Cinemax Orders More Strike Back

If you're a fan of things blowing up, good news! Cinemax has renewed its action series Strike Back for a third season. The season (technically the show's fourth, but only the third for Cinemax) will consist of 10 episodes, film in South Africa and Hungary, and feature 20,000 pounds of testosterone. Once again, it will be a co-production between Cinemax, which started chipping in on the series after the first six-episode miniseries, and British network Sky.

Strike Back is one of those under-the-radar shows that I've heard good things about. It's about a pair of British MI6 agents who travel around the globe saving the world and putting bullets in bad guys. Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton star.

I've heard many good things about it, but a lack of Cinemax in my house and an already full plate of television has kept me from jumping in. Perhaps now's the time to get started on this? Perhaps some of you out there who are familiar with the show can recommend it?

Here's a trailer for Season 2, currently airing on Cinemax on Fridays at 10pm.

Good news. Before Strike Back hit the screen, I had been asking for a show that minimizes the drama and gets to the point with action scenes. Overdone are the shows that feature unnecessary dialogue or drawn out sub-plots – Strike Back does not bother with filler. If a character needs to be shot, the script obliges – if a love triangle starts to interfere with a mission, one of the points is eliminated (S1 van explosion) quickly. Show kills characters faster than I can count, but does it in a way that makes you care about the characters. Keep up the good work!

This show is freaking awesome.

The intense counter-terrorist storylines are intelligent and involving, the stars are charismatic, the dialogue razor sharp. But most of all, this show has the most hard-hitting, authentic and exciting action sequences I've ever seen on TV. It's brutal.

Is like playing Call of Duty...

One of the main characters is an American working with the British and they are not MI6 agents more like a Brit version of a Seal team. I highly recommend this series for just pure action and fun.

This show is really great. A lot better than i thought it would be. Though i did love the original story best, it still has good actors and an interesting story.

Yay for more Strike Back, but I wish Cinemax could just supply the money and let Sky control the show b/c it was better when Cinemax wasn't involved. Also, once Armitage is done running around with hobbits, they should resurrect John Porter b/c Armitage is awesome. Just say the video was faked or something.

this is one of the few shows that i actually can't wait until the next episode turns up!

This show is everything I hoped the Expendables would be. The action is awesome, the actors are bad ass and it's all filmed on location in Africa and Europe. There are definitely times where they come up with Intel and the way in which they got it is a bit implausible but if you can suspend your disbelief it's absolutely worth it.

I only just got into it at the start of this season and everyone I've recommended it to is hooked. Cinemax needs to promote this a bit better.

This is for sure a highly recomendable series. Just one negative point: WTF happened to the original series story line? Can't understand why they cancelled that after just 6 episodes. The main character had a lot more depth than the two guys in the Cinemax version. In my opinion they could have mixed up the storylines a lot more, and build in a few more surprises along the way. Let's hope there will be in this re-newed season...

Unfortunately the main character in season 1, Richard Armitage, went off to play Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit and couldn't commit to Strike Back anymore

Yeah... it's okay. Plenty of cool action, though it's also highly unbelievable and implausible. Also - now that it's on Skinemax it's as if the actor that plays Scott has in his contract that he must have sex with at least one woman per episode. I'm a red-blooded male that likes guns, explosions, and sex, but even that seems way over the top for me.

It's something good to turn your brain off to, but don't try and look too deep into it.

Actually to be fair to the show, and Sullivan Stapleton (Sgt Damian Scott) he didn't have sex in the last episode!! Although that probably means the next one will have a threesome in it!!

Dude. Strike Back is amazeballs. If you like 90s action movies with lots of gratuitous nudity, swearing and violence then it's right up your alley. Also, Stonebridge and Scott are both bad asses. I was hooked from episode 1!!

TV.com needs to smarten up and get its staff to watch things before they comment on them. Had Tim simply reported on the show's renewal and not even given any passing criticism, I'd be fine, but that's not what happened.

