Cowabunga, Dude! Watch the Trailer for Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie (VIDEO)

To be honest, when the following trailer first came across my virtual desk, I thought it was a joke. In fact, I'm still not entirely convinced that it isn't a joke. Michael Bay, master of explosions and killing all of my childhood memories, is about to release a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie starring Megan Fox as April O'Neil. Like, it's bad enough you've destroyed Transformers for me, Michael Bay, but now you also want to make me turn against Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, too?

I have a lot of thoughts and questions about this new film, which hits theaters August 8. The most important one being this: Will Vanilla Ice be appearing in it? And will he perform his mega-super-awesome hit song "Ninja Rap"? In case you've forgotten the song in question, it's the one with the catchy chorus of, "Go ninja, go ninja, GO!" Look, I've even embedded it here for you:

The rest of my thoughts and questions include:

– Remember the awesomeness of the cartoon theme song?

– I wonder whether I can find copies of the three films made in the '90s...

– Megan Fox? Seriously?

It's not that I don't want a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film—in fact, I'm totally going to see this—but I've been burned by Bay before. I'm worried he's going to taint my childhood memories again. Either way, check out the first official trailer and then decide whether or not you approve of this madness:

Whaddaya think? Will you see go see this movie? Is Megan Fox as April a horrible decision? And most importantly, which turtle is your favorite?

This movie is going to be awesome! I don't know why everyone thinks it needs to be the 90's turtles version otherwise it's gonna ruin everything! The very first ever teenage mutant ninja turtles weren't anything like the 87 turtles and the ONLY reason they made them like that was so little kids could watch the show! Well I'm not a little kid anymore and I want the real deal teenage mutant ninja turtles for who they truly are! No more sugar coating them and no more soft pansy joke turtles! The original bad ass, butt kicking teenage mutant ninja turtles! That's who tmnt are not the stuff from the 80's or the joke that's on nick today! Those are NOT the turtles! And it's quite sad really that a lot of people can't accept that nor do they even really know them cause they never read any of the original comics! So with that said, I hope to god that Michael bay brings in the real deal turtles! And by the looks of it he kinda did!! "City at war"! Know your stuff people before you start judging!

Who's going to be Shredder? Megan Fox she'll do for eye candy. Let's hope it's a one-off rather than Michael Bay's fondness for trilogies.

Donny was my favorite until the new show where they had him in love-love with April, so now it's Leo.

I remember the cartoon's theme, I just didn't remember it holding up so poorly over the years. And yet it launched Chuck Lorre's TV career (he wrote the theme).

Yeah, Megan Fox as April O'Neil is seriously the stupidest casting.

I am not going to see this, it looks horrible. The Shredder and April's dad made the turtles intentionally. The turtles' faces are hideous. They are gigantic instead of short.

Why can't people write their own damn stuff anymore instead of stealing stuff from the past and making a whack job of it?!?! TV and Movies.

I still refuse to see his Transformers. C'mon Bubblebee isn't even a VW Bug. As far as I am concerned the only Transformers movie is the one with HotRod and Unicron.

And now this?!?!!? April O'Neil isn't a redhead, Splinter is non-existent, who knows what they did to Shredder and the Turtles did not become TMNT without the help of radioactive ooze.

And you so know there won't be any awesome catchy songs from it like this:

Hell I didn't even watch the TMNT reboot shows.

But the question is, will Leonardo get to lead this time?

Clearly you don't follow the attributes of your moniker. The TMNT first comic I had her hair was red. And say her hair was black in the first issue, she then dyed it and kept it red for years on after. Furthermore it doesn't excuse the change of races of characters.

Look I came into this movie with low expectations. I am a huge Turtles fan. I will admit I was kinda impressed a little bit. The trailer looks serious not too funny. I want to see the official trailer when it comes out to get more action. The Turtles are gonna need to get use to. They are not great looking, but they are not horrendous either. I still don't like Megan Fox though. Still a bad choice on that.

April O'Neil needs to be a red head. She is a hero of the red heads, up their with Merida, and Black Widow. Also I love Donatello, he's the best.

Well as a kid April O'Neill was one of those cartoon girls I had a "crush" on (if you can call it that). So it makes perfect sense to have one of the hottest women in the world play her.

I'm just skeptical about those CGI monstrosities as the Turtles always where a lot about a good time and fun to me, more than being bad-ass ninjas. Had some hope though in the end when Michelangelo tells her that it's just a mask. We'll see when it hits theaters I guess.

Yeah, of course this is going to be a good film, a very pretty film with loads of money thrown at it, but not a good turtles film, the origin is just silly I think I preferred Bays other one (if it had to be changed at all) the ooze was from space anyway.

That was the special thing, they were made by accident, come on, if you were making heros you probably wouldn’t use turtles anyway you’d use lions, tigers or something, and the whole plot from the comic is gone, no fugitoid, no federation or triceratops which could have been great in live action/cgi.

