The CW network has extended the lives of two of its shows, college detective Veronica Mars and teen drama One Tree Hill. Both shows have been given orders for three more episodes apiece.
Mars has held steady since its third-season premier in October, matching its series-best ratings and retaining much of its Gilmore Girls lead-in. At the TCA in July, show-runner Rob Thomas said he was "acting like man who had been given a full season order."
Hill has seen ratings growth this season, retaining almost 90 percent of its America's Next Top Model lead-in teen audience. The show beat Fox's The O.C. last week in adults 18 to 49, with a 1.6 rating/4 share and has improved 14 percent in the demo compared to last year.
Both Mars and Hill had been on the bubble when The WB and UPN merged into The CW in the spring. Fans breathed easy when they both made the cut to the new network, but the CW hasn't broken out in the ratings as had hoped, and the shows aren't out of the woods yet.
The CW was expected to reap the rewards of having the combined fans of the highest-rated shows from each of the former networks. Instead, the new net pulls in about the same exact amount of viewers as either of those networks did by themselves.

I LOVE ONE TREE HILL...ive watched it since day one...i bought the 1st three seasons and im waiting for the 4th to b available to buy..i even bought the soundtrack...even my 13 yr sister loves this show and im so excited for it to come back...although crappy that loser K-fed will b a character in it...but hey..nothing will stop me from watching that show..its the greatest..id hate to see it cancelled like Hidden Palms which again also really sucks that was a great show..im hoping they keep Gossip Girl and not cancel it either...
There needs to be more seasons of One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars.I'd love for Dan Scott to finally get whats' coming to him for murdering his brother Keith.Lucas will be the one to get proof against Dan.

I LOVE One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars and if they get canceled I'm going to be pissed.... especially because it seems you trake off good shows and put on bad ones, if you take off these shows i think you will loose more viewers!!!
Smart move CW! You know what would be even smarter? GIVING BOTH OTH AND VM ANOTHER SEASON ON YOUR NETWORK! I've been a fan of One Tree Hill since it first started, and I've only started watching VM this past season. I always heard how good it was from all the critics, but it got in the way of one tree hill, so i chose the show i usually watched. thats why i was pleased when VM got the greenlight to be in the CW lineup right after Gilmore Girls (i show i was watching at the time). So i began watching VM and slowly started losing interest in Gilmore Girls... BUT I GOT HOOKED ON VERONICA MARS! I even recently bought and watched both season 1 and 2! cancelling either one of these shows would a huge error in judgement for the CW. unless they want to gamble with a huge portion of their viewers, they better do the smart thing and give both oth and vm another season! the answer is better marketing NOT CANCELLATION!!!
all i know is if either of these shows are cancelled, i'm done with the CW (and i know i won't be the only one)!

Superb! Veronica Mars is a wonderful show - has everything needed to keep my interest, so I am really happy to see it. Good job with this one, and my oppinion is that VM is much better than most of the shows we see recently. Keep it going and good luck! :)
I love OTH. I've watched it from the beginning and it is one of the best shows out there. I rented the first season from the library and got my entire family hooked on it. Glad to see that it has been extended 3 more episodes. CW pleeeeease keep OTH on the air.
I love One Tree Hill & Veronica Mars. I never knew about the show Veronica Mars until after watching Gilmore Girls and discovered this show. Veronica Mars is an awesome show.

It's great to hear the VM was extended. In Australia this is shown at 10pm on a Friday night! And they wonder why the typical viewer isn't up to watch!
OTH is def my ultimate favorite show... I'm can't express how happy I am that they are extending the season. They need to extend it even more then 3 episodes. They better never end OTH!!!!

The CW is really off to a rocky start here. First they cancel Everwood, arguably one of the best shows on tv. Now they are wavering on Veronica Mars, which IS the best show on tv. They keep horrible shows like America's Next Top model and 7th Heaven on but they'll only give VM a lousy 16 eps?? That show deserves not only 3 more eps but several more seasons all together.
one tree hill! yay. three more episodes is definitely better than none. hopefully they`ll like it even more and then we'll get a season 5! but usually it never goes that far..=(
but hopefully if they end it, they didn't end it like they did with popular (old show) where it was canceled at last minute and there was a huge cliffhanger that we`ll never know the answer to.
Veronica Mars is awesome! People keep on watching! The show needs more seasons! At least have more seasons to probably when she graduates college, but it would be cool if they had the show when she was an adult.

