One of the big surprises of this season of Desperate Housewives was a flash-forward five years into the future in the lives of Susanne, Gabrielle, Bree, Lynette, and company. Now, if everything goes according to plan, we won't have to imagine the show five years into the future--we'll see it plain as day.
E! Online's Ted Casablanca--famous in the industry for his blind items--is reporting that the saucy tales of Wisteria Lane will go on through season nine--which would end the show in 2013--if creator Marc Cherry gets his way. At this year's TCA summer press tour, the always jubilant and wise-cracking Cherry (seriously, this guy is one of the wittiest people in the industry) told TV.com that he wanted to end the show after season seven.
But a new creative spark has apparently changed his mind. E! Online's other snoop, Kristen Dos Santos, dug further and says the five-year Lost-esque flash-forward has revived Cherry's interest in taking the show further.
Another thing that can't be hurting the cause to go longer is Desperate Housewives' performance this year. Ratings are back up again, and pretty much anyone who isn't watching Sunday Night Football on NBC is ogling over Eva, Marcia, Felicity, and Teri.
ABC has yet to make an announcement on the matter, but if Cherry wants to continue dominating the female demo on Sundays, there's no reason ABC wouldn't want to let the maestro do his thing.
Four more years instead of two. Do you think Desperate Housewives can keep its mojo going?

I own all 5 seasons on DVD. I don't want to see it end. Let's let it continue into 2013. I believe Marc Cherry is very talented and intelligent. Us Cherry's go a long way and a long time, After all I married a Cherry. I can't think of lots of different plots that can be used for this show, I am sure Marc Cherry has already thought of them. I knew Eddie was the Wisteria Lane Strangler when the coffee shop girl was strangled, He had to leave all of a sudden. I have been really good at solving Marc Cherry's mysteries so far and would love to attempt to solve the rest of them. My message to Marc Cherry is, Keep up the great work you are an intelligent man full of great ideas and mysteries. So keep them coming and pat yourself on the back!moreless
absolutely keep it coming I have been a huge fan since day 1. I love Desperate Housewives and hate to see it end ever!. Please let this comedy series continue into the long future.- Erica Stafford-CherryNashville, TN
Cherry is brilliant - writers clever - keep it coming
I don't know what to think about this, because I'm not sure if they are gonna be able to keep us watching it for so many years and keep us expecting as today wondering: what's the mistery? how they are gonna do that? Maybe they have to learn that shows like Six Feet Under end in 5 seasons and they were awesome. One more season could ruin a very good show.
I really hope DH will continue for a long time over ... I love the show and many people in europe do. Sometimes I think that they should stop thinking of only the ratings in America what about the rest of the world??? ...everybody LOVES Dh in europe :)
im all work up to hear theres going be more seasons will they go fiver years head. seson five is brilliant 100 episode was very good
also I do think it can keep its mojo working and be good for all of its run
those housewives rule and I would be glad if it goes to 2013 but not be surpried if it ended 2 years before that, I constantly drool over them especially marcia and eva
i'm excited but.. whats going to happen? thats a lot of years of plot to fill up - it better be interesting!
I HOPE SO! I LOVE DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES! I have all 4 seasons on dvd. In fact I got all my friends into the show: Heidi, Doug, Tash, Lindsey, Michael, Erica, Kimberly and an old one Matt. We use to all get together for "Desperate Events" back in early season 4 than some of us had falling outs. Anyways hope she can go for 9 seasons without losing it.
--To me, that's like saying, "This marriage is going really well, but let's end it now, while we're at the top of our game!"--
It's best to let it go when it's still doing well than to have it "pull a Simpsons" and remain until it becomes unfunny, irrelevant, and a shadow of its glory days.
--If someone like Marc Cherry can "keep a good thing going", and people are continuing to watch the show (thus implying it's worthy of the viewership), then why stop it?--
So that the show doesn't have the chance to get bogged down with problems, thereby allowing it to resurface should people wish it to.
