Celebrity High-Five: Jason Dohring's 5 Favorite TV Shows

Perhaps you've been missing Jason Dohring—who many Veronica Mars fans will forever identify as lovable bad-boy Logan Echolls—or perhaps you're bummed that his recurring but short-lived role as Mr. Carpenter on last year's Ringer didn't bring him back to your TV screen long enough. Regardless, the wait to see him act again is over: Now you can catch the young actor in the indie film Searching For Sonny (released on DVD August 28), a dark comedy/thriller in which Dohring stars alongside Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Masi Oka (Heroes, Hawaii Five-0), and Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galatica).

In Searching for Sonny, Dohring plays an unsuccessful 28-year-old pizza delivery boy who, along with his friends, find themselves as prime suspects in the disappearance of their old friend Sonny. We recently caught up with Dohring to chat about his lead role in the film, what else he's working on this days, and of course, his five favorite TV shows.

How would you describe working on Searching for Sonny compared to doing television?

Well, we were allowed more freedoms and takes than usual, as compared with TV. This gave us more room to take chances and improvise, a lot of which ended up in the film.

What were your favorite moments on the set?

Any time you get Minka Kelly dancing around to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" during a late-night shoot, it's always a good time.

What's next for you? Where can we see you next?

I've enjoyed some time with my family recently, although earlier this year I completed nine episodes on The CW's Ringer, with Sarah Michelle Gellar. I'm up for two projects currently, one of them a film and the other a TV show. I hope to be announcing these soon.

And now, here are Dorhing's five favorite television shows, in no particular order.

Game of Thrones

"It's just an epic show. Wonderfully acted, gripping story and high-end production value."

Modern Family

"Granted a bit less drama than, say, Game of Thrones, but it's nonetheless very entertaining."

Veronica Mars

"A man's gotta believe in himself, right?"

Deadwood

"Ian McShane's acting is effortless."

Eastbound & Down

"Because that dude just cracks me up."

What do you think of Dohring's picks? (Vote on his list here!) Did any of them surprise you?

Searching for Sonny is available now on DVD and Blu-ray; find more info at the movie's official website.

Veronica Mars was great and It sucked how the writers ended the show. I mean, what a lousy series finale.

Soo I was on Netflix, saw that they had "deep impact" available and in my moment of nostalgia I was watching a young Elijah wood get a meteor named after him, I happened to spot a just as young mr. Dhorig in e movie as well. As a fan from his days in Veronica Mars, that made my day. If anyone has the time to go back and see how search engines used to work, check the movie out.

I sincerely hope that one of those upcoming parts Dohring has is the lead in "50 Shades of Grey". I think he would play the hell out of Christian Grey, assuming he wanted to. As for his Top 5, I'm a fan of all 5 choices, but yeah....Ian McShane is the best part of anything he's in, and "Deadwood" was so interesting, I watched every single minute even after it went off the rails with that pseudo-Shakespeare business. As for "Game of Thrones", how great would it be to see Dohring turn up in a substantial role there? SO great, that's what!

Logan Echolls, Lyla Garrity, and Hiro Nakamura walk into a movie...

I've been waiting to see Searching For Sonny, I'm glad it's also on Blu-ray.. will have to rent it or something one of these days. as for Jason Dohring, he'll always be Logan to me, I'm surprised he hasn't done more honestly. but I only watch one of his top 5 shows lol

Did anybody else really like Moon Light? That was the last vampire related thing that came out that I respected. I would count True Blood among it but it got to crazy after season one, I only watch it anymore out of loyalty and hope it might return to normal, at least in some way.

I can't even describe how elated the fangirl inside of me was to see this article! I love Jason Dohring, and now love him even more for choosing Veronica Mars as one of his favorite shows. I'm rooting for you, Jason! And I hope to see more of you and your work in the near future!

Since Veronica Mars, I saw him in Moonlight and he was good in it but he didn't have much to play with and I saw him in Ringer which was just a mess, not his fault, of course, the material was just bad. He was so amazing in Veronica Mars, I just hope he gets a role that suits him better. Agree with everyone who says he should change agents, he deserves better!!! Interesting top 5.

Finally, one of these with an actor I like! Loved him in Moonlight. And I agree with two of his picks - haven't seen the rest. Maybe this means I should give them a try...

Jason Dohring is awesome, he really needs his agent to get him better work, he's got a lot of range but hasn't gotten enough work to highlight it - I keep seeing him here and there, but it's never as good as his work on Veronica Mars. Kristen Bell got to do movies, why not Dohring? I'm telling you, I think it's the representation.

I actually chuckled on that Modern Family comment. The picks are interesting and feel like a set, they don't really surprise me in that regard, although I wonder if a second-5 would be more interesting.

Well, Kristen is currently in a movie written and co-produced by her boyfriend. I don't know that an agent can arrange that sort of thing. The job she SHOULD have is as the sidekick on the Late Late Show.

Couples Retreat, You Again, When in Rome, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall were all big releases before Dax Shepard's Hit and Run.

who needs Super Bowl, give me Kristen Bell on Late Late Show more often! that's the real event.

I wish she'd get on a network show, honestly don't think House of Lies deserves her. needs a comedy or something.

I loved him in VM. I'd like to see him in more shows. He's hot. But he's a Scientologist.

Dammit, I'm sick of finding out that actors I like are scientologists.
