CW Promotes Beautiful Life with Near-Porn

CW, you're a breath of fresh air in the broadcast television industry. While other networks pretend to be things they aren't, you're like a 300-pound woman in a tubetop with her thong sticking out -- you are who you are, and that's beautiful.

And what you are is pure sensationalism. 90210, Melrose Place, Gossip Girl -- this is the new CW, and it's brimming with young hotties in sudsy dramas that don't even pretend to stroke our cerebral cortexes, just our ids.

Case in point: The promos for the CW's latest entry in the style-over-substance programming arena, upcoming New York model drama The Beautiful Life. They fit perfectly with the network's new objective: turn heads and get people talking.

The series of four ads features actors Ashley Madekwe (here), Corbin Bleu (here), Sara Paxton (here), and Ben Hollingsworth (here) nude, with the show's logo and tagline ("What are you looking at?") covering their nether regions (the ladies strategically hide their boobs with their arms).

Sure, the modeling industry is all about meat, but let's not overlook the CW's intentions. The new ads are purposefully risque and meant to be shock people into talking about the show (doh! we accidentally obliged!).

The question is, do these ads go too far? With a smirk, we say no. We had this same discussion over last season's Gossip Girl promos and Rolling Stone photos, both were given the green light by the CW. But those involved teenagers and frankly, they frightened us. These ones? Not so much.

What's your take?

Come one guys! They have Gossip Girl as well. I think Smallville is a pretty good show, even if the first few seasons were boring. I'm going to check out this new show and if it sucks, I'll stop watching it. 90210, Privileged, Melrose Place, thumbs down, stopped watching them, or just don't want to watch.

With Reaper gone the only good show left on the CW is Supernatural, and maybe Smallville. After SN is over there will be no reason to watch this station. They have the talent to make good shows (Reaper, Veronica Mars) they just don't want to keep them. It's a very sad state of television.

The picture is cheap sensationalism, but it ain't porn. Shame on the writer of the article using cheap sensationalism to get me to read it!:P

Since they admit that their shows have no content, they may as well push the "style" angle (such as it is).

If you think these ads are even close to being pornographic then I would say you have a bigger problem. That of a proper perspective on life on this planet!

imo classy ads, doesnt matther that they are nude behind the banner they dont show it so for me i dont have any problem with it.

The ads are risque but original, it's actually refreshing that with all the politically correct rubbish these days that CW is willing to take the risk. It's not even nudity and accomplishes it's goal: publicity, even if it is of the notorious kind.

To call those ads "near-porn" is a bit too much, considering, there is no nudity, and the picturea are even a bit elegant.

I haven't watched the CW for years. Here's another reason to stay away. I'm glad these ads aren't all over tv.com like the offensive Gossip Girl ad was.

CW is fresh breeze in the TV industry. We know what they are and what we can expect from them. I like it!

And I like their promotion of the new series, Beautiful Life. The pictures are tasteful, but I am European so people in America can have different opinion.

Anything to get attention huh???? How about writing some stories about folks that happen to not CATER to white teenage girls. You can have al the nudity you want but if the show is all fluff. No one cares and then you will wish you kept Reaper, Veronica Mars, GIrlfriends & the other shows that cater to the folks you are turning away. Also why Corbin Bleu? He isn't a cast member or is he your ploy to attract African Americans & High School Musical fans?

I think it's sad that a network only uses beautiful teenagers and get them on naked ads to attract people!!

Ah CW, how I loathe thee. But your right. I guess it just caters to a whole different group and its not trying to hide it. Thats why Reaper probably could never last on CW. It had absolutely no rich whining plastic teenagers. But if you like that sort of thing, CW is aces.
