Cupid getting another shot at TV love

Rob Thomas went from twiddling his thumbs waiting for an answer to the busiest man in Hollywood in only a few hours.

Yesterday, the Veronica Mars creator was asked by the CW to write and help produce a contemporary remake (or in Hollywood lingo, "re-envisioning") of the 1990s teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210.

Not too long after that news broke, ABC decided to pick up another of his projects--a second chance for his 1998 comedy Cupid.

The show was well-received during its time, but never made it past its initial half-season order. Emmy Award-winner Jeremy Piven (Entourage) starred as Trevor, a man who believes he's Cupid and must fix the problems of couples on Earth so that he may gain access to Mount Olympus and begin sipping ambrosia and living the good life. The catch? He lost all his mythological abilities. The other catch? He may just be a normal guy who is missing a few screws.

ABC has asked for a pilot of the new version of Cupid, which had been in development at the network for some time. It's unclear who will be cast and how tightly the show will conform to its predecessor.

The new Beverly Hills, 90120 is being fast-tracked by the CW, and no date has been announced for Cupid.
