Dirt buried

In FX's Dirt, former Friends star Courtney Cox plays the editor of a Hollywood tabloid magazine who uses nefarious means to dig up juicy gossip on celebrities. Life imitated art when Cox gave up a little dirt on herself at a charity event in Los Angeles yesterday.

Speaking to reporters at an event supporting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Cox addressed the issue of whether Dirt--which she also produced with her husband David Arquette--would get picked up for a third season.

"It just got canceled," she said, according to TV Guide, quickly putting any speculation of a third season to rest.

Dirt premiered in early 2007, and its second season was shortened from 13 episodes to seven because of the writers' strike, something that may have led to its demise. The show received mixed ratings, but apparently could not draw enough of an audience.

Cox isn't letting Dirt's demise thwart her passion for producing. She is currently working on several projects for her Coquette Productions television production company.

I am really getting fed up with T.V. in general. They cancel all the good ones, and create ridiculous junk like Caveman. Dirt was really good, so was the show about people with eating disorders. People have gone overboard with the the P.C. thing. If Nip/Tuck or The Riches disappear, so will I. These shows that are getting axed have great character development, so you can enjoy episodes that you may not love for the content.

OMG!!! This is one of my favorite FX shows to date. I can't believe they're doing this. It was only 7 episodes. If they did a full season and no one watched, I could understand. They could have given us the other half of S2 at least. Freakin idiots!!! If Nip/Tuck or Rescue Me was no longer on this channel, I would stop watching it for this grave error in judgement. I Love Courtney Cox and she ruled as Lucy!

Why am I not surprised? They seemed to tie up every loose end on the final episode. I'm sorry, but the 2nd season wasn't worth watching.

Really not surprised it was canceled. Great first season. This season seemed to lack something. That seems to be the problem with shows after first season. FX should at least run a 2 hour episode finalle

I'm not surprised Dirt was canceled, but I'm definitely annoyed by it. The strike completely screwed up this season and FX knows that. The ratings may not have been great, but it did well on iTunes and Hulu that it should've been renewed, if not out of sympathy to the fans who didn't get a full season. Another thing that really annoys me about this is that FX didn't come out and say it themselves. I think that's just pathetic. And I guarantee The Riches are next because ratings were worse. It's a shame because these are two great shows with a lot of great talent involved.
    RIP Dirt.

Fairly surprising, Dirt really stepped it up from a pretty poor first season.

why are so many good shows being axed?!?! dirt rocked! the second season not so much but i mean come on, look what they had to deal with. That writers strike totally sucked and because of their issues the people have to suffer. They better come back with new fresh ideas for shows because this remake of 90210 and Celebrity Circus just isn't going to cut it. GET REAL PEOPLE!

I am beginning to sound like a broken record ... but WHY are SO many AMAZING series being cancelled and SO many crap ones are still there or are about to appear??? It's like it's a payback for the strike ... the networks getting their own back on the people who stood up for their jobs regardless of whether the show deserved to go or not ... in fact the better the show the more likely it was to get canned! GMAFB!

This truly sux...why are many of the actually good, interesting different shows being cancelled??? Of course there was a decrease in viewers because no one knew when shows were on or coming back or everyone got so into the reality shows that they just stopped watching real shows. Don't get me wrong I watch quite a few reality shows, but I started because there was less on during the strike, but when my shows came back so did I. I started watching Dirt during the 2nd season, but went back and watched most of the first season and thought this show was amazing. I really liked it and am so mad that it was cancelled. These shows don't get enough attention or a chance to come back from that horrible strike.moreless

A general problem is that they've traded in content for T&A. Season 1 has Cox taking her clothes off every episode. I am not complaining, but Dirt, Nip/Tuck, and Rescue Me need new writers. The Shield is still the best show on TV.

This was a good show I kept missing. It is way better then that dump Joey show. Cortney Cox should do something new because she is a really great actor though.

Wow, I liked season 1, but the short season 2 left something to be desired. It really seems like the networks are cutting a ton of shows.

well, to me this is as sad of a news as the end of Friends.
I disagree with you all, both seasons were great in their own way and I am just gonna miss Lucy & Holt so much and crazy sweet Don as well.
Courteney was amazing in DIRT and I just want to thank her for making this year an a half a lot more fun and for the anticipation she teased.
oh and add this: damn you writters! you screwed everything up this year.

The show seemed to slip in the second season but having the season shortened because of the strike didn't help. Who knows how it would've done if it would've had a full season, but today it seems that networks want a hit straight out of the box that never slips. Now a day's shows aren't expected to have a slip in the ratings but be allowed to recover, it's either a hit all the time or its canceled. Take care.Peace To All

thank god 2nd season was terrible. Maybe Courtney and Friends can get back to Friends and reunite. Maybe I am gung ho about this because I saw the Sex and the City reunion movie which made me feel so nostalgic for my Favorite Friends to get back together. If Van Halen can get back together as well, Friends can too. The Sex and the City & Van Halen successes should help motivate.
