Disney ready to go back to Camp

Disney may be on to something with this kids-targeted entertainment thing. The company is churning out hot young star after hot younger star at a rate faster than they can be yesterday's thing to the attention-deficit disorder crowd, and making bazillions in the process.

After making superstars out of Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Ashley Tisdale, and others, Disney's next tween machine appears to be Camp Rock, a new property that aired its first telefilm this past weekend. I say first because, as is the case with anything kid-related and successful, the inevitable sequel is allegedly already in the works.

Camp Rock grabbed 8.9 million viewers in its debut, a far cry from the staggering 17.2 million that High School Musical 2 raked in last year but still mighty impressive for basic cable, making it an obvious choice for sequel-izing. Development on a second Camp Rock is already underway, says The Hollywood Reporter, with filming about a year away.

The film stars Disney's newest hot acts, the sibling musical act Jonas Brothers and Demi "the second coming of Miley Cyrus" Lovato, as attendees of a musically inclined camp for youngsters. When Lovato's character is heard--but not seen--singing by one of the camp's rock stars, she unwittingly becomes the subject of a hunt to find the new talented prodigy.

Prepare to see a lot more of Lovato and Jonas Brothers in the coming months. Lovato is currently working on her new series Welcome to Mollywood, and Jonas Brothers are filming J.O.N.A.S., both of which premiere in September.
