When we heard that Desperate Housewives was finally returning to Channel 4 we thought "brilliant! Now we can get some answers." But what did we learn in last night's episode? Two things: Susan Delfino (Teri Hatcher) is going to have to undergo kidney dialysis and that Paul Young’s (Mark Moses) shooter is still at large.
As much as I’d like to focus on Susan’s condition, the real question here is obvious: Who shot Paul Young? Cheap Dallas jokes aside, the suspense is sort of killing me. So let's point the finger at a few possible suspects. Since Susan, Mike (James Denton), Felicia (Harriet Sansom Harris), Beth (Emily Bergl), Bree (Marcia Cross), Lee (Kevin Rahm), Lynette (Felicity Huffman) are definitely innocent, who could the mystery marksman (or woman) be?
Our money’s on Zach Young (Cody Kasch), Paul’s disgruntled, batshit-crazy “son.” We last saw him at the end of Season 3, when he was using his fortune to seduce Gaby (Eva Longoria) and still held a massive grudge against his equally batshit-crazy father. I wouldn’t put it past this guy to attempt to murder his old man.
But let’s consider a few other sly foxes; with seven years of Wisteria Lane antics under its belt, Desperate Housewives has given us plenty of characters to blame for stuff like this. What about Susan’s daughter, Julie (Andrea Bowen)? We haven’t seen her in a while, and she’s definitely not the innocent teenager we met in Season 1. Plus, she hates Paul Young just as much as her mother does. Or perhaps one of the Scavo twins is the culprit? They’re not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. There's also Bree's son Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom), as Zap2It's Jethro Nededog has suggested.
But maybe it wasn’t one of the Lane’s screwed-up offspring. Maybe it was Renee (Vanessa Williams)! She’s kind of like the new Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan), and by that I mean she’d do anything to attract attention to herself. It’s possible that Renee was desperate to earn the favour of her neighbours, and murdering their common enemy seemed like a good way to do it.
It’s also possible that one of the presumed-innocent folks is lying. Mike and Beth seemed like they could be guilty, don't you think?
Who do you think shot Paul Young?
