CW building Melrose Place

The long gestating Melrose Place remake finally has a due date. The CW has ordered a pilot for the new take on the 1990s primetime soap, and has attached Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) to direct.

Details on the new Melrose Place (currently it's keeping the original name, but that could change to make it appeal to the current generation) are still under wraps, but if 90210's carbon-copy of Beverly Hills, 90210 is any indication, it won't be too different than its source material.

Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin, most recently of Smallville, have been appointed Melrose Place's showrunners.

The original Melrose Place was itself a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210, and centered on the trysts that went on at and around an apartment building in Los Angeles.

What would you like to see in the new Melrose Place?

I'm liking the casting so far with Katie Cassidy and that dude from Greek and Sisterhood of the traveling pants. Although there is Ashlee Simpson hmm...hope she will take some acting classes.

The next show that should get a reboot is 21 jump street. They can get Holly Robinson Pete to play the new Captain or Peter Deluise. And get a new crew of young hip kids to play undercover cops. They can even call the show Jump Street.

Great now I can just hope that in about 5 years The CW will start making spin-off of Buffy, Charmed and other 1990s shows, that seems to be their trend!

You have to be kidding! (of course I hope this remark is not in violation of the TOS on tv.com where you can't apparently criticize CW or its fans without being considered a troll... if it is then YAAAY, yet another idiotic series revived!)

So will this version actually feature a diverse cast????? Or is that a pipe dream of folks of different races living in the same building.

Firstly, priveleged better come back. point blank. Second, i always liked Melrose Place better then 90210, just personal choice. They need to do it right, make it just as crazy and outlandish as the orginal, but even then, it might suck, because melrose place was sucessfull due in part to the the fact that it was the 1990's and the actors who were on the show. the new 90210 is alright, but its not great, i do watch it though, but privileged is definitely better. and btw, i lost faith in the cw from the minute it began. WB rocked

Only good news as long as they pick up Privileged for a second season.

I lost faith in the CW a long time ago and this is just another reminder of why. Remaking shows like 90210 and Melrose Place is almost as bad as letting shows like Smallville run for 8+ seasons. Like do we honestly need another teen drama? Im pretty sure the answer to that is clearly no, if you are going to bring back an old show why not try a show that no one remembers at least then The CW can pretend to have a bit of originality left in its dying bones.

Seriously?? When are they going to make a spinoff of Gilligan's Island? Why don't they come up with something new and fresh, instead of waking old shows from the dead....

If the CW cancels the charming and well-written Privileged to make room for some Melrose Place remake junk, I will officially lose my faith in humanity . . . or at least my faith in the CW.

I just hope it goes well from the beginning. 90210 started off bad but it is getting good. I just hope people like it because they expect to like it. I can't wait to know who the cast is and to watch it.

They need to cast some sexy(but talented) actors and have dark, campy stories just like the original. Based on the character descriptions alone, this show will have all that and more.

Hopefully they won't make MP into that crappy S1 after school special. They need to make MP have even more scandals and conflict to attract viewers. I'm so EXCITED!

I'm just waiting for an even bigger bang!!!
