CW Moves Supernatural to Fridays for Fall

Someone hand me my diary, I had a bad day at school.

With the announcement of The CW's schedule this morning, we can all breathe a sigh of relief after a busy week of network upfronts. Fox, NBC, CBS, and ABC have all put their cards on the table, with most networks—save for CBS—not shaking things up too badly. But like its mothership station, The CW opted to juggle its schedule a tad.

For the first time, The CW will air all original shows during its ten hours of weekly programming. Gone are the encore performances of America's Next Top Model, and in are the two new series Hellcats and Nikita.

Smallville and Supernatural will be reunited, but unfortunately for the latter, their reunion will take place on Friday nights. Taking Supernatural's old Thursday-at-9pm is spy-remake Nikita, which will have The Vampire Diaries as a lead-in.

90210 moves to Mondays with Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected—two shows that were on the bubble this year—go back-to-back on Tuesday nights.

And yes, Melrose Place is officially in the dumpster.

Here's The CW's 2010-2011 schedule:
(New shows in annoying CAPS)

Monday
8pm 90210
9pm Gossip Girl

Tuesday
8pm One Tree Hill
9pm Life Unexpected

Wednesday
8pm America's Next Top Model
9pm HELLCATS

Thursday
8pm The Vampire Diaries
9pm NIKITA

Friday
8pm Smallville
9pm Supernatural

One Tree Hill was depressing last year....wasn't that good. But it's really good again this year. Honestly, with the way One Tree Hill is (and I bet fans would agree) it could go on for 2 more seasons. One Tree Hill is one of the best shows ever on the CW and it deserves a few more seasons to give us a great goodbye kind of like Smallville. Supernatural is ending now cause of the one brother being gone.....I don't think Hellcats will make it far. Nikita probably will. I'm hoping Life Unexpected ends cause id didn't enjoy it in the slightest. But who knows? With the CW possibly cancelling 3 shows this year maybe everyone can get what they want. One Tree Hill for me, Life Unexpected for others, and Nikita all back.moreless

Not happy about Supernatural's move to Fridays. Although it's my favorite show on television (currently still running, that is, as Buffy and Firefly win the first two spots in my "Of All Time" list), Fridays are often the only nights I can hang out with my friends due to our work and college schedules. So, of course, my friends come first. Which means I'll have to stream it on Saturday nights after I'm out of work. Unfortunately, the network won't be able to register that I'm watching it, as their site has ridiculously slow streaming, so I watch it elsewhere, and I'm too poor to afford a DVR. So basically... this sucks. But whatever. They aren't going to change their line-up, so there's nothing that can be done to change it. On the positive side, once the last season of SPN is over I won't ever have to watch the CW again. Woot!moreless

I'm from Greece and this choise suits me a lot because I have to wait one day for the show to come out here so I will have to wait until Saturday and Saturday it's the finest day for me!

  • adinammr4

It's not fair! Supernatural is my favorite show, and now I can't watch it because I keep the Sabbath. This is so sucky!

  • AnoukvdZee

Is it just me, or is it an extremely dumb move to push Supernatural to the low rating-friday nights when a lot of fans feel scared for this season already? I don't want to hear anyone saying: "I knew the ratings were gonna be down... " Yes, ofcourse they will be now. Thanks a lot, CW.

  • gmx13

I guess Fridays really are where shows go to die. The move to Fridays doesn't bother me much. I'll rarely ever watch it live but that's what the internet is for.

  • memizz

I love the Vampire Diaries and Supernatural together. I hate that they're splitting them up :/

  • DanDay0

sweet!!! I don't have 2 watch the CW on thursday anymore!! YEAH!!! just friday!! Yeah!! I hate CW!! teen girl channel it will probably name in a year or 2 after SMALLVILLE gets canceled!! or should be so all the teen girl can find it easy!!

  • Orcagirl_78

Supernatural on Fridays doesn't both me in the slightest. I always like the pairing of Smallville & Supernatural. I will definitely keep watching both! :)

  • em446

Stop complaining about Supernatural on Fridays people! If you're already a fan, you should make a point to watch it! And don't forget, that's when a DVR comes in handy!

  • Lyta_499

Agreed with previous commenter, rumours about the 6th season just a couple days after season 5 ended are most likely unfounded... Let's just wait and see what happens. Supernatural is definitely among the very best shows on TV right now, and I will watch it nomatter what since I'm a loyal fan. I'm not sure however that I want to see it go down the Smallville path. Smallville was always cheesy, boring and lame so it doesn't matter, but they mustn't let Supernatural burn out. If they're going to give it a deathslot and let it drag on another season just to milk what's left of the cashcow, they might as well respect the show and the fans, and let it go now. Hands off Supernatural network boys!

  • Andiezinha

I was already worried with Supernatural's 6th season because Kripke is leaving, now they move the show to Fridays? Not liking this one bit... I hope they don't cancel before the end of the new season. I've been reading here in the comments that it was announced that the 6th season would be the last, pardon my ignorance, but when/where was that? And didn't they say the same thing for the 5th season?

  • sourabhshetty

It makes sense, Supernatural and Smallville have both announced that this is definitely going to be their last seasons so they are keeping the good time slots for shows that will keep viewers for the 2011 season as well. Supernatural and Smallville have reached a stage where only existing fans will watch it.

  • spacey_uk

Well in CW, moving supernatural to a stupid Friday night and sticking NIKITA on its place. WTF. You useless sods.

  • novembernicole

Well, Smallville and Supernatural will be together again. I worry a little about them airing on Friday nights, but as long as the fans keep watching, hopefully all will be good. Smallville seemed to do ok this past season on Friday nights.