Still, it's a great show, they're willing to shoot bad guys and not just be lame brain diplomats. Yet another cavalcade of awesomeness touched by Frank Spotnitz. That guy rules.

Agreed......Been a fan of Frank's work since his X-Files days. Keep an eye out for his latest series...."Hunted"....which I believe starts Oct 4 2012 on the BBC. This spy series stars Melissa George...and with Frank and the guys behind MI-5...this has got be half decent.

Yay more Strike Back. One of the best action shows on tv right now.

Tim I suggest you watch it as soon as possible. The stories are set with an overall arc but told in two episode subsets. I highly recommend you pay close attention to episodes 4,5,6,9, from the first season.

And as great as they were, season two (especially episodes 3 and 4) has been even better. Now if ass kicking (in all of its forms) is not your cup of tea, please avoid it since it's targeted towards action junkies and adults not afraid of sex.

I recommend this show to anyone I know who is into TV. It's a face melting, gut-punch of a show!

It's really easy to discount this show because it's on the ol skinimax, but it's currently the best action show on TV right now and I don't say that lightly. Every episode has awesome action sequences and the two leads have good chemistry. It's turned out to be one of my can't miss shows. Really good stuff.

Watching it since the original 1st season. If you want action & a little bit more. This show is for you. Season 1 was by far the best. Then they killed the hero in the 1st episode of season two. This current seaon is almost over but so far, very close to season 1 quality. Watch it.

Great show, well worth watching.

In fact it's one of the few TV shows I can get my husband to watch he's that fussy, so that must be saying something.

Plus, you can place the game of how soon Scott will get his rocks off, his best time so far was 11 mins into an episode. Pointless sex scenes, but just a little filler.

BEST ACTION TV SHOW EVER!!!!!!!

The first season was aaaaawesome!!! Season two relied too much on sex - boring. Season three is back to aaaaawesome and law and behold don't rely too much on naked bodies - which I actually don't mind asa nonreligious Swede being a child in the 70's. Strike Back seemed to use sex and naked bodies as an unneccessary story filler by writers who don't seem to believe in themselves. Check out the fantastic shows Mad Dogs, Kidnap and Ransom, MI5, Outcasts, Survivors. A really hilarious show is Vexed.

This show is awesome and is just as good as 24 was at its prime. It might also remind you of The unit, but The Unit jumped the shark when the wives started getting involved in missions. It might get a little bit cheesy but , the great acting and well choreographed action sequences makes up for that.

I've watched both the 'original' season and the new, Cinemax ones, and in my (humble) opinion it's worth watching. There's lots of action, the occasional sex scenes (still far less than certain episodes of GoT or True Blood), an underlying story arc and smaller, individual plot lines. All in all I'd say it's worth watching.

And, as small correction (although already pointed) out, it's about a part of British Intelligence, not MI6, and Damien Scott (played by Sullival Stapleton) is former Delta Force (also not MI6)

Similar to The Unit only replacing the wives with random sexual encounters and more gun play. It can come off a bit cheesy from time to time but ultimately delivers a throw back action movie feel that uses drama as a way to cram even more shootouts into the show.

@ Tim Surette Just as A Correction The show Is about The SAS which is Britsh Military. The show Is not about MI-6. The only character over the past Three seasons who is a former MI-6 agent is Major Rachel Dalton who is now SAS.

It's well worth a watch. Apart from the soft porn shoehorned in which seems only to be there to attract the knuckle draggers- it's pretty good. There's good chemistry between the characters and the action is satisfying. Yeah, I like it :)

Actually one of the main characters is supposed to be American, who happens to be played by a British actor.

Nope, he's australian and the one playing a british guy is american.

Renewed because Sullivan Stapleton is like the hottest dude on tv. Can I have this instead of Boardwalk Empire? And who subscribes to Cinemax?

that's a one good action show indeed. but the original series were way way better than the current ones. still, it's worth watching and highly recommended

Apart from explosions and bare breasts, Strike Back has nothing to recommend it. Pure fluff.
