Continuum Season 2 Gets a U.S. Premiere Date, Moves to Fridays on SyFy

SyFy will continue feeding its budget-friendly habit of importing scripted Canadian TV with another round of Continuum, which aired its Season 1 finale in the U.S. last week. The network announced the Season 2 pickup today, along with a a premiere date: Friday, June 7 at 10pm.

The series, about a hottie cop from the future who time-warps to the present day to hunt down a group of anti-corporate terrorists, is produced by Canadian broadcaster Showcase, and was renewed by that network last August. Season 2 will run for 13 episodes and premiere in Canada on April 21, about two months ahead of its U.S. debut.

Note that the series will be switching timeslots in its return, as its Season 1 spot of Mondays at 10pm is now earmarked for Warehouse 13 (which returns for the second half of Season 4 on April 29). Continuum will pick up Fridays where Merlin leaves off; the wizard will wrap his five-season run on May 31.

From what I've gathered around these parts, ya'll seem to like Continuum quite a bit. But how many of you are familiar with the series because of SyFy, as opposed to learning of it through the internet/your Canadian friends? Will you be watching Season 2? And if so, will you be waiting to see it Stateside or "acquiring" it through other means?

I was excited to hear that Syfy picked up the Pilot and first season to continuum even after limited marketing to promote the series. As of yet have not heard if they will buy season 3. Don't know where the majority of you are from but here in the US when a show gets moved to a Friday spot it is usually the kiss of death before cancellation. Such was the case with Fringe, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Firefly, and Dark Angel to name a few. After watching the first and what has been broadcasted of the second season I am quite pleased. In my opinion the show is picking up steam and does have a lot to offer. I hope other viewers see it that way and stick around to get at least two more seasons...five and even more.

Syfy? Nooo... I was rather surprised today, when I saw that tv.com lists Continuum as a Syfy show. I hope the editors fix this soon.

watching it now on Netflix. I've heard of the show online before SyFy ever picked it up, and when I finished Season 1 I don't know whether or not I'll download the Season 2 episodes or wait til next month when it premieres on SyFy.

I heard about it through word of mouth as well; SyFy had nothing to do with it.

By the by, it's an excellent show -- well written, morally ambiguous -- and I look forward to seeing what they can do with season 2.

very happy to hear it..continuum has proven to be a great show, entertaining, suspenceful and well acted and executed...i have to say..while broadcast continues to mostly disappoint, cable has one great series after another...wonder why??? there is good wife, ncis and the ncis la,but i don't see them as much any more, elementary and supernatural..otherwise i look mainly at cable offerings and ther are a whole lot..hard to keep track of sometimes...there needs to be a sched with everything cable, with times etc...

I didn't realize that SyFy had picked this up! I'm quite happy that they're looking outside of the US for good programming. Showcase is an awesome network. Similar to USA/TNT networks here.

Found out about it online, LOVED IT (and, of course, Rachel Nichols, who is hotness personified!), and will be staying home on Fridays now for Season 2 ..... instead of wandering the streets!

'Cause, from the images, it just looks like it's about the hot girl who used to be on "Criminal Minds" in tight clothes. So, indulge me a little and tell me why should I watch?

Definitely try it! I've watched season 1 fully twice and I enjoyed it even more the second time. SOOOO happy they renewed and that Season 2 will be here soon.

I'll probably rewatch season 1 a THIRD time.

Excerpts from my review of the show I wrote 9 months ago:

Short version: Put doubts aside and give this show a chance.
Why?

Conclusion
There is definitely a show worth watching and supporting. It's not cheesy or unrealistic and themes will keep you intrigued.

1) The premise is intriguing.
Near-future social apocalypse is not a new theme but the timing of this show is excellent. Many plot lines will hit close to home. Terrorism, privacy, freedom, corporate power, and government suppression are all current issues that have been blended well in the show.

2) Very cool near-future tech
It remains to be seen how long budget will allow producers to present more of the cool tech we saw in the first few episodes but the creators have done a great job taking existing tech and working theories and turning them into viable near-future tech.

3) The "bad guys" are very interesting and many viewers (and perhaps some of the characters) may find themselves questioning what is good and what is evil.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! I thought I might be the same old thing, but your review made me want to give a try!

Well, this is easy...one: because oodles of people find that it's really fun to watch & two: if you had no interest in the show to begin with, you wouldn't look for a reason to check it out by asking if you should watch. The absolute worst that could happen is that you hate it & loose only 46 minutes or less of your life that you'll never get back...or at best, you like it, stick with it for an entire season & loose 10+ hours of your life that you'll never get back.

