best thing on TV. I do not like NCIS:LA as well as NCIS, but I continue to watch. I would REALLY not be interested in an NCIS:Red (if that is even in the works). I'm thinking that after 10 years, it may be time to retire the original NCIS. I like Elementary and Blue Bloods. H5O is OK. The rest of the schedule is of no interest to me.

As long as they don't "retire" the cast of NCIS, CBS could retire the show. How can you not like looking at the eye candy at some of the other shows? Really.

Vegas is really enjoyable, and I hope it is on for many years to come. Thank you.

I'm worried about "Vegas" I think it's a solid show, though I haven't been following the ratings at all.

VERY happy to see Person of Interest renewed! Even at its worst - it's still the best TV out there! Regarding Criminal Minds, I started watching it from its pilot. It was great as it concentrated on the team and how they solved serial killings. But, in the past 3 years or so CM got away from what made it great and I only tune in once in a while - way too much gratuitous, really hideous violence. I read the only thing delaying CMs renewal is getting final agreement on contracts for the main cast.

I'm concerned about Two and a Half Kelso getting renewed. That show was dead since Charlie Shenis left. I don't have anything against Kelso but he is not in the right place. Or right time period. And we're still waiting on that damn That 70's Show reunion special. I miss Red. And even if Mila Kunis has a busy schedule, I'm sure she is willing to participate in it. The rest (except for Kutcher) are not doing much at the moment.

Not displeased. The VEGAS move to Fri nights conflicts with GRIMM and TOUCH in my Time Zone and with limited DVR capabilities VEGAS is not only an interesting city but it is gone.

I grieve with your sure knowledge by now that TOUCH was cancelled. Stupid move. Stupid. Stupid.

Except for The Big Bang Theory, I don't watch any of these shows. A lot of these shows sound and look the same. The same drama, the same laughs, but if CBS is finding success more power to them.

I'm not as pleased with Criminal Minds this season. I just watched the episode where Beth Riesgraf was bumped off and it was pretty good up to that point. But Spence lied when he said he could handle it, to everyone, and the show keeps getting more brutal and nasty each week with freak killers with no redeeming value, killing with impunity. They can cancel it as far as I'm concerned, as I don't need gratuitous violence to make my day. Bring back Bunheads - I know it's not CBS but bring it back anyway because it's great...

Why wouldn't it be? Nobody is that stupid. It's probably the best show on TV right now along with Person of Interest, and Elementary has come a long way since it's rather clumsy beginning. CSI: NY did a cross-over episode with CSI and I watched it but still only need one CSI in my life and Ted Danson & Co rock it...

I never, ever, ever thought I'd say this: But Ted Danson has done a GREAT job after William Petersen left (and yes, after Lawrence Fishburne). I never thought I'd like him. Never. Ever. But he's great. I'm sorry that "Sara & Gris" got a divorce, but this at least means that there are no leftovers at all. This is like Doctor Who in that regard . . . we'll watch and love whoever is head of the crew!

Person of interest still catches my interest:-) And I would certainly miss Bear if the show ever gets canceled.

Maybe a new person to run Vegas, since who'd be loyal to the person that botched what should have been a great show.

I like Vegas. Are you saying they screwed up the plot or just saying that because of the Friday thing because Golden Boy isn't so great even with Chi McBride. Bring back Human Target and it'll fly this time, I swear...

Really pi$$ed at how they managed to screw up Vegas! Show was getting 9-10M viewers and it can't hold a Tuesday night slot? It doesn't help when you take multiple weeks off or put a show on hiatus for weeks then move it to Friday? apparently. Pretty obivous they kicked it to Friday to burn it off.

If one of the shows issues is the high profile cast and their cost, why not start out with a lower profile one? Anyway, this marks the 2nd good Jason O'Mara show to get short shift (Life on Mars) at least ABC had the courtesy of letting them write the season finale as a series finale. Wasn't great but at least plausible. I doubt they'll do the same for Vegas. Makes me tired of investing in network dramas and the #1 reason I didn't and won't give Golden Boy a chance. It gone!

