CBS Sets Summer Premiere Dates for Under the Dome and Extant; Two Dome Characters Will Die Right Away

DOME! DOME DOME DOME! Get ready, Domeheads (is that what you call yourselves?), because CBS has just announced a Season 2 premiere date for Under the Dome, its ridiculous summer series that once upon a time was a "limited event" based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and is now returning for a second season of dome sex, weird eggs, and more. Big Jim and the rest of the Chester's Mill gang will be back on Monday, June 30 at 10pm with a premiere written by Stephen King himself, and according to the teaser that we just saw at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, "two Dome favorites" (LOL) won't survive the first episode. Obviously this means we'll be running an Under the Dome Dead Pool before the series returns, but in the meantime, place your early bets in the comments: Who do think will bite it? Who do you think should bite it?

Also coming to the Eye network this summer is Extant, the limited event series (at least for now) from Steven Spielberg that stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns home to Earth after spending 13 months alone in space, only to discover that "something came with her." Details on this one have been vague in recent months, but having just seen a first-look teaser (which we'll post as soon as it's available), here are a few tidbits:

– Halle Berry's character is pregnant with what is obviously going to be an alien baby

– Halle Berry's character has a human husband who's an inventor and a child he built for them who is an android

– Halle Berry's character has bangs

The show promises to combine artificial intelligence with extraterrestrial intelligence. Production begins this February in Los Angeles, and the show will debut Wednesday, July 2 at 9pm.

While Under The Dome was entertaining for obvious reasons (see dumb plot, stupid characters and terrible actors) it just makes me sad that this crap got second season, while show that nobody knows (see Siberia) was left with no promotion, bad ratings and huge clifhanger while it was actually miles better than this.

Agree wholeheartedly. Every time I see the name "Under the Dome" I cringe. Whereas Siberia had some problems, it was better on every level.

Hopefully every week two characters die until only two remain, and they must fight to the death to survive.

If I were a betting man, which I'm not, I would go with Officer Linda and one of the kids as being those that will be eliminated first.

Ehh, no clue who's gonna bite it. I'd love for it to be the dome so it could crash down and kill every person under it. Yeah, so maaaybe Bald Chick and Idiot in Beanie. If they kill that guy for me, I'll at least give them another four weeks.

"Duude, Baby Dome's hurtin' mah earballs..."

It can't be Big Jim unless they're about to start a Town v Gov't arc (though they should kill him just to save the actor from himself), and Big Jim would honestly work better in that arc so they could redeem him--nvm. Dunno why I'm talking about this show as if it needed to make any sense.

More importantly, why are we still pretending Stephen King makes good things on television? He does not translate well.

There are no Dome 'favorites', I'd say, aside from Hank -- or Big Jim (such a step down!). Stephen King adaptions can be so utterly horrible at times, but in a way I'm glad to hear that he's scripting the first episode. Not sure if that will make it better or worse, but will make it more genuine. My guess is the already horrible dialogue will suffer some, but hey.

Junior has to go.. and officer Linduh.. though that's not enough to save UtD (Inside the Sphere)..

Really Spielbergo? Another alien show. I guess there comes a time when originality just runs out.
AND NO BANGS!

With any luck, the Kryptonians, in a case of mistaken identity, will retrieve what the thought was the lost city of Kandor. And upon discovering their mistake, dump it in the midst of an asteroid belt.

That Under The Dome is been renew and will be soon on many screens is tragic. It remains me of the time when TV has very few good things to offer.
Now Halle Berry on TV, regardless of the show, story, baby or alien, it is just very good news. Welcome!

OMG! That Steven Spielberg sounds like it's gonna be great... Going back to sci-fi is what he does best! No more history/war drama! Let's hope it will be as good Steven Spielberg's Taken was or better!

Hearing Under the Dome is returning just makes me sad that Siberia isn't coming back, which was clearly far and away the better series when the 2 aired last summer.

