CBS has announced its summer schedule, and--believe it or not--it isn't anchored by forensics dramas and acronyms. Instead, the network's coming months feature an even mix of reality programs, brand-spanking-new dramas, and some game shows.
CBS held some of its dramas for the summer months, and it could pay off. As previously announced, Swingtown and Flashpoint will make their debuts as part of the summer schedule. Swingtown, about a couple that gets involved in the social revolution of the 1970s, will get it on June 5, a week later than was previously revealed. Flashpoint, about a super awesome tactical unit that fixes all sorts of problems, will premiere on July 11.
On the reality front, pooch-fest Greatest American Dog goes for a walk on July 10. The show crams dogs and their overbearing owners in a house, where scratching, yapping, and howling will likely unfurl in front of the camera. The dogs may get into it, too. Each human-dog team will compete in various tasks, and the winner will leave with $250,000. Also coming this summer is the Greatest American Dog for humans--also known as Big Brother--which debuts its 10th edition on July 13.
Regis Philbin will be retuning to primetime as a game-show host, this time bringing his knee-slapping humor to Million Dollar Password, which premieres June 1. The updated version of the classic will feature celebrity drop-ins from Rosie O'Donnell, Betty White, Neil Patrick Harris, and more. Jingles, a new show from megaproducer Mark Burnett, starts singing on July 27. The program has contestants think up and perform catchy jingles for TV shows, products, or anything. Seriously, that's what the show is about.
And finally, the fastest growing sport comes to primetime with a pair of mixed martial arts (MMA) events. The very scary Kimbo Slice headlines the first CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights on May 31, and a second event is planned for July 26.

Oh yay. More reality tv. Yet another reason to spend time with family and friends, watching movies and just plain hanging out. I hate when some of my fave shows get moved around just so new, possibly awful shows can be debuted. SIGH
good to see MMA is getting a shot at the big networks. but hope that haveing to many MMA circuits won't hurt that sport buy spreading the talent and fans to thin. it may get confusing to some fans with almost a dozen different circuits
Thank god for Netflix.
odd names 4 shows
Million Dollar Password/Greatest American Dog I MEAN REALLY? REALLY? What is next? filiming a cat lady convention and calling that PRIME TIME TV...
Maybe Swingtown and Flashpoint will be decent but i won't hold my breath...
I enjoy some reality TV shows, but now, I am just getting sick with these ridiculous ideas for reality shows. They need to come up with a jingle to just keep the old, good reality shows on air.
barf on the reality crap..
Seriously, now humans have really become obsessed w/ reality tv shows. It's bad enough that every week the top 20 ratings chart show 50 to 70 percent of those shows are REALITIES.American tv directors/producers have really gone rock bottom
Flashpoint will probably be bad but it has a chance of being good so I'll give it a shot. It's not like I'll be watching much else during the summer.
flashpoint sounds cool
Hmmm, not seeing anything great..or that interesting...well,let's say good. Ok it's crap! I do love Regis....
yuck more game shows yuck
Ehhh... Sounds like DVDs from the BBC this summer for me!