I will be disappointed if Vegas isn't renewed. I think the Golden Boy is one of those sleeper series that can be good given enough time to mature somewhat. I quite enjoy it even if the plot is a tad thin and unbelievable. Criminal minds has run its life out for me. It seems like we are simply getting new murderers with a slight twist on previous ones. The same goes for all the CSI shows though I will still watch the original Vegas based CSI. The NY version has lost my interest this year. They should marry Mack off and close down the show.

Most of my favorites have been renewed. These are the Good Wife, Blue Bloods and Elementary which I am surprised made the cut.

Elementary, The Good Wife & Person Of Interest are top notch.
If Golden Boy can keep a main storyline going besides case of the week (which feel a little flat after watching 5 seasons of Castle just recently), i'd love that show to get renewal status too. Chi McBride is always great, but dude playing Clarke is incredible. Best casting for a new show since Amell in Arrow.

Considering CSI: NY was supposed to be canceled last season, but was spared solely because CBS decided to instead it was more cost-effective to axe its more expensive (but overall better) sister show CSI: Miami, I'm placing a solid bet that this will be the last season for Mac Taylor and his team. I've said my goodbyes to that show LONG ago when Stella left; it hasn't been the same, but it does honestly try. I am glad, though, that if it does go out, at least it went out with a happy ending. Mac found true love again, and is engaged. Lets end it there instead of taking the CSI: Miami way and having his romantic interest get gunned down by the Villain of the Season.

yay for Elementary!! and The Mentalist now that we finally know who Red John is. Sam Weiss has changed.
why do they always tease us with Criminal Minds? Is there any way that show will ever be cancelled against its will?

Great for the ones that are already renewed. I'm just waiting for the announce for Criminal Minds because it's the only one that's left for sure. The other ones I don't care at all.

CBS has been surprising me. I never watched CBS shows but slowly but surely, I picked up quite a few of them, and they now encompass most of the shows I watch. NCIS, Big Bang, HIMYM, Elementary, I even watch Young and the Restless lol!

Glad to see The Good Wife getting a renewal, it deserves it, still on fire.

Not surprised to see any of those on the "no word yet" list there, they all feel like dead weight, except 2.5 Men which feels like it's just run its course but could probably make decent returns on yet another season.

Happy with 2 Broke Girls, Mike + Molly, How I Met Your Mother, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods and Undercover Boss being renewed. Rules Of Engagement, unfortunately has run it's course. It'll 100 with the season finale and is already in syndication and two main cast members have signed on for other series.

I am also happy with Elementary coming back for season two as well. I watch Golden Boy and Vegas, but I think Golden Boy is getting canceled and the only way Vegas will get a second season is if it does better on Fridays than it did on Tuesdays. CSI: NY needs to die so there is room for Miami to come back for an 11th season.

True, I just hope it has a proper ending. I hate when a show I have put years into doesn't get an ending.
Reply

RoE isn't really a show that needs an ending though, they could have Jen and Adam finally get married and Audrey and Geoff finally start to raise their kid, but I think the show would do fine after those events happened so they really wouldn't feel like the ultimate conclusion to the series.

If CSI NY or Golden Boy gets cancelled for NCIS Red, that'll be a net loss. I watched both "Red" episodes, and the Red team did not impress me at all. Reminds me of Criminal Minds' horrible spinoff.

I agree with you on NCIS Red. I watched both episodes but there just was not any chemistry between the cast members. It totally reminded me of the Criminal Minds spinoff - absolutely no chemistry either! Great actors, but, meh.

'Tis a shame some of the shows likely to be cancelled, but I guess when you have pretty nearly all good shows it's something you can't avoid. CBS is definitely doing well.

POI! POI! POI! Best show on TV.

I am concerned about Golden Boy. I'm a few episodes behind, but I really enjoyed the first 3. Solid procedural, but Chi McBride really turns it up a notch.

The Hawaii 5-0 ratings have been a little low for the network so it's future was a little unclear. But it could wind up getting moved off Mondays.
NCIS:Red may be starting up next year which would give the network three NCIS shows. The question is whether they'll rotate it with an existing show or run it along with the others. We could get three hours of NCIS on Tuesdays.
I expect that Vegas will be dropped. The only thing that could save it would be a strong ratings performance on Fridays which would justify keeping it around. But it will be a week before it's back and much of the audience may have already moved on.

My money is NCIS:Red is gonna be lined up with the other two NCIS series just like they did with Los Angeles
