The TV star was not hired for the talent show despite judging previous series Any Dream Will Do and I'd Do Anything.
"I have still got a good relationship with the BBC and with Andrew (Lloyd Webber) - and I've watched the show and I think it's great," she told GMTV.
But Denise, who is expecting her first child with husband Lee Mead, admitted she was disappointed.
"There is some truth in that, I was in discussions to do the show - myself and John Barrowman - we were talking about doing it, it was mentioned to me that it could be a problem - that because I'm due during the series," she recalled.
"But at most I would have missed one show. I was hoping that they would look at the option of maybe having a guest judge in for the one show that I was missing, but it wasn't meant to be."
She continued: "From what I hear, they changed their plans - and obviously I'm not doing it. So it's fine, it's a shame."
The BBC has denied that the decision to sign Charlotte Church instead of Denise for Over The Rainbow had anything to do with Denise's pregnancy.
