Does Anyone Rate the NTAs?

After a disappointing night at The Golden Globes Britain's TV talent is to be recognised at The National Television Awards

OK, so The National Television Awards hold far less recognition and acclaim than The Golden Globes, they're not even the UK's most respected TV awards ceremony--that's reserved for the BAFTAs. Nevertheless, the NTAs have been acknowledging Britain's best shows and celebrities for over a decade, and they're at it again this Wednesday--giving us Brits the chance to lick our wounds after our crushing defeat at the Golden Globes. But, does anyone still care?

Doctor Who, Top Gear, and EastEnders often dominate the evening and no doubt will this time too: The modern remake of Doctor Who has won an award every year since it started in 2005, while car show Top Gear and London-based soap EastEnders have both won gongs for three years running. Geordie double act Ant & Dec always seem to win something too. Of course, all are up for nominations again this year--and judging by their competition (which includes Loose Women, The Bill and Hollyoaks) they'll probably win too.

The special recognition award, which last year went to Simon Cowell, is one gong that has the ability to surprise at least. Ant & Dec can't win this one either--they've already received it. If it wasn't for Sachsgate we think Jonathon Ross would've had a good chance of getting on the shortlist, thanks to his many years in the business, but as it stands we reckon (and hope) that David Tennant and Louis Theroux have a much better chance.

Arguably the biggest surprise to ever come out of the awards ceremony was David Tennant's Doctor Who announcement last year, in which he declared he was quitting the show. The news was given by satellite amid loud cries from the audience as he accepted his gong for Outstanding Drama Performance for his role as The Eleventh Doctor. Fingers crossed similar resignations won't emerge this week.

The X Factor's Dermot O'Leary will host this year's event at the O2 on Wednesday, January 20. The ceremony will mark the NTA's fifteenth year and will be aired on ITV1. Who do you think should win? To vote and see the full list of nominees, click here.

It was a big shock to see Top Gear lose to Loose Women I would have rather have seen Come Dine with Me win as that is more entertaining then Loose Women. Shame the Inbetweeners never won an award as it's one of the funniest shows on TV personally I don't see what's so funny about Gavin & Stacey.
