Countdown to How I Met Your Mother's Series Finale: The Best of Robin Scherbatsky

Even though How I Met Your Mother is technically the story of Ted Mosby and how he first encountered the woman who bore his children, without Marshall, Lily, Barney, and Robin as supporting players, the series would simply be a collection of Ted's most pretentious moments, interspersed with sweet romantic gestures toward all the wrong women. Without Robin to tell him when he's being a douche, or without Barney roping him into harebrained schemes, who knows how Ted's life might've turned out! Each of How I Met Your Mother's core characters has played a pivotal role not only in Ted's life, but in the series overall. So as the end of the show inches closer, we've decided to relive some their funniest and most memorable moments. We've already brought you the best of Marshall,  Lily, and Barney, but now it's time to go to the mall with everyone's favorite Canadian, Robin Scherbatsky!

Cobie Smulders' Robin is one hell of a lady. The news anchor and recent newlywed enjoys drinking scotch, shooting guns, smoking cigars, and using the phrase "but um" when she's on the air. We've known since How I Met Your Mother's pilot that Robin is "Aunt Robin" and not the Mother, which has at times frustrated viewers who wanted Ted and Robin to stay together after seeing them date in Season 2, while simultaneously angering others who believed the series shouldn't've wasted so much time on their doomed relationship. But Robin has long been an integral part of the gang, despite being the last one to join. Over the course of the series, she spoke her mind and told Ted when he was being a douche, she became Lily's best friend, she bonded with Marshall over cold weather and sports, and she eventually fell in love with Barney, who appreciated her distinct level of bro. But one of Robin's greatest assets was that we never knew what "secrets" might discover about her, from her past as a teen pop star in Canada to her stint as Night Falcon (seriously, WHAT WAS THAT?) to what she was hiding in her purse. Robin had a life before the gang, and although we never really saw much of her other friends, she was definitely the most independent member of the group. Her greatest achievement will probably always be her alter ego Robin Sparkles (not so much Robin Daggers), but that's really only one of many things I love about her. And speaking of the many things I love about Robin, here are my absolute favorites:

Her love of scotch and cigars

When her Canadian is showing

That time she was still drunk from last night

That time she made a joke about everything I/we love

(via)

Those times Barney dared her to say ridiculous stuff on TV

Night Falcon

Her love of Patrice

Robin Sparkles, OBVIOUSLY

Robin Sparkles rules! Let's go to the mall - today! I swear that song is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. While I would pick Alyson Hannigan over Cobie Smulders anyday (sorry but Alyson is awesome) - Robin Scherbatsky is definitely first pick over Lily. What's not to love about that woman! ~ Semperdivina.com

I'm so glad "Robin Screaming at Patrice" made this list! :) It does get a bit old when you see it in a compilation video like that, but it's still so funny! It's gotta be the way Cobie does it... Sigh. I really like Robin; I'm gonna miss her. And Barney, of course.

Robin screaming at Patrice is always funny, like you say there's just something about the way Cobie Smulders does it that makes it work.

Does anyone know if Robin invited Glitter to the wedding? She was her best friend in Canada...

I dunno what it is, but there isn't a single thing here that endears me to Robin. I guess Robin has become wallpaper paste on the show.

The Symphony of Illumination's "I'm glad you guys aren't real" speech to her imaginary children.

She wasn't glad, she was devastated and I could feel it all the way through the screen when those kids faded away.

Night Falcon--we can only assume that an old acquaintance of Robin Sr. from his days with "the Company" recruited her for a mission exploiting her Japanese, Russian, or Argentinian contacts...

In S04E23 when Robin says to Ted, "You got Tony to dump Stella? I am very sorry but I am going to have to insist that you bump this!"

I have to say, when the show started I wasn't much of a fan of Robin, mainly because she was just 'the girl the guy wanted' (the guy being Ted), and even though I really liked her relationship with Ted, I feel she really became a character on her own after the break up. From that moment I find her funny and just awesome. And Barney was right, she's the most awesome girl. No wonder he fell in love with her.

If I have to pick my favorites moments Robin Sparkles is in the top, yes, including Robin Daggers. Also, there's this little moment in S8 in the episode when she realizes being engaged makes her invisible, she tells Marshall she doesn't speak virgin whe he made a parallel between being engaged and to wear the one ring from LOTR.

But my favorite thing about her is that she was truly a bro. I want a friend like her.

Ted I can believe, as he's a bit of a downer. I mean, I know the show centers on his story, but if his friends weren't around, HIMYM would be a very different show.

I know it seems that way, but the other characters are just so awesome, that Ted and Robin are the 4th and 5th most awesome.

I know, I know, initially I didn't even want to vote because I love them all in their own way... well, except maybe Barney who I used to really like but then gradually started to despise, which is weird because he was supposed to go through a sort of redeeming character development arc but for me it was never believable...

Anyway, I just find it sad that so many people seem to have gotten tired of Ted by the end, because he's always been my favourite :) But I understand and respect all opinions of course. It's hard to choose just one when you have such a great group of characters.

Ted has become the most cliche, most boring, most thin-written character on the show in the last 4 years or so. He has become singularly motivated, and it makes him dull.

I also usually get a hoot out of the tomboy Robin we see in the flashbacks with her father. Playing hockey, survival weekend with a swiss-army knife against a pack of wolves, etc.

Also, her pet dog that had the "experimental surgery" that made it forget its old tricks. And made it look like a tortoise :-)

Being Canadian, I love [almost] any time Canadian things are referenced on the show, but I will always love Robin for delivering one of the funniest and most accurate (at least it feels like it) lines with reference to the weather:

"For the one week we dated...."
"I thought you said you dated him a whole summer?"
"Oh, I did. Summer only lasts one week in Canada."

Other highlights for me have been:

- When she purposely said 'but um' as many times as possible once she knew about the drinking game
- Robin Sparkles, of course!
- When she becomes Barney's 'bro' and they have an awesome laser tag game
- When she and Lily were camped out in front of the wedding dress store and the alarm was going off
- When they went to the gay bar

Mostly, I've always loved her friendship with Lily most.
