CSI: Life after Grissom

The Season 10 premiere of CSI airs tonight with some major story lines to work out. Unlike its spinoff shows (CSI: Miami and CSI: NY), the Las Vegas team isn't in the middle of a hot case. The department is still dealing with last season's departure of beloved colleague Gil Grissom (William Petersen), who left to find his love interest and ex-CSI Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), who left the team in Season 8. Sara will return to the lab for a few episodes this season -- without Grissom, whose decision to leave the lab last season left the crew fragmented. (Fans also expressed disappointment about the direction the show might take.) Tonight's new episode firmly establishes Dr. Raymond Langston (Laurence Fishburne) as a member of the team, and Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) as the boss of the crime lab.

CSI's Season 10 opener begins with a freeze-framed moment of panic as the crime lab is attacked by armed men. The story begins at the end, then flashes back to the beginning -- when the team finds their hands full after a celebrity dies in a car crash. In an effort to heal the wounds left by Grissom's departure, the episode focuses on the development of a cohesive crew with Catherine at the helm. It may not be the team we're used to, but after nine years, we're hoping a little shakeup won't hurt.

Season 10 Sneak Peek:

when grissom and warrick left, the shows writing and scripts
have been awful and insulting to the intelligence.
Although laurence fishburne is a good actor, he was never
a good fit to the show or the writers quit. The show is "dumb" and sensationalized like csi:miami. Its almost
as though everyone is trying to ride this thing out and cash
a paycheck as long as they can till the show is cancelled.
Now to add insult to injury they add Ted Danson. Next they will kill him off and add Mike Myers or even Will Ferrell. I predict this show will be cancelled this year if not the only thing keeping it afloat is the "Jerry Springer" audience type viewers.

Sometimes, a show should just let go. The departure of the substantive cast signaled that; the return of Sara just buried it...

CSI jumped the shark long before Grissom left IMHO. It only got worse after season 6 or maybe it just lost its freshness with all these other shows around having almost the same premise and I'm not just talking about the CSI franchise.

I can't wrap CSI into my mind without Grissom. With him the entire cast melded just as a family does, and Grissom was the glue that held the entire crew together. Like the father of a large family he was the one character that had something to offer to every/any characters storyline. It worked extremely well, and the show capitalized on that feature so much that now that Grissom is gone the family seems irretrievably fractured. I truly doubt they can fix this without his returning.

I sure miss Grissom but Laurence Fishburn is a phenomenal actor in movies, on stage, tv shows. very good replacement. now find also one for warwick

the show prettymuch died when grissom left. and sarah returning is stupid. she suddenly wants back in yeah whatever. thye still need to hire 2 more csi's one to replace warrick and one to replace the blonde chick that just left. riley i think?

wont be watching. without grissom its no good. csi miami and csi ny are great though.

  • naldro

I'm also hoping Jorja Fox's return means that things didn't workout between Sara and Grissom; that's when the show turned for me.

  • naldro

Grissom's departure is this show jumping the shark. It doesn't feel the same.

Can't wait to see it. I will miss Grissom's character, but the writers of this series are much better than the other 2 CSIs. I can't predict who-done-it like the others ones. with CSI NY I could do it before the opening credits ran, it was sad

  • wrachel54

I'm going to watch, and I hope I'm going to be proved wrong, but so far its been a disappointment without Grissom.

  • LadyInque

I agree without Grissom its "another" Tv show but its still good...

    XO XO

    :):):):)

  • moonlightenvy

I'm excited Jorja Fox is guest staring soon

  • neomichel

I am looking forward to seeing it!

  • sweetsaintz

It's not the same without Grissom.

  • mcatrage

The original CSI ended when Grissom left. It's just another spin off now.
