CBS Renews Survivor for Seasons 29 and 30 Because Survivor Cannot Die Because It's Called Survivor

CBS has renewed its popular reality competition series Survivor for two more cycles, the 29th and 30th if we're being specific, to air during the 2014-2015 TV season. This should come as no surprise, because the show consistently wins its Wednesday-evening time slot, averaging 11.29 million viewers. Jeff Probst will return as host.

The current edition of the series, Survivor: Blood vs. Water, airs its two-hour finale this Sunday, December 15 at 8pm. The "Blood vs. Water" theme pitted former competitors against their own loved ones, so I imagine that during the live reunion show that's scheduled to air directly after the finale, Probst will cue up some Destiny's Child and everyone will have a nice group singalong. That's how these things work, right?

Do you still watch Survivor? Are you excited for more? What "themes" or new twists would you like to see?

This site is sooooo far behind on it's reality shows! Talk about a ghost town! I was just passed up by a tumbleweed while walking down the main street.

It's an amazing show. I will watch it as long as it is on the air and long after that. Survivor has had a huge influence on my life and I admire and respect anyone who has ever participated in the game. I wish that I wasn't injured or I would audition. It's my favorite reality show and I think the greatest reality show of all time. More people should give it a chance, but to those of us who do, we win!

I actually don't mind it's renewed. It's one of those shows I watch to just unwind and then shout at my Tv, which is fun as it annoys my neighbours.

I watched the first season. That was more than sufficient for me. I'm looking forward to it ending. I prefer the whining to be done because it was scripted. If I wanted to deal with real world whining, I'd talk to my family more often.

As long as there's two seasons a year then the show doesn't have anything to worry about. When they cut it back to a single winter season each year then the show might be in trouble, but it could still last a few years after that point.

Still watching it and enjoying it---the manipulation, game play, strategy.... fascinating to watch. The past two episodes have been among the best. I can't believe they drew rocks the other week--huge move for Sienna (sp?)

I'll watch the show until the end. As for those who do the whole hate thing, two things: 1) It's a solid reality series that delivers what it promises cycle after cycle. 2) The fact that Probst is the only constant means the cast can give a fresh take with each new season. All I ask is that no one with the last name of Hantz EVER appear on the show again...EVER!!!!

I still love watching Survivor and The Amazing Race and will continue to watch as long as they are on. Also if any network wants to restart The Mole, I'll gladly watch that as well.

This trash-talking is amazing... with the Winter Olympics on the way, I'm all for an international edition! Keep up the chirpin' ;)

I always wanted an international version of Survivor - USA vs Canada or England or THE WORLD.

But Writerpatrick's right - most contestants from other country would OWNED Americans. Canadians would killed their adversaries with kindness and wouldn't bitch about anything. And can you imagine an Australian who grew up in the outbacks during the challenges? No way could he lose!

Naw, they gonna keep it US-only, which is disappointing, but still fine by me.

Because the Canadians are too good at survival. How many Americans could survive a Canadian winter?

Well I guess I'm one of the few that still enjoys this show, but perhaps that's because I didn't start watching it until two years ago. Anyway, I'm glad to see they're renewing it, but hope they don't repeat the Blood vs. Water thing - it made for a pretty boring first 3/4 of the season. Things have only gotten good in the last couple weeks since all the "loved one" pairs were broken up.

Like American Idol, it needs to go away for a few years, the constant "tropical" settings seem more like a vacation, why not plant them in a colder winter setting, let them really work for it? Should be every man/woman for themselves too, just a video camera, a survival guide, and three (on second thought, make it two) weeks worth of supplies that has to last them a month. The last one standing wins, or if they have no single winner, they split the money amongst the remaining contestants. Those eliminated are airlifted out and that's it. Also, no calls home, and they can only bring one item with them, and no host, just the guide in charge.

Have you ever seen Siberia. It is exactly what you described and it was discontinued after one season since no one liked it. Sorry to ruin your little proppsition , but Survivor is the best.

Haven't watched last night's episode, but last week's tribal council was BANANAS.

For my money, most interesting reality show on the airs... with The Challenge.

I been watching since season 1. One of my guilty pleasures. There are seasons when it was not very interesting but I think this season was one of the good ones ! Blood vs water is a very good idea and I think it has added a new dimension to a very old show.

I really liked one season where the tribes where divided into 4 races but I guess race issues are quite sensitive and it probably will never be repeated again.

What I really wanted to see was a international version where they invite contestants from all over the world (English speaking obviously) to battle it out with some of the best from the USA. Since Survivor is loved all over the world, I think it would really makes things very interesting. Same with The Amazing Race. It would also shows how people of different countries and culture interacts.

I doubt it will ever happen though since US networks executives seems preoccupied with only US market. Hey, even if that is the case, it might also increase ratings since more US viewers might watch to root for the country sort of like the Olympics.

It's ridiculous to say the American viewing audience is stupid because they enjoy a television show. "Survivor" is fun every season because it's basically a social experiment that surprises even Jeff at times. This season has far exceeded what I thought it would be; it's great. Newbies would be nice, but at this point, the returning players usually show a different side of themselves. Let the show go on another 30 seasons!

How so? Just because a lot of people watch Survivor they're stupid?

I actually find it to be one of the few remaining non-trash reality shows. Sure, some of the "barren survival" set up might not be true, but there's still the element of strategy and allegiance and the chess match of figuring out how to play the game. There are many, many worse things out there that people could watch.

I'd like a season of all newbies. It's obvious that being a returning player is a huge advantage. At the very least, no more entire tribes of experienced players!
