Poor Travis (Dan Byrd). He decided where he was going to college on last night's episode of Cougar Town, "Letting You Go," and his mother, Jules (Courteney Cox) still upstaged his big life decision by making a compulsive one of her own. After dropping Travis off to spend some time on his new campus, Jules returned home... and into the arms of Grayson (Josh Hopkins)?! Wait, what is going on?
I don't mean to say that I didn't expect it. These two have been playing the URST card since day one, and their chemistry is fantastic. The hookup was inevitable. But why now, with a few episodes still left in the season? What happens next? Aren't sitcoms supposed to be way more predictable? I imagined Jules and Grayson each on separate dates in the season finale, then each returning home alone, then it starts raining, and then they kiss in the middle of the cul-de-sac. Or maybe I'm just cynical when it comes to network sitcoms forgoing proven formulas.
I should give Hopkins some credit for telling me that the hookup wouldn't be a huge deal. He was totally right—the moment was both incredibly satisfying and anti-climactic. But I still don't know what to make of it.
What did you think of the episode? And what do you think will happen between Jules and Grayson?