And Fox, well O'Neil was actually black in the original comic book in 1984.. go figure, but still that's a cast for "Sex Sells" forget everything else, just another shallow money making movie, or course we forget about the original origin story that made the turtles icons in the first place.Well, we shall all see in August!

I didn't mind the first Transformer because it still felt like a kid movie and optimus prime voice made me feel like home. The sequels... yeah, that was bad.
So... they changed the origin story? I really don't like when they do that and Kaitlin I have the VHS boxset of the TMMT (but in French and my VCR has been MIA for 15 yrs) with the new movie it would be out on Netflix soon enough. I watched these movies at least 20 times each with my younger brothers. It was fun, innocent and the turtles didn't look creepy. Why do they have to be CGI? they could have just made better ones, we didn't mind then. It's about how the other actors respond to the "puppet" to make us believe that it's a giant turtle with ninja skills.
That trailer was too dark for the spirit of the TMMT, is that another end of the world/ city/country plot? For once could they just keep it simple! The end was funny but these turtles are scary! Megan Fox as April, the original April (from TMMT 2 and 3) could still fill in she looks great in Person of Interest ;)

It could've been worse. According to the leaked script from last year we could have had alien turtles, "General Schraeder" the military man, and a bumbling Casey Jones as the main character. Compared to that, I can take this.

What's so depressing about this—unlike Transformers, which I watched as a kid, but hasn't held up as a property in any medium—is that TMNT really could be an excellent movie. The 1990 original feature film really wasn't all that bad, it just didn't have the FX technology to really pull it off. And it was very 1990!

Last year, comic artist Ibrahim Moustafa released this sketch. It nails it! The new movie looks a little neon in the color palate.

No doubt. And I guess the same could be said of me with the Bay production, but I would hope that the people who put all that effort into these adaptations would want their version to hold up over time. If you make a good movie and tell a good story, it'll have legs and ultimately the complainers can shut it. (Remember all the people who whined about Christian Bale as Batman?) Bay's looks like it's pandering and doing it badly. I hope to be wrong, but I don't have much faith.

Transformers is several really good comic book series right now from IDW, especially the ongoing pair of books - "Robots in Disguise" and "More than Meets the Eye". Also, I'd argue the second season of the original cartoon holds up pretty darn well, and Transformers Animated was excellent.

Reboots are like cover songs. The original is always better. There are some exceptions though like video killed the radio star. Killer cover but the music world was skeptical. We 25 doubted batman begins, Christian bale as batman, heath as joker. We all feared for the worst. But we were wrong. Bay on the other hand not so promising like snoop covering Metallica- it happen, it was bad!
This one will be interesting. I'll give it a go, but I won't expect much. Can it beat the 89 film, most likely not. Is it better than the live action tv show, most likely. We'll see how good or bad it is when it's out

To answer your questions:
Yes (the original TMNT theme will always be my fav)
My aunt actually got me the trilogy box set for Christmas 09 I think?
And yeah I'm still asking myself the same thing.

Meanwhile, the trailer did nothing for me which is really disappointing, not to say I hated it but yeah it wasn't anything "WOW!" about it. April is miscast, Shredder is white, no Casey Jones, just kind of meh about it really.

Oh and and the TMNT 1990 film will always reign supreme! Judith Hoag may be Tandy James now, but she'll always be April O'Neil to me!

Why does Michael Bay have to add that "Bwaamppppp" sound to every movie he does now? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles doesn't need to have all these special effects. A TMNT movie can be made pretty simply.

There are three things this movie only needed:

(1) Pizza
(2) Ninjas
(3) Brotherly love

So far, it hasn't delivered (1) and (3). (2) is pretty much a given.

The reason why the first live action movie was so good, especially in the eyes of a kid, was because they made it into this grungy, rebellious hodgepodge of late 80s/early 90s angst and fears. Shredder was recruiting teens to join his crime syndicate on the idea that they weren't loved. In contrast, you had Splinter who genuinely loved his sons and was like that grandparent you didn't want to disappoint. Aside from the action scenes, there was also some great character development.

One of the few scenes I loved about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a scene from after the fight in April's apartment. In the scene, we get to see April's perspective of the Turtles. We see them as brothers who deeply care about the other. Leo ends up sleeping by his brother Raphael's side through day and night hoping he'll wake up from his injuries.

If you watch the video, it's a little bit after Casey and Don fix the truck.

The scene sheds light on a pretty great dynamic between Raphael and Leo. Even though they may differ ideologically, they genuinely love each other. This is what I want to see from the upcoming movie.

Now, I feel like re-watching this old movie. ;)

I had actually been looking forward to seeing this until I saw the trailer. I'll wait for it to hit the Redbox to watch it. Megan Fox is a bad choice to play April...as bad as Amy Adams as Lois Lane. My favorite turtle is Michaelangelo. He's a fun guy!

TMNT really is a great franchise. It's so fun for me to watch my 2.5 year old enjoy the same things I did. Megan Fox as April? Nooooooo no no no terrible casting decision. April is supposed to be a pretty girl-next-door type, not a drop dead gorgeous bombshell type. My favorite turtle? Donatello, of course!
