Comedy Central dev slate includes a gay robot

Comedy Central is all about the laughs, and a show about a gay robot is looking like comedy gold.

The cable network released its 2008-2009 development slate yesterday, and it includes projects from a range of comedians and celebrities, including former Late Night with Conan O'Brien sidekick Andy Richter, rapper Snoop Dogg, ex-In Living Color cast member David Alan Grier, and comedians Nick Swardson, Bobby Lee, and Zach Galifianakis.

The network has already ordered one project to series. Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire is a spoof on the fantasy genre that follows Krod as he avenges the death of his mentor. The live-action show is scheduled to debut in early 2009.

Snoop Dogg will star and produce in an animated show about his life growing up as a teenager in the LBC (Long Beach to you classical-music lovers). A pilot has been ordered for the untitled project.

Andy Richter (Andy Barker, P.I., Cabin Boy) returns with his own television show in a new untitled sketch-comedy program. The former Conan sidekick has made several guest appearances recently, including spots on 30 Rock, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Monk.

Comedian Nick Swardson (Reno 911, Blades of Glory) lends his voice to Gay Robot, an animated show about a...gay robot. In the toon, Gay Robot deals with postcollege life with his two friends.

Other projects include Zach Galifianakis' Speed Freaks, in which the husky comedian is on the run from the redneck mafia with costar A.D. Miles, MADtv's Bobby Lee sitcom about growing up in a multicultural world, a fake magazine-style news show from David Alan Grier, Mr. Show's Paul F. Tompkins horror-anthology spoof The Scariest Show on Television, and sketch comedy from The State's Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter.

Andy just needs to go back to Conan. I love the guy, but he just can't seem to carry a show.
