Cinemax Is Delaying Banshee's Final Season, But Released a New Trailer to Apologize (VIDEO)

Banshee fans—Fanshees, if you will—I have some bad news. Cinemax is delaying the fourth and final season of Banshee by a couple of months. The show's creator, Jonathan Tropper, announced the news via Twitter on Friday. Originally, the action series starring Antony Starr as a criminal who assumes the identity of a slain sheriff in Banshee, Pennsylvania, was supposed to return for its final run of eight episodes on Friday, January 29, but now fans will have to cry wait until Friday, April 1 to see the conclusion of Lucas Hood's story.

Cinemax later attempted to apologize for breaking our hearts the delay by releasing a new trailer for the final season, but it really just poured salt in the wound. Check it out below:

Ooooohhhhh shit.

Why do you enjoy torturing us, Cinemax? WHY?

Banshee's final season premieres Friday, April 1 on Cinemax.

Maybe one of the worst decisions on TV I have ever experienced.

Like ending the story of Donald Draper on Mad Men, this is stupid on so many levels. Cenimax has a winner in Banshee: a cult following, great great cast, and great writing. It has to be a money maker for their network.
Is it Cenimax or one of the writer/producers who is to blame?

Those of us who love this series and want it to continue should have some direct online addresses to contact about our disagreement.

It's better than dragging the series out until it gets bad. Everything needs a beginning, middle and end. It might should've ended with season three, because the story was pretty much completely told. If they had trimmed the little fat from season 2 and 3 that was there they could've concluded all the character arcs by last season. But, honestly, that Monday-morning quaterbacking on my part.

This is in the top 10 best series I have ever watched. Can't believe these clowns are ending it at 4 seasons. This will definitely be the end of my cinemax subscription

I'm not overly concerned by this, as long as it ends fucking awesome. No reason to rush to get to the end, since is the final 8 eps. Whatever it takes, it has to be fucking perfect.

Did the explain at all their reason for doing this? I know a number of relatively big names are coming back at the end of January, so is that why?

Label me officially depressed... though I'll be happier that the finale is that much extended as well when the time comes.

Are Cinemax worried about the ratings thus putting up against other shows or it could of have rewrites we shall wait and see

Seriously, what's the point of this?? Also, while that trailer is cool and all, I don't even really want to see more footage from the last season... stop screwing with us, Cinemax!

I hope this means that Quarry or Outcast will air a lot sooner then. It'd be dumb if they just aired nothing in its place.

I wonder how long Cinemax has known about this?

Back in the summer the season 3 DVD release date was Jan 5,
Sometime in Sept-Oct the DVD release date changed to Apr 5.

Since the DVD release date is usually really close to the next season premiere date, it makes me wonder.

Believe it or not they are far less than they were at one point, though they seem to be increasing again. I was actually once really pissed about the same thing and wrote a sarcastic, "My sister made thousands on her computer at home and bla bla bla!" and nearly had my account banned. Was stupid, really, but fortunately Noel noticed I was making an angry rant about the spam messages in a rather poor way and it turned into a discussion like this one.

Yeah, TV.com needs to work on their account-acceptance, add a captchka(sp?) and then purge all these spam accounts.

actually it's captcha. Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. but i know what you mean. I would be a little annoyed if i have to solve such a thing (sometimes i can't even see it depending what system is used)) every time i comment on something. But the spam is annoying me more and if it helps to get rid of the spambots for good i'm ok with it.

Why is this show so unwatched? If they are going to delay their final season, why not go on an advertising bender? I mean at least go on netflix...Nearly no one watched Breaking Bad its first couple of seasons (those who did are probably pretty proud and rightly so) but their finale's ratings were through the roof because so many people picked it up later. I originally heard about Banshee after season 2 in an article about "The Best Shows you're not Watching". I've never recomended it to someone who didn't like it and I feel like if they advertised it, it would be a pretty popular show.

If they don't sign the runners of this show up for another show then Cinemax is stupid. I can deal with the delay. I just don't want the people involved with creating this masterpiece scattered to the winds and end up running a four episode run on NBC because NBC can't figure out what to do with quality.

Best TV show on TV. Why ending it now? It's still makes me mad. And the trailer is supposed to help? Let's just hope the delay is for the better of the show.

So, is this a "we're still working on it" delay, or a "it's all completely filmed and Cinemax are just rescheduling it" delay?

First Starz bumps 'Outlander' to April now Cinemax follows suit with 'Banshee'. These delays really suck.

Hopefully that means they are adding a couple of episodes. This wait is just too long darnit.

I would rather they delay it and make it mind-blowingly, fucking-capital-A Awesome than force it into a predetermined timetable and put out something less than what we are hoping it will be.

I sure it's already in the can. So, unless they're doing a bunch of CGI in post (which would be an enormous departure for the show), then I suspect the holdup has absolutely nothing to do with production and instead has everything to do with scheduling.

Hopefully the delay is because they realized they need to make the final season even more epic than initially planned.

And hopefully that involves bumping up the episode count to 10...or 12... maybe 20. I'd be happy with that.

Hopefully, they realized, that they shouldn't make the new season final and must continue this epic show.
