Dexter's First Season 7 Promo Pits Him Against the Truth (VIDEO)

Alert! There are Season 6 spoilers ahead, but if you're watching a promo for Season 7 then you've probably already seen Season 6, right?

Remember how we were all like, "oh sh*t! oh sh*t! oh sh*t!" during Dexter's Season 6 finale when Dex was about to murder Travis and Debra was walking in and just as Dex planted the knife in Travis's gut Debra entered the kill room and it was very embarrassing for everyone involved because who wants to get caught by their sister while murdering someone and poor Travis was covered in Saran Wrap and Debra could see his naughty bits? Well about that, it looks like the Deb-Dex thing is going to play a pretty big part in this upcoming season, if this first promo for Dexter Season 7 isn't lying.

There's no real new footage here, but there's plenty of flashing and rotating lights and sinister glances from Dexter. However, if you listen to the new audio clips, you might be able to piece together what happens.

"Get away from the body," Deb says, all cop-like. Is she about to pull a gun on her brother from another mother? Looks like Dexter is going to have to cut a bitch.

Dexter Season 7 premieres Sunday, September 30 at 9pm on Showtime.

I stopped halfway through season five. I couldn't get into it. I didn't like the feel it had post-Rita's death. Out of the 4.5 I watched, for me, it goes: 4>2>1>3>5.

Maybe this will lure me back to the show. I dropped it after the abysmal season 5

Season 5 was one of the best, season 4 and 6 were awful.

I disagree. After watching/rewatching a lot of TV in the lots and lots of free time I had the past few months season 5 was still strong - so was the beginning of season 6 btw. You should give it another try.

I hope this means the incest plot is scrapped. Who'd want to have sex with my brother the serial killer?

Sorry to ruin the moment, but showrunner Scott Buck says they are not shying away from that story.

Technically since they're not biologically related it's not incest. And if you argue that since they grew up together it counts. You'll just be opening yourself up to the counter argument of if growing really mattered when it comes to incest why is it still incest if the siblings never grew up together?

Incest is often considered to be about relationships, not biology, so they would count.

Actually technically step counts as incest.

Dexter was adopted. He's not related at all.

You really needed the promo to inform you of this Mr Reviewer?

Expected them to mentioned it briefly about midway through season 7 myself. (yeah that's sarcasm)

That's the problem with Tim covering this story, he doesn't watch the show. Price tore the shit out last season, but at least he watches it. Have Price cover the Dexter news.

Please PLEASE prease Please puh-lease PALEEZ, Dexter writers, don't screw up this big reveal.

I said this when the season ended, but I really hope they don't play this off as a tease of sorts by having Dexter talk himself out of Deb seeing him as a serial killer.

You're so right! Don't you just hate it when people walk in on you while you're plunging a knife into someone's chest? It's equally embarrassing every time! Can't people just respect others' killing boundaries?

I'm really waiting for next season. I still haven't lost hope in the show even though the last two seasons weren't as strong as the previous ones. I understand that since the show started off so well, the quality was bound to drop at some point. It's not like the writers are miracle workers. I think Dexter is like Fringe (or pizza, or sex): Even when it's bad it's still pretty good. So the last two seasons weren't as good as people expected? Fine. But they were still pretty great compared to other shows. I think people are putting the bar too high for what they think Dexter should perform.

I also think that people have fixed expectations for how the show should be and when it doesn't go their way, they get disappointed. Case in point: Deb realizing that she likes (loves?) Dexter. Maybe this turn of events was a little bit freaky, but at the same time I think it was kind of a natural progression of her state of mind. She has been so unlucky with men, but Dexter has always been there for her. Maybe she has always at some level had feelings for him, but she only realized it last season. I don't think her realization was sudden, I think it had been a long time coming. And I think once the show was going to make Deb find out that Dexter is a killer, it needed to reveal that Deb feels more strongly for Dexter. Her having stronger feelings makes it so much harder for her to accept Dexter's actions.

I respectfully disagree with you on more than one thing.

Season 5 was...uneven. Parts of it worked and parts of it didn't. It wasn't terrible.

Season 6 was terrible. The writing was sloppy and predictable, the subplots ridiculous and unfounded, and some good actors were terribly wasted.

The quality did not necessarily have to drop. The show's main writers changed. The people on board for seasons 1-5 left and a new staff came in.

I never liked the Deb-Dex romantic idea, not because of incest, but because there was no precedent set for it in the show. No groundwork laid. It wasn't something built up to over time with little clues that Deb maybe thinks of Dex as more than a brother. It felt like the writers just sprung it because they needed some hook to grab people's attention back. And no, it wasn't necessary for her to feel this way in order for the reveal to work. In fact, it's much more fascinating to watch familial love comprehending the fact that a family member is a serial killer (see: "We Need to Talk About Kevin").

That being said, I hope this season can turn it around and make Dexter closer to being the show it once was.

I just hope there won't be a "oopsie" moment where he talks himself out of it within the first minute and they continue with the regular patterns of the show.

I believe he will introduce her to her world and she might even become an accomplice and starts killing people herself, after all she is the one with the rage.

Really looking forward to seeing how this plays out. We saw it teased a bit at the end of season 5 when deb 'discovered' dexter killing Lumen's tormentors, so we know that she can certainly sympathize towards Dexter's situation, but to what level is uncertain. I really think this will shake things up for the next season, to be sure. It will be nice to have someone who is in on his secret, the way Lumen was.

I've been waitin on this moment I wonder whats going to happen with their relationship hopefully its going to be alot better than season 6 IMO Colin Hanks talent was wasted.

so glad hey actually did something to change the show at least a LITTLE bit! the last 2 seasons have almost been unbearable!!
Reply

Agreed, the last 2 season have been such a huge drop in quality that it almost makes you wonder if they fired some of their writers or something.

Really, I rather liked the Lumen storyline. I did feel the hole "Gellar is really dead" story just too cliched.

i just felt like the Lumen story was wayyyyyyy too much like season 3...
Reply

Ya I actually really liked Season 5 with Lumen. Season 6 was "okay", but ya have to agree that Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos felt fairly wasted talent this season compared with previous guest stars (*cough* John Lithgow *cough*).

Really don't say that. Now they have a pivotal storyline (which has been expected since season 1) to screw up. If they do this like last year, the series is pretty much done.

I enjoyed last season, I knew the so called twist from day one, but I still enjoyed the acting and such. Could have done without the Deb Loves Dexter stuff though.

See, I thoroughly enjoyed last season, no matter what they say (and Price will back me up on this one). Either way, I think we can all agree that this holds some promising points for the future of the show.