Dome's back? It's funny, but when I think of this show coming back, I picture cinemas that played 47 Ronin. Movie running with maybe half a dozen people watching each screening. Surely, no-one gives a crap about Under the Dome, after that miserably bad first season. Those people that are still interested in this show, those that haven't read the book, do yourself a favour and forget all about the TV show and pick up the book. You will be amazed at how much of a fuck up they have done.

Dome should have come to a satisfying conclusion, making it longer put in a lot of fluff. Hopefully some pointless characters will be bumped off. Big Jim is hilarious though and the show needed a villain.

Hi to all members of the Fellowship of the Dome. Good! Another season is upon us. As long as there is no repeat of "Fight Night" I will stick with it for another season; however, if Julia is one of the deceased .....

EXTANT deserves a pilot viewing.

See even as bad as UTD is. It still is spectacularly hilarious. Just because it is absurd and the characters are so utterly dumb that you can't help but watch to see just how far the stupid goes. So it is watchable. Contrast that with The Following which is so stupid that it is unwatchable.

Well if Dean Norris is as smart as I've given him credit for in the past (oh don't fail me Norris!!) Big Jim's character will be on the chopping block. For Dean Norris' career I also hope Big Jim dies - he needs to move on to other, better things. I also hope Junior dies because I hate his character with a burning passion; alas it won't be him. Just like it won't be Barbie. God I hope Officer Sheriff Linda is axed, but her horrible acting and equally bad policing will likely keep her around Chester's Mill for a while longer - plus if she's gone the CM PD is down to like …. no one, which honestly might be for the better. I'll wait to mull this over more and for the official Dead Pool before I weigh in further but my gut is saying Big Jim and Nora.

Big Jim HAS TO DIE. I can't remember hating a character this much ever! It made the already ridiculous show even more stupid and above all Frustrating! The way all the characters just blindly listened big Jim without any basic evidences or any facts simply annoyed the hell out of me. With that said, the actor was fantastic in Breaking bad!

One of them should be Big Jim, but I really doubt he will be one of them.

One might be Nora, but that would be predictable and stupid because everyone thought she would die last season.

Shows always like to hype up deaths than it turns out to be a minor character or the person comes back to life or its one of the few good characters on the show.

1. That's a huge spoiler to just blurt out with no warning.

2. The book is actually really good, which is part of the backlash this show has gotten since it has been very loose (and sloppy and dumb etc etc etc) in following the book.

the show has already taken a different course than the book so its not a spoiler about the show

Everyone has different opinions. I know a lot of people liked the book but personally I hated it. The storyline was way to dark and sick for me. I don't think the show is great I just like the storyline better than the book. For example in the book Junior kills those woman and rapes there dead bodies while in the show he just kidnaps Angie I prefer the tv show verison.

To marknmo (can't reply to your post)

Sorry if I spoiled anything for book who wanted to read the book. I was thinking about spoilers for the tv show not the book. Given its on network tv a seriously doubt it will end the same.

If it was on HBO it would probably end the same. I agree that if it was on HBO it would be more like the book. People who loved the book would probably like the show more and it would probably get better ratings. Personally I wouldn't watch it but I'm just one opinion. Just wanted to add I'm not a prude I have no problem with violence and love Game of Thrones. Game of thrones occurs in a different setting through. Storylines that take modern day people and show them in hard situations showing the worse of humanity just don't appeal to me not only the book verison of under the dome also other stories like the mist, etc.

What I mean is that it's a huge spoiler for the book (and potentially the show). The show is going about getting to things differently than the book did, but the places the stories are going are both the same so far.

I understand your dislike of the book, but I thought it was very enjoyable. One of the fascinating things I liked about it is seeing this community implode when cut off from the world and given the freedom to make their own rules of how things should be. Big Jim was the worst of them, trying to take advantage of people and hurting others in order to further himself as king of the dome.

I do agree that for network tv, I'm glad that they changed Junior's story. However, if it had been shown on say HBO instead, I would have preferred them to leave Junior the same as he was in the book (psychotic falling further into his dementia as the tumor in his head worsens. He was much more frightening that way. The way he is in this show is less believable, cause there aren't any excuses for him to be a nut who thinks it's okay to lock a woman up in his basement for a week just to get her to love him again.
