Christina Applegate is Now a TV Mom

... Remember when Christina Applegate was hot-piece-of-teen Kelly Bundy on Married With Children? Well now she's a TV mom and you (and I) are officially old. Applegate has been cast in a new untitled NBC pilot penned by Parks and Recreation writer Emily Spivey. She'll play a "snarky mom married to a stay-at-home dad," should everything work out. Congrats to Applegate, she's always been a class act. [Vulture]

... Simon Cowell has snagged his first judge for the upcoming glorified talent show The X Factor, coming next fall to Fox. Big-name producer "L.A." Reid has landed one of the coveted spots, and now we can all sigh in disappointment. Reid has a big name in the industry (he was behind TLC and other acts of their time), but will the common person care? [LA Times]

... Entourage's Kevin Dillon has lined up his next gig for when the HBO hit goes dark this summer. He'll play opposite David Hornsby in the CBS comedy pilot How to Be a Gentleman, about an uptight guy who learns to live life with the help of his friend. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Donald Sutherland, who is always welcome on my TV, has joined NBC's comedy My Life as an Experiment. Sutherland will play the father-in-law of the lead character (played by Canada's own Jon Dore), a man who subjects himself to outlandish experiments as part of his job as a journalist. [TV Line]

... 90210 showrunner Rebecca Sinclair has left her post, opting not to renew her contract at the CW drama. The network said the show will go on, and that it's currently looking for a replacement. Might I recommend our very own Louis Peitzman? He watches that show, right? [TV Line]

... The latest rocker to go anti-Glee (and really, they all should if they want to maintain any cred) is Foo Fighter frontdude Dave Grohl. Previously, guitar god Slash and Grammy winners Kings of Leon got into spitting wars with Glee creator Ryan Murphy over the use of their songs, which they denied him. "It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f***ing Glee," Grohl told The Hollywood Reporter. "And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f***ing show... f*** that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee." Added Grohl, "Yeah, f*** that s***." [THR]

... A couple more casting notes for ya: Tom Everett Scott (Southland) will play Jenna Elfman's overworked husband in the ABC pilot Bad Mom. Esai Morales (Caprica) is back with Ronald D. Moore, taking a role in the magic-tinged cop drama 17th Precinct over at NBC. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Do you miss Matthew Fox? The Lost star said he was done with television after the show wrapped up, because he wanted to stick with film and his hobby of flying. Fox will play an assassin in the film adaptation of James Patterson's I, Alex Cross. Look for this one sometime next year. [Deadline Hollywood]

I'm happy that Christina is getting back to the tv. I hope it works out. She always gets good shows but they get cancelled after 2 season Jesse, and Sam who? Those two were good shows that got cancelled to soon. Hope this new one works out for her.

Dave Grohl is a God. I don't like his music (sorry - I'm a middle class white girl) but I might buy his album on principle.

Thank god for David Grohl!! Why is it such a crime for the artist that writes/performs the song to choose when and where that song is used?? Glee's creator is incredibly annoying for ranting on and on about this....get over it dude!

Actually Christina Applegate already played a mom on TV in "Jesse", her own show that ran for 2 seasons back in 2005 -- do you guys on tv.com actually know anything about TV…?!

I've always adored Christina Applegate's acting. Looking forward to seeing what she does with this series.

Interesting. The role that Esai Morales is playing on "17th Prescinct" is that of Liam, a 'former woman' who has now become a man; and the role was originally offered to Eric Stolz. Both starred on "Caprica" for Ron Moore.

I am soooo over Glee. The "Afternoon Delight" production drove me over the edge. All the vocals on the show are so Auto-tuned and over-produced that the performers are essentially "lip-syncing for their lives" (to quote RuPaul) and "PM Delight" was the last straw. I'll continue DVRing it for the performance highlights but I'll be fast forwarding through most of the song segments.

@headclub

matthew fox was the lead actor in one of if not the greatest tv show of all time for 6 years and made a couple million im sure......id say he DEFINITELY got his due. and every long haired douchebag like dave grohl or kings of leon can STFU and stop acting like pathetic children plus glee's better than any of you losers

Christina Applegate is a very naturally funny woman and deserves a good vehicle to showcase her talent, and yes, she is the complete female package we all wish we had!!!!
The time clock is ticking for Glee, what once was great and promising is turning soupy!!!!!
How about a Cher show??? Far more entertaining than a Madonna or Beiber!!! Can showcase some of the lesser females on the show!!!!

Dave Grohl has a right to say no. And the producer of the show has a right to be ticked off that say, a song he wanted to use for some specific scene or another is unavailable. He certainly doesn't have to be happy about it. :\

I like Glee but I had no idea that Ryan Murphy was being that much of a jerk. I'm glad Dave Grohl basically told him to f*ck off. He's totally right, they shouldn't have to do Glee if they don't want to. It's pretty reasonable to want a say in whether or not a TV show uses your music.

I absolutely love Park and Rec so I'm really excited to see anything by (one of?) their writer(s), and I think Christina Applegate has a lot of comedic talent so I'm betting the show will be hilarious. I can't wait

Cos I'm sure Ryan Murphy was just *dying* for Rachel to sing "My Hero". While I agree that Murphy does take rejection too personally, Grohl is just as self-important to assume anyone would want to sing his songs. Whatever, I'm sure the cast of Glee will just have to settle with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Elton John, The Beatles, Queen, R.E.M., Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones...you know, people with talent.

As long as Chery Cole doesn't get a job on X-Factor, I'll be happy.

Can't wait to see Matthew Fox in a decent film. Anyone who watched Lost knows the guy has some serious acting chops. Granted, the one movie I have seen of him was not that good, but not his fault I guess. Just a bad movie.

good to see that Grohl still retains his amazing arsenal of 20 words, wish he would learn English, at least the songs would not suck then.

Great, I would've burned anything Foo Fighters I own if they'd done Glee. Ryan Murphy is such an a-hole. He should just stick to Britney Spears, Boy Bands, etc. Oh and I hope Christina Applegate has success with her new show, she always comes off as one of the nicest celebs in interviews and such.

I agree with Grohl. Murphy is such a cry baby if he is told 'No'. He takes it so personal.

Applegate played a mom 13 years ago on the show 'Jesse' on NBC, so I think that writer feels really old now, as a result, and also needs to fact check.

Simon Cowell is an insufferable egomaniac and an overall donkey-fart.// You go Dave Grohl, grunge forever!! F***k Glee. That S**t is F**in lame!!!!!// Matthew Fox's movies are always terrible, but I always thought he was straight up amazing on Lost, and never got his proper due...
