Daly and NBC sponsor Web contest

It's first call for Carson Daly's Web studio.

The Last Call With Carson Daly host's Carson Daly Productions and NBC are creating an online content-creation contest that rewards winning entries with $100,000. The contest, called It's Your Show, lets users create their own shorts and put them on the Internet to be judged.

Participants will be tasked with creative challenges from the network, such as "make a horror movie" or "make a sitcom about your own family." The users will then have access to a special online toolbox created by NBC and accessible at It's Your Show TV to enhance the videos they have created.

Each week, a panel of producers will screen the videos, from which 20 will be posted online. The weekly winners will receive $1,000 and be entered into the running for the grand prize of $100,000. NBC says there is a chance the winning videos may also be screened on the network.

In a statement, NBC president Kevin Reilly said, "We want to give people a chance to show us what the next level of user-generated content can look like when given the tools and the opportunity. Our next phase of this project will be to integrate the best and worst of this content into a program broadcast on NBC."

"This model...with directed challenges, raises the bar and creates a measure of real competition. The Internet has become a vast platform for identifying emerging artists. I hope to expose this talent on a much larger, focused scale," Daly added.

Earlier this year, Daly hired 20-year-old Brooke Brodack after her online videos made waves at popular Web video site YouTube. NBC has also gotten into the Web content game by partnering with YouTube and sponsoring an Office competition.

TV.com users can also upload their videos to that site here. As of now, there is no cash prize for doing so.

This would be great, if I only had a cast of wanna be actors that would work for free. I could do a comedy family sitcom on my own family. "The son that never talks to no one, just goes straight up to his room"
Oh wait, then how do I film the show?
