DC's Legends of Tomorrow Casts Firefly's Jewel Staite

Jewel Staite has landed a guest-starring role on The CW’s Arrow and The Flash spin-off DC's Legends of Tomorrow, according to TV Line. The Firefly and Stargate Atlantis alum will play Rachel Turner, a tech genius and roboticist from the future who just so happens to be a descendant of an established DC Universe character. (Ben Turner or Amanda Turner, perhaps?) Though Rachel believes her creations will improve the world, once Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) gets a hold of her tech he will use it to take over the world. That is, unless Rachel can help the Legends stop him.

Legends of Tomorrow’s first season will also feature guest appearances by Carlos Valdes (The Flash’s Cisco Ramon), Matt Nable (Arrow’s Ra’s al Ghul), Neal McDonough (Arrow’s Damien Darhk), Ali Liebert as a love interest for Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), and Stephanie Corneliussen as villain Valentina Vostok.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday, January 21 at 8pm on The CW.

Every Greg Berlanti has a formula it must follow. It sounds like Staite has been cast as LoT's resident Felicity/Cisco/deus-ex-machina character, who will rescue the characters from the corner the writers placed them into with some kind of magical tech "fix" towards the end of the episode.

Well as Jewel Staite is only a guest star and the characters already have two tech wizards on the team (Stein & Palmer), I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Rachel Turner is going to be a resident anything.

River and Simon on Arrow. Inara on Gotham. Kaylee on LOT. This needs to keep going. Perhaps Jayne on Supergirl, Wash and Zoe on the Flash? Mal on...

Of the two suggested characters Amanda Turner seems like the more likely option, especially as Ben Turner was killed between seasons 2 and 3 of Arrow

Yeah, go Jewel! I started X-files again a few weeks ago and was surprised to see her pop up in an episode when she was about 14. She just needs keep space (no pun intended) for this never-gonna-happen Firefly resurrection.

I'm rewatching X-files too. She just turned 13 at the time! She played the role of the 15-year-old girl Amy (season 3 episode 8 Oubliette. They used make up to let her appear older.
