Community's Three-Year Joke: "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" (VIDEO)

Remember when Community's Abed delivered a baby in the background of Season 2's "The Psychology of Letting Go" and we (read: "the internet") all went bonkers over it? Well, wait until you see this.

The following video includes clips from Season 1's "Communication Studies," Season 2's "Cooperative Calligraphy," and Season 3's "Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps." Beyond that, all you need to know, if you're not already familiar with the seminal 1988 comedy horror film Beetlejuice, is that if you say the titular ghoul's name three times, he appears. Watch closely.

Dang, those guys are good.

Dan Harmon is a god.

Obey his wishes and renew ANY SHOW HE WANTS until 2017... at the very least.

This comedy is ridiculous. Literally. Rock on and please let somebody at NBC give it more episodes. Maybe out of generosity to genius?

I'm more impressed by the person who recognized it as a three-year joke and found the scenes than by the joke itself.

OH MY GOD AHAHAHAH I freaking love this show! How can they almost be cancelled. Hmm if only there was a phrase that we could repeat three times to get NBC to get it's head out of it's ass...

Try Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! Then send him to NBC....!

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said, but if NBC continues to treat Community like an illegitimate step-child I think it's time for the show to start looking for a new foster home. I would be absolutely amazed if none of the other networks or cabel channels were chomping at the bit to take this on. Afterall, Remedial Chaos Theory was probably the best 22 minutes of TV entertainment this century.

This is why we need assassins people, imagine.

there's suddenly a wiff that they might cancel a show, and then an executive involved dies, a message is left next to the body that says "I dare you to cancel it", then if they do cancel it, they all die with a message that says "I warned you".

I could still be watching party down if this had been implemented before

now that's an idea for a show! "Showstoppers"

Haha, that's great.

You think if we say Community enough times, NBC will make it appear in January?

I don't know what's more amazingly brilliant: Dan Harmon's insane level of commitment to do a joke over the span of three seasons OR The diehard Community fan who spotted it and put this video on the web. This makes me sad all over again knowing Community isn't coming back in January. . . . I promised myself I wouldn't cry . . . .*begins sobbing uncontrollably*

It's just...so...HARD...I put so much effort into watching each episode for the background gags, the big pay off, the Inception-like cleverness of it all...and just so I can go without it for what will surely feel like an eternity.

I think there should be support groups for Community fans if the show never comes back.

You're absolutely right. It's sort of like Chuck, in that way - in terms of viewership, it was strong at first, but then it just decline. Regardless of wether a person likes or dislikes Chuck, you have to respect the fact that after years on the bubble it's getting a justifiable end after five Seasons. Community needs that backing if it is to go on, because people just aren't catching on. Or they're too dumb to keep up. Probably the latter.

I'm right there with ya buddy!

Doing something like this over three seasons is really great, but it's nothing compared to the level of detail in every single episode of Arrested Development, even if they never did something over such a long time.

That said, if Community continues for another season or so, it'll edge out AD as my favorite comedy of all-time.

Mind. Blown.

I can only conclude that Dan Harmon is far smarter than I am, which makes it a joy to watch his show. It is always fascinating to follow the work of people who are way smarter than me. I don't have to lower my standards, but instead I have to strive to raise my intelligens to the level of the show's.
