Comic-Con '09: Chuck Won't Give up the Fight

After nearly getting canceled at the end of last season, Chuck signed off with a cool finale that turned the title character into a fighting machine.

That introduced an interesting problem for the series, given that Chuck (Zachary Levi) is a wimpy big-box employee with a brain full of secret government downloads. Until the finale, he needed protection so the bad guys wouldn't kill him. Going forward, how will the show's writers handle a guy who can handle himself?

Well, as TV.com learned at the show's Comic-Con panel, Chuck's new-found fighting skills may suffer from a few glitches -- and thus still require the help of government handlers Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski).

"Appetite whetted!" producer Josh Schwartz proclaimed during the event. Schwartz also confirmed that Corina (Mini Anden) -- a DEA agent femme fatale who popped out of Sarah's past -- will return to the show, and that things will continue to heat up between Sarah and Chuck.

The panel joked and played with the audience, but the biggest cheers came when Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) rocked out as "Jeffster" -- an improvised a capella group formed the night before when Krinsky, Sahay, and Zach Levi broke out into song on an escalator at the Hilton.

That impromptu rehearsal certainly paid off during the panel performance.

The season two DVD of Chuck will be in stores on December 15. Season three will return sometime in 2010.

I am very excited to viewing the new season of CHUCK...it seems to me that you at least see them air the previous seasons episodes prior to the new season, which I have heard nothing about. I did read on NBC main site, on the information about the 2010 season of CHUCK that NBC did not sign them for a full season, but for only 9 episodes...hopefully another network will pick up & run past episodes, while we wait!

When "CHUCK" first aired, I noticed they also aired episodes on the sci-fi & Bravo cable stations. Because CHUCK is my #1 favorite program (Dexter, a close slightly #2 tie), I am greatly upset because as I read, they did not sign up 2010 CHUCK series for a full episode season...this is the GREATEST program this network has going...every single episode was excellent last season, with the last, giving viewers much to look forward to:) MY QUESTION: When (the EXACT DATE) will CHUCK air in 2010???

But I thought the creators said that the DVD set won't be out until early 2010? Nonetheless, I hope you are right, TV.com.

Yeah NBC almost pulled a FOX... cancel a good show for what reason I don't know. Still mad at FOX for canceling Firefly after just one season. Now there's no possibility of it ever coming back because they've all moved on. Think FOX should've been there to pick Chuck up if NBC had canceled it though.

@withoutcanseco Yes Jeffster was in a couple of Episodes I think Chuck versus the Mentor (Jeffster auditioning for Ellie and Awesome's Wedding) and I know for certain Chuck versus the Ring (Jeffster performing at Ellie and Awesome's Wedding to stall.)

Jeffster wasn't formed the night before. Wasn't it featured in a couple of episodes?

I'm kinda glad that he won't be the ultimate fighting machine. I mean, that is part of Chuck's charm, him being in way over his head. Making for some great comedic moments. Otherwise its just another spy show, isn't it.

So... Where exactly are you getting the information that that's when the DVD's out? I really hope that that's wrong because another (Nearly) 5 months! Crazy! (Wiki and Amazon don't have a release date though, so i hope they release it sooner)

I absolutely agree the third season needs to move ahead, if they retro it all its a big and possibly costly mistake.

I like that they really moved a lot forward when they thought they were about to be canceled. I just hope they don't take it all back, now there's another season, and have Chuck completely lose his new powers, have everyone return to the Buy More, etc.

Go Chuck! Don't give up the good fight. We're there for you, even though the "not so bright" folks at NBC are going to make us wait till January.
