Because of the gimmicky new Judges' Save that was exercised last week, fans of American Idol got a double-dose of eliminations Wednesday night. The reality hit cut its seven finalists down to five after disco-themed performances, and the remaining contestants are looking… awfully white.
Anoop Desai, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Lil Rounds, from Memphis, Tennessee, were kicked to the curb in American Idol's first double-elimination show. Desai's long run ended with his performance of Donna Summer's "Dim All The Lights," and Rounds saw her chance end after her rendition of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman."
This leaves Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, and last week's recipient of the Judges' Save, Matt Giraud. Early in the season, judges predicted that a male contestant would win this year, and it's looking that way with only one female remaining.
Next week, the final five sing songs made famous by the Rat Pack, and former Idol champ Taylor Hicks stops by to sing his latest single.
Did America send the right people home?
