Cinemax Renews Strike Back for Seventh and Final Season

It's not quite time to pour one out for Strike Back, your go-to series for adrenaline-fueled action, really great bromances and technically out-of-place but still great-looking shirts, but it will be soon. Cinemax has renewed the series, which is currently airing its sixth season, for a seventh and final season.

If this situation feels kind of familiar, it's because we've been here before, in 2015, when the pay cable network decided to move away from the action genre that initially put it on the scripted map and canceled the series after airing four seasons in the U.S. (there were five in total, but the first season was strictly a U.K. production). The news was kind of a bummer because Strike Back had established itself as one of the few series on TV regularly delivering incredible action.

However, in December 2016, it was revealed Cinemax was interested in returning to its roots and was reviving the series. We returned to the world of Section 20 without the likes of Sgts. Scott (Sullivan Stapleton) and Stonebridge (Philip Winchester); in their place was a new special ops team tasked with stopping a bunch of jerks from destroying the world, and the current iteration of the action-packed drama kicked off in the U.S. in 2018.

The series, a co-production with the U.K.'s Sky, currently stars Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Alin Sumarwata, Jamie Bamber, Yasemin Kay Allen and Varada Sethu. The Season 6 finale is scheduled to air Friday, March 29 at 10/9c.

However, Cinemax isn't abandoning action dramas again; Warrior, based on the writings of Bruce Lee, is set to debut in April. From Jonathan Tropper (co-creator of Cinemax's other great series with incredible action, Banshee), the series is set during the Tong Wars of San Francisco's Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century. So although it's a bummer to lose Strike Back yet again, it's nice to know Cinemax doesn't intend to deprive us of action altogether.

In a few years when Cinemax has nothing else worth watching, they'll bring it back a third time... calling it now.

According IMDB the current season is 7.
So I guess the 8th season wil be the last?

Technically its season 7 but in reality Silent War is season 6 for the US. This is because the original season, Chris Ryan's Strike Back, was a one and done in the UK. It then got picked up in the US and the first season was Project Dawn. And Digital Spy has a completely different version in that there is going to be a season 7 & 8, with 8 being the last!

The problem with that is that Cinemax aired the UK version too, years later, and stupidly called it "Strike Back Origins" when what they should have done is aired it leading into the "first" season in the US since it tied into it. But no, they needed to be ridiculous instead and act like it's a brand new show and mess up the season numbering. I prefer the way the UK seasons have subtitles, not just "season 1" or whatever.