  • tessicia

I TIVO everything so I can avoid commercials. But Supernatural is the ONE AND ONLY show I watch live. And then I watch again and again and even the re-runs on TNT. If Smallville can make it for 10 SEASONS, Supernatural definitely should make it at least 7.

  • tessicia

I LOVE Supernatural. I am not happy about the Friday move, but I will watch it no matter what night it is on as it is my #1 favorite show. I did think it went well with Vampire Diaries, which used SPN to gain an audience for the show. But the 6th season sounds great, and I hope there will be more to come.

  • coolcatkid

Isn't this supposed to be Super Naturals last season anyways . It is a great show and I will just have to record it when it comes on . No harm no foul

  • MisfitChicks

I believe that Supernatural and Smallville are getting the Friday night "death slots" due to it being the last season for both series. It sucks, but that's the politics of network TV kiddies.

  • chloeROCK

no they should keep supernatural on Thursday because medium is at that time and im not missing that show

  • libra113

Not liking this at all, that time slot has been "Supernatural" since early in the first season and Friday night tends to be tv posion with so many people going out and having fun on weekend. This is NOT good news at all.

  • forensicsfan108

Supernatural and Vampire Diaries are they only shows that I watch on the CW.

  • Endgame65

Lame, who wants yet another remake on this crappy channel. Supernatural is the only thing it has going for it.

  • keepnTreel

Supernatural will only die if the fans don't watch. I DON'T CARE when they air it, as long as they air it. i WILL FOLLOW IT whenever it airs.

  • 8ie7

I guess it's better to have Supernatural on Friday instead of no Supernatural at all.

  • wwjd_

Pssh! Why did they have to move Spn? Man! Whatever I guess its better then it being off the air... =(

  • Lyta_499

Supernatural is pretty much the only good thing on CW. Hope the new timeslot doesn't do it harm, although I would prefer if it ended this year on its peak. It will be hard to top S05.

  • joits

nikita is getting cancelled, then... thurs at 9pm is a crazy time. fringe, greys anatomy, csi and the nbc sitcoms. too bad, it sounds like a great show.

  • Nagowteena

Actually I like the move for Supernatural, there were just to many good shows on Thursday, it was crazy. At least now things are a bit more spread out.

  • supernatural14

Is the CW trying to kill off Supernatural? What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!

  • txgirl75

I'm surprised that one tree hill and life unexpected are both coming on. I thought when one show finishes up it's 13 episodes the next show would start up in it's place? What will they do now with both shows go off after 13 episodes? KInda weird how they had switch the shows around.

  • Wiseowl103

I'm conflicted. I'm a devout Supernatural fan, and I'm pissed that they moved it to Fridays, but on the other hand, Smallville and Supernatural always worked very well together. Here's another thing, I'm cautiously optimistic about this reboot of Nikita that they're planning. Having TVD as a lead-in is going to be good for that show. We will see how it goes, but I'd hate to see Supernatural get canceled over a time-slot issue. After 6 years pulling solid ratings for the CW, they owe Supernatural better than that.

  • emma5000

WTH? Do they want to kill of Supernatural?

  • KappaBilly

I missed Supernatural and Smallville together it worked well for a good while only combination I liked more was Smallville and Angel. I am not too worried about the Death Night timeslot Smallville survived it just fine and is able to end on it own terms after an epic run. I am much more concerned about the fact that everyone is convinced that Supernatural should have ended this season. I am more concerned about the 2011-2012 season of Supernatural what will they do without a strong show like Smallville backing them up? Hopefully this Nikita show will fail and the will put it back with TVD

  • Sami5118

Good! I'm glad Melrose is gone! They have wayyyyyyyy too many shows on there about stupid, air headed, rich teenagers who think everything is about them. Get some REAL shows on the CW!

  • nestosmells

I'm happy with Life and OTH moving to Tues. and Smallville and SN on Fri. I always had too much on Mon. and Thurs.

  • LauraPeterson45

wtf?! supernatural was one of their highest rated/best shows on the entire channel and they move it to friday night when no one watches TV? i get hat Kripke is leaving the show and the next season might not be that great but really? you move it to a death slot? i for one will watch it whenever its on but i think the CW is being incredibly stupid. apparently the world needs another, stupid show about vapid, air head, rich teenagers rather than thoutful quality programming.

  • purplehewitt

I am really looking foward to HELLCATS. Love oth, Gossip girl, 90210, antm, vampire diaries and like life unexpeced. Nakita i'm not so sure about.

  • WilsonCrawford

As much as I hate the move for Supernatural (it was perfect in it's place!!!) At least it's with Smallville again. The preview for hellcats almost killed me it was so godawful, but Nikita seems like its gonna end up like Vampire Diaries: it might actually be good and if it is, then Thursday might be worth watching anyway...

  • Run4Nova

Can't say I'm thrilled about Supernatural moving to Fridays, though it really wasn't that unexpected. I'll still be happy to follow Supernatural where ever it goes as long as it still gets its full season.

  • Hakkeboef68

this pisses me off. Why move Supernatural?! THAT *** SUCKS!!!! TVD and Supernatural used to walk hand in hand, the perfect thursday night ! And now you move it to FRIDAY at 9 pm? Seriously?! Thats one of the worst spots all week!! They deserve better! SHAME ON YOU CW!

  • samia18

I am so excited and pleased that Life Unexpected + OTH are back on for another season. My hunch is that this will be the last season for OTH though. Hellcats looks good too. Well done CW!

  • silencedlight

I'm glad to see smallville and supernatural moved here as its there last season. They don't need to worry about ratings, just the story and how to round it up. Friday is a bad night to be placed, but shows that are need good ratings for additional seasons need to go in better places.

  • Starprincess13

No surprise that Melrose Place was canceled.