veronica needs threemore seasons, but this is a start.I think some people have been reluctant to start getting into it because they think its just another teen drama show.
I'm with a few of the other posters - The CW doesn't air in enough places for the ratings to reflect actual viewers. I live in Canada, and have regular cable not satellite so I have to download all of the episodes. I support OTH by buying the DVD's, however I don't think the network takes this into account.
I tell everyone about VM. It's one of my favorites. The writing is great on a weekly basis despite being episodic. The first season reminded me slightly of Alias in that Veronica wore lots of costumes when she went undercover. She is clever, resourceful and courageous. She always helps others, sometimes for a price but, hey, this is America. She has a great relationship with her father too. It's also a family show. I bought the first two seasons on DVD, that's how much I like the series. I have never watched One Tree Hill but the girls are cute, especially Sophia Bush. I hope CW succeeds and Veronica Mars is given a 4th season.
Mars is getting consistent ratings, and is doing a lot better than other CW programming. 3 episodes tho? How about 3 more seasons?

I'm so glad that the CW is extending veronica mars for three episodes. i just can't understand why they haven't given it a full season yet. if they cancel it in the middle of the season, they will be worse than FOX in my book. vm is easily the best show on television. Please wake up CW and ORDER A FULL SEASON!!!
YAY! YAY! YAY! This has just totally made my day. Three more eppies of VM? Total sweetness. If the CW ever decides to just yank this off, they will be the equivalent of Fox in my book, maybe even worse, since the only redeeming quality of Fox that I can see if House MD.
Veronica Mars is one of the only shows on television that I can count on to be awesome every time. If The CW ever cancels this, it will be nearly as infuriating as it was when Fox canceled Firefly.
Veronica Mars is our favorite show. The whole family actually watches it together. One Tree Hill has gotten a little thin but Sophia Bush is one of my favorite young actresses.
Three episodes? How about the whole season. I love "Veronica Mars" and I love Kristin Bell. We need more support of the show.

I am not a fan of One Tree Hill, but it is better than reality show, so I am glad that it got an order for a full season.
I thought that One tre Hill was running out of steam last years, and was surprised to see it on the CW schedule. I am not a fan of the show, but I think any show is better than reality shows.

One Tree Hill needs to get a full season, and many more to come. It's the best teen drama on television. Depending on OTH's concept for the characters lives after high school could decide if it's cancelled or not. The OC season is young, but I'm not too thrilled about where they're doing post-high school, and hopefully OTH can do better.
One tree hill needs to stay on t.v. It is one of those shows that the more you watch the more you want to see. You can't cancel it now. That wouldn't be right!

i am so happy that they have extended the season for ONE TREE HILL..I LOVE IT!!i have tried to watch vm and can't.the only shows i care about are reba,oth,gilmore girls and those shows have either half or full seasons and thats all i care about!

I'm not exactly sure what the CW is doing because both OTH and VM deserve full season orders. WB had an awesome line-up of shows before the merge. I also love Smallville and Supernatural. The CW cancelled "Runaway" when it was just starting to get really good. What damage is the CW going to do next.
Well first to have ratings you have to be seen. Will either Cox Cable or the CW network to pull their head out of it. I hate the fact that I'm missing Smallville, Veronica Mars, and several other shows. It's so late in the season now...I probably will not go back mid-season. The replacement network MYTV is HORRIBLE! What a waste of a channel that could be producing more quality television. This is an example of what happens when cable companies monopolize what subscribers will see and not see. Welcome to the future of television!

I'm so glad to hear about the added episodes! I LOVE One Tree Hill and have heard from many, many people that Veronica Mars is an awesome show (unfortunately, I'm not able to watch it very often, but I try!) so I'm definantly not surprised about their increase in viewers. The acting on both shows is AMAZING and I really hope that this isn't either of their last seasons!
What does the CW think, that their shows can beat regular network shows like Lost and Grey's Anatomy and CSI and other stuff? With teenagers watching all of these shows and feeling older and cool, they'll never win.

Want to know why the rating remained the same? Some of us avid television watchers who had both UPN and the WB don't have the CW. My cable company decided not to add the CW. Instead, the old UPN channel is MYTV (or something like that) and the old WB channel went off the air. It's literally just a black screen saying that it's not the cable companies fault, please complain to CW. When I called the cable company to ask for the channel that airs many of my favorite shows, they told me to call the affiliate (that doesn't exist anymore) or talk to my city councilmen (not at all going to work in this town). Now I'm stuck WITHOUT my Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, and Smallville fixes. Trust me, some of us would watch if we had the chance.moreless
Please. Everwood was a great show. One Tree Hill is mediocre at best. The acting's not as good and I can't watch five minutes (or even a commercial) without thinking, "Are we really supposed to believe that these people are in high school?"