--If it gets dull, we'll soon know about it.--
And by then, the show will be done and it won't ever come back. The only good shows know when to quit and have succeeded because of that.moreless
I definitely like this show its one of my guilty pleasure show's but I finding it hard to see it going much past the 7 yr mark as far as story line goes.
The Desperate we love
No! Too much! I want it to go to seven, not 9!
I love this show. It will be great if it will go on through season ten. :DWonderful, wonderful news! Hope he won't change his mind, though.
This news the perfect Christmas/end of the year gift.
I love this Show i would stick to it till the end.... as long as Gavy and Susan are around they are my favorite....
I hope that they keep on going on till 2013
If Cherry has his way and gets 9 seasons he probably won't have to work another day of his life. Just live off of the syndication deals.
Luv it! bring it on 2013!!!
sweet!
thats 3 years longer than Lost will air for... there is no justice in the world!
really? really??? i'm so disapointed with this show this season... go watch cold case.
I love the show... But I'm done with ABC once Pushing Daisies stops airing... So however long it continues after the last episode of Pushing Daisies I'll just have to see on DVD.
Congrats to the fans of this show...
Stop calling this show a guilty pleasure. It's by far one of the most intelligent, funny, moving and exciting shows on television right now. No one should feel "guilty" of enjoying the pleasure this great series has to give! That said, I think 9 seasons would be too much. Seven's a magical number. I'm sure the show will be perfect with "just" seven seasons. I have my doubts about the willingness of all four main cast members to stay for until the end, and I would hate to see Desperate Housewives agonize the way, for instance, "The X-Files" did in its seasons 8 and 9.
It's just not funny anymore...
Good God just let it die.
well, good news, as long as it keeps its great quality it will be great
I love Desperate Housewives, but i'm wondering what else can they do to these woman. But love the show, and im happy!
Definitely good news! Keep'em coming! The new season is just what the show needed!
No! Bad News!
Yes! Great News!
2013??? It's too much
Yeah its cool idea :)
Yeah its cool idea :)
Its probably a good idea
They are just gonna drag out a show which should be running FOR 7 SEASONS and make it last for 9 seasons by fillers because Cherry can profit... i dont think its a particularly great idea. Probably will just run Desperate into the ground.
I'll watch as long as it's on the air. I started watching by accident with my wife, and then got hooked. Love the writing and weekly twists. With such strong personalities on and off camera, I sincerely doubt it could ever "get boring".
I watch it but 2013! Come on!
Awesome! Nice news
OMG best news ever! The other day I was thinking man I only have another 2 years of DH left and how could they end it when they have so much more story telling to tell? but now this news has made my day. I believe in Marc Cherry and if he has ideas for future seasons then DH can keep its mojo going!
Best news for the day =() Finally something else than cutting shows off the air...I LOVE DH!
The show is still amazing so I am glad it's staying on the air for a little longer.
Please, God, no.
I really hope this comes to pass, I think! I wouldn't want "Desperate Housewives" to suffer from viewers' lack of interest. I know I am never going to get bored with this show, it is just fantastic! Marc Cherry will always keep things fresh and interesting, this show can pull nine seasons off! And I heard that four main ladies are all on board, too, so we won't have to worry about some of them not returning. I hope they bring back Alfre Woodard in one of those seasons... Long live Desperate Housewives.
Here in England, I've encountered people with the opinion that shows should be short and sweet, and obviously, they're entitled to that opinion. I don't share it. To me, that's like saying, "This marriage is going really well, but let's end it now, while we're at the top of our game!" Ludicrous (and perhaps not the best example, but it serves my point). If someone like Marc Cherry can "keep a good thing going", and people are continuing to watch the show (thus implying it's worthy of the viewership), then why stop it? If it gets dull, we'll soon know about it, because those studios seem to love wielding that axe (or, in the U.S., "ax", I believe). I only hope that, like "they" did when Alias came to an end, the producers are given enough notice so that they can wrap things up properly and fairly for the viewers.
Long live good TV!moreless
Although this is good news, perhaps season nine would be a stretch. We wouldn't want to get bored now would we? But if it means seeing more Eva, then I am all for it.
Absolutely one of the best shows around and still great after 5 years. Here's to another 4.
