The presenter is defecting to ITV in a deal which will see him heading to the GMTV sofa and fronting a range of shows including football coverage.

He will be joined by his current on-screen partner Christine Bleakley for his final stint on Friday, which is bound to be an emotional affair as the pair have become firm friends.

A spokeswoman for the show said Friday would see a special programme with a "party atmosphere".

The studio will be packed with The One Show "family", including roving reporters, presenters and "surprise guests".

The 43-year-old has appeared on the BBC One weekday magazine programme since 2007, co-presenting with Myleene Klass when the show first hit TV screens.

During the fun and frolics on the show, Adrian has dressed as James Bond, broken a kissing record, been caned on his backside and donned a pair of high heels. There will be special montages as Adrian is treated to a selection of his "best bits".

He is thought to have agreed a £6 million contract over four years with ITV after becoming disenchanted by the BBC's decision to replace him with Chris Evans on The One Show on Friday nights.

Funnyman Paul Merton and Watchdog host Matthew Allwright will fill in some hosting duties while BBC bosses hunt for a permanent replacement.

Adrian's successor on Apprentice spin-off show You're Fired is also yet to be confirmed. Colin Murray has been drafted in as a replacement for Adrian's World Cup duties.
