Community: Yvette Nicole Brown Is Returning for the Finale

When Community wraps up its generally great sixth season, it will say goodbye with a familiar face. Yvette Nicole Brown, who played Bible-thumper Shirley on the comedy's first five seasons, will return as a guest star in the Season 6 finale. Brown left Community when the series moved from NBC to Yahoo! Screen in order to spend more time with her ailing father.

In addition to Brown, the Season 6 finale will also feature Seth Green in an undisclosed role. As for the plot, Abed (Danny Pudi) will ask everyone to imagine what a Season 7 TV show would look like. As Shirley would say, that's the show being "met-a."

The Season 6 finale, "Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television," airs Tuesday, June 2 on Yahoo Screen. Here's a video preview of the episode:

Are you excited for Shirley's return?

Loved the finale, I seriously hope it's not the last episode ever.

Is there any word on whether or not this is actually going to be a series finale? If Yahoo are serious about getting into the TV game then they need to keep Community and add to it with other rescued and new series or they'll return to obscurity.

Harmond is so obviously setting up the search for troy with Annie's move to the FBI, its the natural progression to the story, and should be set a couple of years ahead.

Troy's first comeback scene... He's seen "Captured" and doing his amazingly 7 year old, wail cry wah thing XD

Not really the cameo i would've asked for, but to be honest, i didn't really wish Troy to be back as a cameo this season either, not that i forgot them already, just didn't think it'd be fitting, i guess. Nevertheless, an amazing season, and they better be streets ahead and come back next season.

Oh she's nice . I was hoping for Troy, but I guess Shirley makes more sense. Pierce had a special presence on the show but Chevy Chase is a dick apparently, so screw him. Yeah this is alright. I love Community.

I really loved most of this season, and I'm very excited about Shirley coming back for the season finale. I hope the show gets renewed at least one more time!

You know, by some weird coincidence, Yvette starred in an ad promoting community college (in general) where she basically played Shirley....three or four years before Community began.

While I may have felt this season more uneven than other - I still loved it. Can't wait to Shirley return in this ep written by the great writing duo of Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna! Bring on Season 7! And the movie!

It will be nice to see Shirley again, even if it's only in the tag, like the first episode of the season. I'd like to know how things are going in her new job.

Troy and Abed in the morning, the blanket forts, the Shirley and Annie "Awwww", Pierce calling Jeff gay. I mean the shows good, but it just ain't the same. I miss those days, maybe this episode will back some of the past oomph.

I still hold the hope science can eventually eliminate death, as for Michael Bay? Death is the only hope of ending his explosions...

I am so excited for this episode, and yet I'm also very sad the season's almost over. It has been such a strong season IMO (though I can understand how some people may feel differently), which is especially surprising considering everything the show has gone through, most notably the cast changes. These last couple episodes have been especially strong, making me think they've been saving the best for last.

As Yvette returning, I'd be lying if I said she'd be my first choice for a return appearance (Troy!), especially since she's already made an appearance in the season premiere. But at the same time, she's very welcome on the show, whenever she can make the time. I'm also excited about Seth Green guest starring, and some people over on Reddit have said they recognize Justin Roiland's voice form the preview (which I haven't watched, and don't intend to), which is awesome.

I agree with you about this being a strong season. Personally, I think the show has really gotten back to what initially drew so many people in.

The only thing that puzzles me with Yvette Nicole Brown is...

Didn't she sign up to have a major / recurring part on the Odd Couple reboot?

Don't get me wrong, spending time with your ailing parent is probably in the top-3 unarguable reasons for leaving a job. But then why take another job? Unless the father took a turn, which would suck royally for her :-(

From what I understand, multi-camera comedies like The Odd Couple are much less time-consuming than single-camera comedies like Community. The Odd Couple allows her time to take care of her family, while still doing what she loves.

... Very disappointed that Donald Glover couldn't stop being a big baby for three seconds and show up to wrap up this thing.

Man, it would be uber nice if he ends up being a surprise cameo, but I ain't holding my breath.

In an interview he did a while ago, he says he would be willing to come back, but doesn't want to do it unless it makes sense from a story perspective, rather than it being forced because people want it. I don't think that's being a baby. As much as I love Troy and want see him return sometime, I actually agree it should be done respectfully, making sense for the character and the show.

Series finale... that's not a good enough reason for Troy to show up?

From what I've been hearing, from Dan Harmon, some of the actors, and even Yahoo themselves, there have been serious talks about making more Community, in one form or another. So even if they don't have another season, they could make a movie, or a few post-series specials. That would give them more of a chance to think of how to bring him back naturally, and give it the weight it deserves, rather than just a cameo in an episode.

I'm really really hoping for a Big Screen or even a small screen movie titled "Community - The Search for Troy".

Imagine all of the cast on a boat searching through rain forests and tropical islands for Troy and Lavar Burton's lost ship.

Man, I want this very very badly.

Dan himself has said the return of Troy is "something movies are made for".

Why, what's been going on with him?

I thought he left to do music? Which is a good enough reason in my book.

I honestly don't miss Shirley and nearly forgot about her. Troy was the hardest one to part with and it hasn't been the same but a much much improved show. Sad you guys aren't doing weekly reviews anymore. No idea why but oh well.
