CW network names comedy topper

CW has announced that Kim Fleary will be executive vice president of comedy development for The CW. Fleary will report to network president Dawn Ostroff, whom she worked under at UPN.

Fleary is an industry veteran who headed the comedy department at UPN, overseeing the development of sitcoms Everybody Hates Chris and All Of Us. When Fleary heads to the new network, formed from the merging of UPN and The WB, her shows are coming with her.

In her career in comedy development at ABC, Fleary has helped develop the shows The Wonder Years, Roseanne, The Drew Carey Show, Home Improvement, and 3rd Rock from the Sun. She also worked at H. Beale Co., the production company run by the late Brandon Tartikoff, the man credited with reigning over NBC's golden age during the '80s, when the network aired such hits as The Cosby Show and Miami Vice.

This will either mean the "CW" will have more of a solid footing in "buzz" and ratings- or the beginning of a "revolving door" for executives trying to keep the new network afloat. Personally, I think placing "EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS" on Sundays is a mistake; perhaps Ms. Fleary feels the same way?

Interesting that she's in charge of 2 shows that the CW kept. Does this mean we might see a few more black shows on the CW?