It's all up to you.

Season 1 of Continuum was a fun ride. I'm thankful that Syfy is still importing shows (they ran anime back in the 90's) and I'll watch any good science fiction they put on. Glad we don't have to wait the full year for Season 2 to start!

This show was very good and shows the potential to get better. Rachel Nichols, playing a mother torn from her young family and being completely out of her element and alone is really compelling to watch. I think "Kiera" is a bit more than complex than "hottie cop from the future". Its a good drama that doesn't treat its audience like they're dumb. Good cast, interesting characters. Watched it when I saw it was the same channel that produces "Lost Girl", another really well produced (on what cannot be an enormous budget), well cast show with a female hero. Maybe its that simple, US networks are still terrified of female lead shows. Syfy needs programmers like this that are producing great scripts; not reality and video games. (I think Amanda Tapping may be channelling all of her anger towards her experience at this network, that ran her show out the door without even giving it an ending, in her performance on "Supernatural" this year.) Definitely sticking with it.

I don't know exactly what attracted me to this show, but I actually really liked it (and I know people think it was uneven, but in comparison to the early part of Being Human and most of Lost Girl this season, it was on a single mission the whole season). I will wait until it comes on SyFy because when Merlin leaves, there is nothing recording on my DVR at 10 on Friday nights until Haven makes its appearance (and that one I am anxious for its return, so it is good to have a show I like as a stop gap).

Being Dutch, we get Syfy but an even weaker version then you have with almost only reruns of old shows. I do not always mind that, but I do mind we don't get the new shows.

I picked it up when brosing the internet for new (SF) shows on tv and watched it directly after it aired in Canada I'm not "Stateside", so there's no problem..... I'll do the same with season 2 and I'm looking forward to it.

I first heard about Continuum through GetGlue. GG had stickers for the show's original broadcast in Canada. I looked the show up on Wikipedia to see what it was exactly.

I really liked season one, so, yep, I'll be watching season two on Syfy this summer.

If it wasn't for SyFy, I wouldn't have known or got interested. And I always hear a lot of SyFy haters, but I think they're more like ingrates because it brings more shows and options that wouldn't be available it the channel didn't exist. To me, it's the equivalent of people that say SNL is crap or those that hate or don't own a TV then enjoy clips from them on YouTube or through Netflix or downloads. Whatever, I'll still enjoy like I did with Stargate, BSG, Merlin, ... original or imported and be thankful for SyFy.

I liked it and will tune in for S02. I'm not a fan of SyFy but will probably watch via DVR as it airs US. I hate it when serialized sci-fi gets pushed to Fridays. The core demographic of the audience is the least likely to be sitting about on Friday night watch television.

I'd be interested in seeing Amazon pick up rights to more Canadian, British and other foreign programming. Hulu had the 1st couple of seasons of ReGenesis available when I signed up after moving back to the US, and I loved that show. I'd like to see some of the titles produced by Sky and Channel 4 in Britain made available (as well as more of what the BBC and BBC 3 airs available on BBCA, you know, rather than all those Star Trek: Next Generation reruns).

I heard a lot of good buzz about it before SyFy even started airing it, plus I've liked Rachel Nichols ever since the late, lamented FOX show, The Inside (sniff!). In short: I saw it months ago, SyFy played no part in my interest.

Found it by happenstance when browsing new shows, thought the name was interesting and looked it up... I like it, even when it seems to get confused with what it's doing.
Since I'm not "Stateside", I'll be watching it pretty much like I watch everything else. :)

I'm an old-school sci-fi geek, meaning, I luvs mah sci-fi, but I've seen so much of it that most genre shows nowandays suffer from the "Meh! I've seen it all before" handicap. I learned about this show from this site & marathoned the season prior to its syfy airing. It's not the best sci-fi show by any stretch, but I loved every episode. Warts and all. I spent more time enjoying the story than nit-picking over asinine details (as we geeks are prone to do) That in and of itself puts the show high on my watch list.

That said, I'll be downloading the Canadian eps each week as they go along. I wouldn't piss on the Syfy network if they were on fire. They're simply worthless & don't deserve my viewership

I'm from Brazil, so no matter where it airs, I'll have to download it the same way, so I might just as well download it right after it airs in Canada. But at least with it being aired in the US, it'll get some coverage by this website. I just wish you guys had continued with the reviews.
