DVD rumblings: Heroes, Cavemen

This Heroes drought has gone on long enough! Unfortunately, it will go on a little longer, as the third season of the hit drama won't get started again until the fall.

But fear not, Heroes fans. Universal Studios Home Entertainment today revealed that season two of Heroes will be released worldwide on Blu-ray and DVD on August 26. And if that weren't enough, season one of the show will get the high-definition treatment the same day and be released on Blu-ray as well. Universal did not mention what extras would be included in any of the editions.

Blu-ray DVDs, which require a Blu-ray player to play, offer crisper, clearer images, enhanced sound, and interactive menus. The format, created by Sony, beat out Toshiba's HD-DVD in the next-generation DVD wars when Toshiba announced it would no longer offer support for its product.

While Heroes was a no-brainer to release on DVD, other shows aren't exactly obvious choices. A clear example of this is ABC's Cavemen, which has (undeservedly) been the critics' whipping boy all season long.

Thankfully, the show looks like it will get a chance on DVD (even though it never really got a chance on television thanks to bigoted hatred). New York Magazine's Vulture blog staffers--who are unabashed Cavemen fans--did some digging on the inside and report that ABC is planning to release all 13 episodes, including the seven that haven't yet aired, on DVD.

Though Cavemen hasn't been officially canceled, prognosticators are betting that it will be soon.

Which DVD you will be in line for? (Cavemen! Cavemen! Cavemen!)
