They may not be stylish, but trust us; now is the time to dust off your old 3D glasses! American comedy Chuck airs its first 3D episode this Tuesday on Virgin1, while Channel 4 also plans to join the third dimension this autumn.
Chuck's special episode takes you closer to the action in an instalment featuring Lost's Dominic Monaghan as a rock-star with an attitude. The episode, entitled Chuck versus the third dimension, aired in America to mixed reviews earlier this year, and has been given an average score of 8.2 by international TV.com users who've described it as "great" but "lazy".
Despite not being the highest-rated episode, it did attract the show's largest audience to date. Over 8 million people tuned in to watch the episode when it debuted in America during this year's Suerbowl. Check out the teaser trailer:
The US comedy is not the first show to be given the 3D treatment, and it certainly won't be the last. Sci-fi sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun and supernatural drama Medium have also featured 3D episodes, and Channel 4 hopes to add some British programming to the list soon too.
The broadcaster has a week of 3D programming scheduled to air later this year, with footage from the Queen's coronation and a special Derren Brown show expected to form the centrepieces. Elsewhere, BSkyB is continuing its plans to launch a 3DTV channel for 2010, which will require a 3D-ready television set to accept its polarised broadcast technology, meaning you won't need to wear special glasses.
3D glasses are being given away with the latest edition of TV & Satellite Week magazine and can also be bought in Sainsbury's supermarket closer to Channel 4's 3D week. For your next chance to use them, tune in to Chuck on Virgin1 this Tuesday, August 25, at 9pm.
