Celebrity High-Five: Ken Marino's 5 Favorite TV Shows

Ken Marino, how does TV.com love thee? Let us count the ways: 1) The State, 2) Veronica Mars, 3) Party Down, 4) Childrens Hospital, and as of late, 5) Burning Love, the hilarious web spoof of The Bachelor that concludes today on Yahoo! Screen. We could go on, but instead how about we just share this latest edition of Celebrity High-Five, in which Marino reveals his top five TV shows? Here are the comic genius's picks, in no particular order...

Louie

"The best. You can't say enough about this show. It's original, funny, sad, beautiful, crass. It's poetry in a TV show."

Sweet Genius

"If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and DVR every single episode. Ron Ben Israel, a charismatic pastry expert of indeterminate age and ethnicity, judges pastry chefs in three rounds. The chefs must win Ron Ben over with their culinary artistry using one of his inspirations as a jumping-off point for a genius dessert. Past inspirations include darkness, carousels, Russian dolls, ballerinas, and a python. Genius."

Key and Peele

"Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key are two of the funniest and nicest guys I've ever met. Their show is smart, topical, and relentlessly funny. I couldn't be happier that this show is a hit."

American Idol

"I'm still in. I know there's been talk of the ratings and the need for reinvention, but I've been a happy camper. This past season I was obsessed with Jessica and Joshua. I called them "my girl" and "my guy," which out of context seems really creepy. I kept episodes for months on my DVR and made countless people sit and watch my favorite performances."

Phineas and Ferb

"Three words: Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated."

What do you think of Marino's picks? Did any of them surprise you?

I am surprised by American Idol but that's just cuz I don't like it. I feel the same way about Dancing With the Stars so I get it. I love him on Childrens Hospital and (previously) The State so much it's ridiculous. Love love.

Can't believe you didn't include "Reaper" as a reason to love him! He and Michael Ian Black as the couple next door are priceless!

Oh, BTW, Ken Marino being into "Louie" is also fun because that was one of his characters on "The State", "Louie: the guy who comes in and says his catchphrase over and over" ("I wanna dip my balls in it!" and he's holding a pair of ping pong balls.)

Great stuff, and all of it both surprising and not, somehow.

I ran into him in the Comic Con lobby in his Burning Love firefighter costume (fighterfighter pants, suspenders, a helmet, and no shirt) and gave him props for being awesome, and for doing such a good job with Burning Love. He in turn gave me a magnet mini-calendar from Burning Love and explained how it will hold receipts and papers to my fridge through the power of magnetism so I don't have staple them to my fridge anymore. :-D

I gotta say, I am also abbit surprised as those last two I would never have guessed and those first couple wouldn't be at the top of my list either.

But the guy is some kind of awesome in his own comedy so I can okay these. Especially if he gets inspiration from them, I say leave the man to his work.
